I have invested for my future since age 16 (15-20% of wages) we were told at school that we should be doing that, by our economics teacher - thank god!! He was a grumpy old git- but wise...

"Invest for your future - you are the only one that cares about it, we will have run out of public funding and be going to Hell in a handcart by the time you orrible lot retire"

So providing I live to 55/60 I will be retiring then.

My mil worked as a nurse right up until the day before she was 66. She could easily have worked on.

My Dad works full time at the age of 67 in a factory but his job is mainly office based there now. He's planning to move to part time then retire at 68 but he's then planning to do voluntary work.

He's scared of retiring because he recently had Prostate Cancer (now recovering) & was off work for quite a while - he got very very bored & lonely I think so he actually went back to work earlier than he should have.

My Mum is 65 & works in office admin. Her boss is 65 too. My Mum would like to retire but wouldn't be able to afford to keep a car on her pension, and she does need her car.

Whereas I'm only 38 & I'm part time. I work in nursing & it's an exhausting & stressful (but also enjoyable) job. I was ill with Psychosis and now Occupational Health won't let me work full time. But I need to really because I don't earn enough.
