To be annoyed that dd's Jack Wills Pyjamas shrank on washing?

Dd1, asked for a pair of navy dotted Jack Wills Hawksley Pyjamas for Christmas which I bought for her. She was thrilled and wore them last week. Yesterday she put them on after DH had washed them & they have shrunk. She has not grown in the last few days or put on masses of weight but they are now too tight. As they have been washed Jack Wills take no responsibility for them.

AIBU to be annoyed and want to warn other people to be incredibly careful washing Jack Wills Pyjamas as they are prone to shrinking and they won't refund or offer any credit?

I think if you washed them following the label instructions you should complain again to Jack Wills, they should refund you. If you didn't, very annoying but think you have to suck it up.

We did - they went in a dark wash which we do at a cool temp. I think I need to go into the shop and be clear & audible rather than just email them. I'm used to John Lewis, M&S (& dare I say Boden) levels of service rather than simply 'Go away, tough luck'.

To add insult to injury the ticker at the top of MN is now showing the pyjamas at the sale price which is £30 less than I paid. Have I got 'sucker' written on my forehead?

Definitely take them back to the shop for a refund. They're obviously total crap. Have you still got the receipt?

I am willing to accept I was unreasonable to buy such expensive pyjamas for a teenager's Christmas present.

Who would have thought Jack Wills Pyjamas shrank?

Yes, definitely go back and complain.

They told me the same thing with a hoodie of DD's that had shrunk on my 'quick and cool' cycle. The instructions said 30 deg, but they refused to take responsibility for the item on the basis that it hadn't been washed as per their instructions.

I'd ordered it online, and got nowhere via email so it back to the shop where they refunded me without any fuss

Shout "Sale of Goods Act... Not fit for purpose... refund" at them.

I bought some jim hams from H&M and they have shrunk too. Luckily for me I'm tiny so it makes no difference. JW's things are expensive though so I'm very sorry Sad

LadySybil, SillyPops, Stinkle, Gunpowder I think you are all right & I will have to go & do battle in store. What a pity her Jack Wills pyjamas shrank! I could really do without going to one of their shops, I bought them online to save hassle.

I had the same happen to some mens pyjamas from Debenhams once - they exchanged them in store without a problem.

Hope you get a refund.

I'm now sure they you seek so shocked that they have shrunk based on their label? Any clothes can shrink. Go instore and complain.

Jack Wills is overpriced tat. I don't know why anyone in their right mind buys it. I certainly don't know why anyone in their right mind buys their ridiculously priced pyjamas, but as you did Op and followed the washing instructions, YANBU in expecting them not to shrink,

MrsTawdry I think I will set up a one woman public awareness campaign "Jack Wills Pyjamas shrink" could be a good user name, and if I keep tweeting about my disappointment they might try & improve their customer service.

i always take things back that shrink in the wash, as i am very particular first wash, as well as things that run.

As PPs have observed, the more expensive the item, the worse it performs during washing and drying I find. I can wash and tumble dry cheap Primark items no problem but named stuff seems to need to be washed in tepid angel's tears and dried in the breeze of a kitten's tail or it shrivels up and fades.

Did your DH tumble dry the pjs OP? Because that's more problematic than the washing process, in my experience.

I always insist on a refund in these circumstances even when I've cocked up and not actually followed the washing instructions and definitely would if I'd paid £60 for pjs! Shock
