To be worried about the Ched Evans threads on here

Sorry but this does seem like a witchunt to me. Many of the posters (who have signed the petition) obviously have little knowledge of the case. At one point a poster said Sports Direct would withdraw sponsorship if Evans was NOT signed and immediately others were vowing to boycott. Laughable and shows the level of thought before clicking. Online justice and the court of public opinion, not for me. As for expecting football, an industry corrupt from the very top (Sepp Blatter) and inherently sexist, to show any moral stance, get real.

Babashka, I want him to realise that what he did actually was rape. Until that point I don't understand how he isn't a danger to society.

Toadinthehole · 08/01/2015 19:43

In my case, repentance rather than remorse is what I'm wanting to see. Not just "sorry" but a proper attempt to make amends and (by deeds rather than words) a distancing by himself from his actions.

A person who did that might think it inappropriate to continue as a professional footballer. There are other ways to make a living.

Toad I agree he has shown no remorse, he was very wrong to do what he did, I'm trying to uderstand what people want him to do now.

I wouldn't really care what he did if he understood why what he did is a crime - in that way, he could show decent and appropriate remorse and I'd see no issue with him getting on with his career. The fact that he does not makes him a danger to women and the idea that he would be feted in public while presenting such a threat sticks in my craw.

Also, his case has proven to be a lightning rod for the many, many men who agree with him. If he understand the nature of his crime, he'd probably be inclined to withdraw from public life on that basis alone.

myfallingstar · 08/01/2015 19:47

And I now here the villagers have threatened to RAPE the chid exc daughter nice Hmm

Blistory · 08/01/2015 19:48

Posted this on the other thread but repeating here as it ties in nicely with suspicions that his apology is not heartfelt. Incidentally this was on his website but appears to have vanished.

Statement from Ched Regarding Oldham Athletic

It is with great sadness that today I have withdrawn from talks with Oldham Athletic. I would like to thank the Club, and those who have supported me in my lawful quest to find work. I apologise to the clubs supporters, sponsors and all those effected by the last 72 hours.
Sadly the ‘mob rule’ tactics employed by the more radical elements of our society and the constant media reporting has had the desired influence on some sponsors and the club would face significant financial pressure if I joined them. The most significant issue for me was that owing to the threat of funding opportunities being withdrawn which may jeopardise the building of Oldhams new stand it would mean that workers would lose their jobs and others would be put at risk - that would simply not be fair.

Upon legal advice, I chose not to discuss the events in question. My silence has been misinterpreted as arrogance and I would like to state that this could not be further from the truth.
I do remain limited at present by what I can say due to the ongoing application to the Criminal Cases Review Commission and whilst I continue to maintain my innocence, I wish to make it clear that I wholeheartedly apologise for the effect that that night in Rhyl has had on many people, especially the woman concerned.

Finally, it has been claimed that those using social media in an abusive and vindictive way towards this woman are supporters of mine. I wish to make it clear that these people are not my supporters and I condemn their actions entirely and will continue to do so.

He has a painting & decorating qualification. Perhaps- 'Interiors by Chetwyn'? Plenty of his rich footballer friends who might want a property makeover.

merrymouse · 08/01/2015 19:54

Any profession that doesn't involve him being supported by 1000s of people on a regular basis as part of the job description would be fine with me.

TheWordFactory · 08/01/2015 19:56

The 'mob rule' seems to be Ched speak for public opinion.

Basically, a section of the public feel very strongly that they would not wish to buy shit from any business which financially supports a man who raped a drunken nineteen year old and shows no remorse.

Since said businesses care more about selling shit to the public than supporting said rapist, he doesn't get the job.

merrymouse · 08/01/2015 19:57

And I'd like him to take the website down and follow the correct legal processes if he wants the case to be reviewed.

Toadinthehole · 08/01/2015 19:57

His defence is that the victim, although very drunk, was not too drunk to have consented. If this was true (and the jury didn't) he'd be innocent of rape.

The point to note is that even if what he claims is true, he behaved extremely poorly. He (and a lot of other people) totally fail to see this.

merrymouse · 08/01/2015 19:59

And I'd also like him to go on a course to learn exactly what he did wrong.

merrymouse · 08/01/2015 20:01

Agree toad even if he wasn't guilty of rape, his behaviour fell well below the standard that should be expected of a professional sports person.

TheWordFactory · 08/01/2015 20:02

CE states that the victim was not drunk.

Yet he had never seen her stood up. Or speaking.

He saw her once when he stepped over her in a kebab shop (she was lying on the floor) and later when he let himself in a locked hotel room and she was lying on the bed having sex with his mate.

From this he gleaned she wasn't drunk!

Blistory · 08/01/2015 20:02

He knew she was drunk. His own website refers to him stepping over her as she had fallen on the ground at a kebab shop.

Of course, it lays the blame for the fall on her high heeled wedges and not her intoxication. Mainly, I suspect, because it suits his narrative more.

RandomNPC · 08/01/2015 20:02

Myfallingstar WTF are you talking about? What Villagers? 'chid exc'?

Blistory · 08/01/2015 20:03

X post with Word

AnyFucker · 08/01/2015 20:11

who are "the villagers" ? Confused

TheWordFactory · 08/01/2015 20:18

Blistory indeed.

But you see the jury thought she was drunk.

Given how much she had drunk (two measures of wine, eight of vodka, and one of Sambuca), given how she fell over in the kebab shop, left her bag outside the shop, urinated in a doorway and got into a taxi with a complete stranger.

And of course the fact that the receptionist of the hotel said she was 'very drunk' and the fact that on his way out Ched's mate told the receptionsist to keep an eye out for her because she was 'sick'.

But no, she wasn't drunk. Not at all.

Jessica85 · 08/01/2015 20:30

Word, one of the key things to me is that she was so intoxicated that she urinated in her sleep. I am not surprised at all that the jury felt she was too drunk to consent.

AnyFucker · 08/01/2015 20:37

She fell onto the ground in the kebab shop.

She left her handbag behind

She pissed on herself

Those things are only done by very, very drunk people (and the handbag one, very much so for women). People too drunk to consent to sex.

WeirdCatLady · 08/01/2015 20:39

I've never been part of a mob before.

Here was I thinking that I was being a decent, respectful, law-abiding citizen using a petition and social media to speak up for family values and make a stand against violent sexual crime.

But then, I'm also the kind of person who would never allow anyone who 'cheated on' my daughter to ever again enter my house.

DirtyBlonde · 08/01/2015 20:40

"Word, one of the key things to me is that she was so intoxicated that she urinated in her sleep."

Did they establish that the urine was hers? (I've not read detailed versions of the evidence)

clam · 08/01/2015 20:40

"She had fallen to the ground and he stepped over her?"

He just sounds better and better.

Pagwatch · 08/01/2015 20:40

My FallingStar is quite rightly horrified at the idea of a woman being threatened with RAPE

Unfortunately has less of a problem with actual rape..
