The television ones!

What adverts get you riled and why?

My top 3 are:

1. toilet roll!
Who is NOT buying this stuff, really? I know the bog roll defenders will say the companies are just promoting their own brands, but don't we just buy the best brand on offer?

2. Watch this fab new show...
...on a different channel, that you don't get. I have been caught out on this one sooo many times of an evening Angry

3. The 'I use this and it is sooo great'
I never believe any of the actors/actresses because they always look so wooden, bored, falsely gleeful or just plain crazy. Does anyone believe them?

Now go mn, give me your own hates!!!

The compensation ad where the man gets his cheque and bounds along the pavement with seemingly nothing wrong with him. Yet apparently has been crippled by an accident! Boils my piss every time.

The stupid gambling adverts with Barbara Windsor in it (jackpot joy?) and her ridiculous outfit and screechy voice.

Really cringeworthy, low-budget, tacky ads (Madbid.com one, or the Cillit Bang ones) do my head in.

Stupid perfume ads (though I like some of the more tasteful ones!) Love the J'adore Dior one where she's climbing that ropy thing, hate the Blue de Chanel one with the brain-dead voiceover 'do you want her to rephrase the question'. NO JUST GO AWAY

rumbleinthrjungle · 04/01/2015 22:22

Sad donkeys, sad dogs, sad children, all grey-screened with tragic music, often one straight after the other

Anything involving Barbara Windsor cackling

Anything that anthropormophises food, germs, body hair... hairs bidding a distraught goodbye to each other? WTF? It's supposed to encourage spending money on products, not bloody therapy for the trauma. Angry

Aibuaddict · 04/01/2015 22:24

Feckin Paul Whitehouse's various and hammy outings for Aviva. I think the hippy at Glastonbury was a low point for me.

YY to wowcher and BOGOF man.

Also, the Lynx adverts. Are you kidding me?! No overpowering women with that noxious gas will not make pimply youths irresistible to the opposite sex. The smell makes me want to gag.

lauralouise8
"the kindred ad-hating spirits"

That sounds about right to me! Grin

Rumble Grin at cackling.

StevieWonderWoman · 04/01/2015 22:49

The Mercats need to do one now.
Meercat? Merecat?
I don't even care how to spell it at this precise moment. All I know is that they piss me right off.

ToysRLuv · 04/01/2015 22:56

All the stupid wrinkle cream ones. In one of them it actually says: "Based on latest dna science". Hmm, specific... Grin

Ads for Sky shows on a freeview channel.

All ads for ambulance chasers, bingo, online casinos, payday loans, etc.

EarSlaps · 04/01/2015 22:58

I hate any ones for gambling- I'd ban them if I could. Same for bloody pay day loans etc.

My DSs love the Cilit Bang adverts, one time I walked down the stairs and heard ds1 say to ds2 "...so I'm Barry Scott and you're the dirt...". I also remember being asked if we had the diamond standard (Finish tablets). Really must wean them off Nick Jr and back onto CBeebies. Smile

ToysRLuv · 04/01/2015 22:58

Oh god, yes, any charity adverts with sad eyed animals/children and Kate Bush's This Woman's Work playing in it.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/01/2015 23:00

Gala. Fucking. La la.

If they turned up on my doorstep, I would beat every one of them to death with a frying pan.

MrsCosmopifairylight · 04/01/2015 23:26

Grr. We have ITV on at the mo as DH is watching 'Hot Fuzz'. Getting annoyed by Activia which implies that only women have problems with 'intestinal transit'. So it helps you shit, right?
And then the one for 'Part Spaceship, Part Cruiseship'. Nope, all cruise ship, albeit a poncey one.
And the one for Warburtons sandwich thins.

GooodMythicalMorning · 04/01/2015 23:33

That hotel breaks one with the lady always saying "come along Colin!" Grr

Krytes42 · 04/01/2015 23:35

Ads for household products and food which feature an impossibly incompetent dad and a mom smilingly cleaning up after both husband and children. So insulting to both genders.

Frizzcat · 05/01/2015 00:38

Why has no one mentioned the Lorraine Kelly ad? The JD Williams clothes one, I can't even articulate how angry it makes me feel. So here's a link

Frizzcat · 05/01/2015 00:38

Also what was that advert, with the man prancing round the house talking to a call centre while his wife films him. He then quite calmly and cheerfully confirms he's borrowing £25k. Is it Ocean or Picture?

Gawjushun · 05/01/2015 01:48

"If you choose to move on from breastfeeding..."

If? Are you planning on giving bitty until they turn 30? I think it's the same shitty ad that implies if you buy that formula your child will become a ballet dancer or architect. It plays up to all the worst parental hysteria and nonsense.

LithaR · 05/01/2015 02:43

I loathe the tena one, she's a spiteful sod.

Primadonnagirl · 05/01/2015 03:02

I actually complained about the hair dye ones..esp the Davina Garnier ones...where it is so obviously digitally enhanced but Advertising standards said it wasn't misleading....couldn't be arsed to fight it but I cannot believe how that isn't bloody misleading

nunkspugget · 05/01/2015 06:17

Cat food adverts, with women dancing sexily with their cats....then feeding it a tiny tin of impossibly neat food. In real life you yell at the cat for nearly tripping you up before angrily twisting a fork in a tin of ugly meat for the meowing bully at you feet.

Aciderwouldbenice · 05/01/2015 06:36

The tena one where she has her dress on the wrong way round, Lordy I hate that advert and the patronising twirl of the finger she gives the other woman and the way she flicks her necklace back- why does that even make it better in anyway?

FamiliesShareGerms · 05/01/2015 07:06

Any cosmetics ones with pseudo science ("87% more shiny") or low surveys ("42 out of 64 people surveyed agreed")

I don't understand how this is even allowed

JustAnotherControlFreak · 05/01/2015 12:16

e-cigarette ads, they're not sexy. Stop it!

sashh · 05/01/2015 13:59

All the holiday ads where the females are in bikinis and the males in baggy shorts, not just the adults but the children too.

www.youtube.com/user/ThomsonHols

www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_profilepage&v=J8vKH8aamOg - OK the little girl in this is not in a bikini but the ads they have on programmes they sponsor are another matter

NewYearNewBrie · 05/01/2015 14:02

"ga la la, la, ga la la la, hey hey hey, bingoooo"
Angry
gives me the rage.
