To think this delivery was too early

We had a delivery scheduled for today. Any time. Large delivery so someone needed to be in.

The driver rang at 6.40 this morning to say he would be here at 7 am. And he was. Is it just me or is this all ridiculously early? I was up as I have a 8 week old baby but if I'd have been at work I would have been asleep when he rang.

The guy was really nice and brought everything just inside the door although he said he wasn't supposed to go inside customers houses. So I'm loathe to complain about the time as he did more than he was supposed to.

AIBU to think this was all a bit early?

I'm always happy to take early delivery.

I ordered something from AO a few months ago for a buy to let property we have which was still unoccupied. I was literally woken at 6am by a text saying they'd be there between 7.30 and 8.30. I jumped up and dashed out. I sat waiting in an empty house until 11.30. The driver had no idea why I'd been given that time.I didn't complain because shit happens. Of course if dh hadn't brought a Costa coffee fix it might have been a different story!
After a couple of serious problems in my close family in the last couple of years I have lived by the motto 'don't sweat the small stuff'.

Giles, you asked who the company was. Waltons Garden Buildings if you are in the market for a playhouse for your DC or shed!

I have a Curry's delivery scheduled for next Sunday. I'll be perfectly happy if they call at 6.40 to deliver at 7.

I've had a couple of early deliveries over the years and I have found they usually phone before hand to give you warning. Probably because they are sick of turning up to people's houses and they are still in their beds.
I'd watch the DVD's anyway. The weather is horrible here. I am waiting for the plumber. It could be anytime between now and 6. I hate not knowing when he's going to be here.

If you're up that early then great if you're NOT up that early but the doorbell wakes you or doesn't wake you then you either miss the delivery and wait in all day or you get woken up.

For delivery drivers these early times are the norm (and late times too) and it's lucky he forewarned you and helped you.

If we're going to be out (live in shared maisonette so 2 bells) and it's not a heavy item (Currys etc) we always leave a note on our outer sliding door if both flats out so they can deliver to neighbours and we reciprocate.

Other than an emergency or pre-arranged call, a 6.40 phone call is always too early. An arrival time of 7 is just slightly ridiculous.

Just love all these "the world isn't 9-5 you know" replies. What time would people actually deem too early?!

I wouldn't complain, but I would feedback.

BoomBoomsCousin · 07/01/2015 11:42

I think there's no harm in including feedback that you find 7 am too early for deliveries. The company can consider that along with the feedback from customers who love deliveries in time for them to get to work. It doesn't mean you think they are awful, you're just letting them know what works for you best. Something good comapnies are eagre to be aware of. It might encourage a bookable time slot system or something down the line.

Icimoi · 07/01/2015 11:59

I think it would be fair enough to suggest to them that if they are going to deliver before 8 a.m. they should let you know the day before.

I had a grocery delivery for the evening a couple of weeks ago and he turned up an hour early. The driver did ask if it was convenient or if I wanted him to wait in his van until my delivery time Grin I saw it as a bonus as the earlier delivery slot was more expensive than what I had paid.
