Not dirty but not clean - where do they go?

Mumsnetters - does anyone here have clothes that they don't wash every time they wear them? (jeans, dresses, jumpers)

If so, do they go back in the wardrobe or do you have a designated place for them?

DH has a chair in the bedroom and literally everything he wears seems to end up there. I get annoyed because it makes the place look untidy but he insists they're not ready to be washed (jeans and jumpers, not dresses!) and have a few more wears left in them. AIBU to think they should go back in the wardrobe??

(or even worse, are we scutters because we don't wash every single item after every single wear?)

Not quite sure why you think I am any more serious than others who have said the same as me though. Is it because I reply to your specifically addressed to me points? So am, you know, about as invested as you? (Not at all in my case...)
Ah well. Nowt so funny as folk...

TinklyLittleLaugh · 11/01/2015 18:49

DH and I have valet stands (not posh, from IKEA). The kids have small crates, which at least contains the mess on the floor.

McSqueezy · 11/01/2015 18:51

I hang them somewhere, on a chair for example. There is no way I'm putting worn clothes back in my wardrobe. I think it's a filthy habit.

AWimbaWay · 11/01/2015 18:51

Euphemia My clothes don't not go back in the wardrobe because I think it's unhygienic, they don't go back in because I'm lazy and can't be arsed, so they stay on the floor with all my clean washing that I also haven't been arsed to tidy away yet.

PuppyMonkey · 11/01/2015 18:53

I have a sort of mini cupboard that I use (in addition to normal wardrobe) and stuff like jeans and jumpers go in there. Hidden behind a door, so not untidy. I will wear these items 2/3 times before washing.

Things like dresses I'll hang up in wardrobe again after one wear - but on the extreme right so I know they've been worn once and next time I'll prob put in wash.

Bodicea · 11/01/2015 18:53

Chairdrobe - well actually it a sort of an upholered stool type thingy in the bedroom. Every once in a while have a a sort of of the pile if it gets out of hand and half the stuff ends up in the wash anyway!!!!

LongDistanceLove · 11/01/2015 18:54

Over the door hooks, if not the floor.

CaptainJamesTKirk · 11/01/2015 18:54

I only rewear trousers and jeans. I fold them over the back of a chair. DH drives me mad by chucking them on the floor.

I think because you told me (very assertively) that my way made no sense. Clearly you were wrong as it makes perfect sense to me. It's just odd that a stranger on an internet forum feels it is OK to make such personal comments in this way. I find such lack of graciousness interesting and quite amusing.

Yes, that.

Definitely back in the wardrobe.

I would never, ever leave clothes on the floor.

Spiders crawl in them. ShockShock

forwarding · 11/01/2015 19:12

Wow you guys must have really messy houses!

MehsMum · 11/01/2015 19:19

I am a grub and rewear lots of clothes. I grew up in a house without a washing machine, which influenced my ideas of how often things need washing, plus I am not very sweaty.

I fold them and put them on a chair in the bedroom.

DH chucks his on a different chair in the bedroom.

My chair is much tidier than his...

Silvercatowner · 11/01/2015 19:22

I'm afraid I had to empty and fumigate my wardrobe because there was a nest of spiderlings living happily in a corner. That wasn't a good day. I never found mummy.

grannytomine · 11/01/2015 19:22

Cardibach, you obviously know my daughter. She produces more washing than the rest of us put together. I swear she can get through 14 tops, 7 cardis, 2 pairs of jeans, 5 pairs of trousers plus a couple of dress and heaven only knows how much underwear. I think she sometimes puts things back in the wash rather than put things away.

GreenShadow · 11/01/2015 19:27

Both DH and I have a chair in the bedroom and we both seem to have quite a pile of 'half worn' clothes on them. I wouldn't put worn items back in the wardrobe/drawer otherwise I forget if they've been worn before or not.

Things like trousers get worn for a few days at a time, then washed whereas I might rotate jumpers so a different one gets worn every day of the week, then start again.

ToysRLuv · 11/01/2015 19:31

Meh: We have the same system. I experimented with removing DH's chair so that he would be forced to have a smaller pile (or no pile at all, given that he has an additional pile in his office), but it didn't work. The pile stayed the same size, but it was on the floor instead. I wear tops a few (3 or 4) times, and trousers too. Socks and pants get changed every day.

simbacatlivesgain · 11/01/2015 19:31

Almost all of my clothes except underwear and pjs are dry dean. They are never dirty or smelly after 1 wear. They all go back on the dedicated hanging rail in my wardrobe (which is a giant cupboard)

KERALA1 · 11/01/2015 19:36

So some people wash woolly jumpers after one wear, despite having t shirt underneath? Weird!

hiccupgirl · 11/01/2015 19:43

I re wear most clothes except for the obvious ones like pants and socks that go in the wash daily. I have a stool at the bottom of the bed where clothes that need re wearing go. Things that need hanging up usually get put in a hanger and then hung on the outside of the wardrobe door. Tops gets worn 2-3 times and jeans usually 4-5 times...obviously if something looks dirty or is smelly then it gets washed straight away.

DH has a pile next to the bed. DS still mostly has clean clothes everyday because he's 5 and it's rare anything is clean enough. But if a top or jeans are ok then they go at the bottom of his bed.

Apatite1 · 11/01/2015 19:58

Ok so I agree not every single piece of clothing needs washing after every use. I can't leave it all on the floor, I'd be buried. But the bloody moths LOVE worn clothing. How to I prevent them eating every bit of my clothing?? At wits end, they always always come back and EAT THE WORN STUFF.

ChristmasMoaner1 · 11/01/2015 20:14

I'm really surprised at the number of you mentioning floordrobes.

A year or so ago I said I had a floordrobe and got so badly flamed, I had to name change!

Wormatthebottomofthegarden · 11/01/2015 20:14

DH has a floordrobe and I put things on a chair. Wearing jeans once is one of the silliest things I've ever heard.

Plateofcrumbs · 11/01/2015 20:32

I'd venture as far as to say most of my clothes don't get washed after each wear - jeans, trousers, skirts, jackets, jumpers, cardis, scarves, certain dresses. Only underwear, t-shirts/tops, leggings and some dresses. If I followed the not freshly laundered = not in wardrobe rule I'd only have about half a dozen things in my wardrobe. Baffled!

doesn't stop me operating a floordrobe but that's just laziness

HippyPottyMouth · 11/01/2015 21:23

DH is wetting himself at this. We had a discussion earlier about my small heap on top of the chest of drawers. I knew there was a reason I didn't put them back in the wardrobe. MOTHS! DH is doing his very best John Cleese at such a preposterous idea.
