Just popped to waitrose for some essential dinner ingredients (naturally), and got home to find the front door wide open... I know I shut it and locked it as the nail from the Christmas wreath attacked my gloves. Just done a tentative walk around the house armed with a schooling whip, and everything seems to be in order. WTF???

Might have bounced back though?

This happened to me a couple of years ago. I pulled the door towards me while I was in the porch. I secured the chain lock and then pulled the door closed. I heard the click. When I arrived home a bit later, the door was open but the chain was not allowing it to be wide open. The back door was still locked and no windows had been tampered with so no one got in through the back. As Hatespiders said, though, it's possible. I did change the Yale type lock.

I double check that the front door is securely in place now even after I've heard the click.

I wouldn't be too worried, OP, because the wind moves in mysterious ways.

But it's very windy isn't it? I'm pretty sure that's what happened if nothing has been disturbed

All is quiet on the western front here. We have made dinner, and tv is on. Have rung back 101 to say don't bother coming round, as we have done a thorough investigation of house and no signs of disturbance. Don't want to waste their time. But I am 110% sure door was double locked... I am going to sleep with my schooling whip next to my bed just in case! Just feeling a bit shivery and woo about the whole thing. Thanks for all your advice.
