To want DH to stop saying "right?" at the end of sentences?

GermanHouseCat · 10/01/2015 18:50

Over the last few weeks my DH has picked up a habit of saying "right?" at the end of sentences, eg "That house is up for sale, right?" sometimes in a questioning way but also as affirmation on something he already knows.

"The table for dinner is at 8, right?"

"We're flying out on the 18th, right?"

It is making me stabby. AIBU to stamp my feet every time he says it to try and get him to stop? It sounds like a vague Americanism, like starting sentences with "so".

Say 'left' really quickly every time??

fredfredgeorgejnr · 10/01/2015 18:56

YANBU, Right.

SuburbanRhonda · 10/01/2015 18:56

Could you point it out to him and say it sounds a bit daft?

Sunny67 · 10/01/2015 18:56

Not in the slightest BU! I thought it was just me on the SO at the beining of a sentence. SO makes me SO made I could slap them in the face with a kipper!

abigboydidit · 10/01/2015 18:58

Definitely not being unreasonable. Any time my Mum spends time with my Aunt, she starts ending every sentence with "yeah?". Does my head in.

Cauliflowersneeze1 · 10/01/2015 18:58

Pop an elastic band around his wrist and twang it hard every time he says it , right ??? Grin

GermanHouseCat · 10/01/2015 19:04

I have been pointing it out! He is trying to stop but somehow (in no time at all) it has become a habit and I wondered if constantly going "argh" every time he talks makes me a total cow.

Make him watch Mean Girls.

"I know, right?"

WitchWay · 10/01/2015 19:08

My DH has started saying OneTime instead of Once I've pointed it out repeatedly and he hates it but keeps doing it Confused

DameEdnasBridesmaid · 10/01/2015 19:09

Mine says 'does that make sense' all the feckin time. Not at the end of every sentence but enough to make my blood boil.

Of course it makes fecking sense I'm not a fecking idiot I can understand what you are saying grrr..

GermanHouseCat · 10/01/2015 19:10

I have to admit to a phase a few years ago of starting sentences with "so", during a time I was very good friends with an American expat. It took a while but I trained myself out of it.

DHs be like 'Dayum, Imma gonna say right just onetime, real quick?, Then Imma stop, right?'

CharlesRyder · 10/01/2015 19:14

DS's teacher is a Kiwi and does this, so now so does he. I might put him up for adoption.

ZingTheGreat · 10/01/2015 19:19

mmmmmkay

wickedlazy · 10/01/2015 19:35

My sister used to do this when we were kids.

I started saying left every time she said right (out of context). It took about 6 weeks, but 10+ years later she hasn't done it again. And now thanks me for getting her out of the habit, some of her old friends still do it, and she agrees it's bloody annoying.

treesntrees · 10/01/2015 20:29

I hate the use of ini in a sentence. Short for isn't it I think. Live in an area where Ts are dropped.

Andrewofgg · 10/01/2015 20:42

YANBU. Same with I'm like for I said.

My father was a teacher and once overheard some of his class taking the piss out of him - they did not know he was in earshot. And that was how he learnt that he was in the habit of saying or something at the end of his sentences and he stopped it at once!

emms1981 · 10/01/2015 22:22

My dh keeps saying guys, I will see you guys later ok to our boys. I always do the "hey u guys" from the Goonies when he says it

dalekanium · 10/01/2015 23:57

witch if I ever say one time, DH interrupts with 'in band camp'

Cured me of that one PDQ

squoosh · 10/01/2015 23:59

Best compressions yeah?

To get the hind milk yeah?

Discopanda · 11/01/2015 02:33

I used to work with somebody who added "dya know what I mean?" at the end of every sentence. One day I replied "no, I don't", look on her face was priceless.

HerRoyalNotness · 11/01/2015 02:37

Haha I'm having this convo with my DH right now, in regards the use of the word right. So infuriating!

Although "super" has slipped into my sentences frequently after living in Canada.

helzapoppin2 · 11/01/2015 07:54

Mine has started saying "Well done you!" I feel as if I'm being congratulated by a primary school teacher.
