This was shared in a FB group I'm in; personally I think it's reinforcing tired stereotypes.

Hatespiders · 02/01/2015 20:51

Well to be fair to their campaign, the other ad along the same lines had a female scientist and a male 'personality' making a hash of the lab test. I think it was merely to show that cancer will be conquered by science not celebrity input (or something!)

AnnieLobeseder · 02/01/2015 20:53

YANBU, there is so much wrong there I don't even know where to start. But with the way MN is going this week no doubt there will be many, many cries of "oversensitive" coming along any second now.

Weathergames · 02/01/2015 20:55

Gah I dunno but it's not as annoying as the "drive like a girl" ad campaign Angry

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 02/01/2015 20:56

Am I feeling dense, what is sexist?; he's doing the jabs and she's holding the test tubes ?

I don't understand it. Is this part of a wider campaign? So there's a man doing science in a lab coat and a woman in a pinny watching and helping him with oven gloves on. And doughnuts on the table. What does it mean? I don't get it.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 02/01/2015 21:10

Is it that she's wearing pink? Derek

Tinks42 · 02/01/2015 21:17

Dont get it either, what's sexist about it?

Now, the "drive like a girl" thing makes me stabby. That IS sexist.

Willferrellisactuallykindahot · 02/01/2015 21:21

Isn't there another ad in this campaign with Joey Essex and a female scientist?

Hatespiders · 02/01/2015 21:25

The other one was Joey Essex and a lady scientist. In this one, it's the woman who's someone on TV, with a male science researcher. Is she someone from a cooking programme perhaps? The message is that scientists in their labs and non- scientists from other walks of life will beat cancer by joining forces (fundraising and lab work)

thatstoast · 02/01/2015 21:26

Is the point that the man is the scientist and the woman is doing a bake sale to fundraise? That's how I'm reading the advert.

I wouldn't automatically assume it's sexist but a female scientist would be good to see.

Tinks42 · 02/01/2015 21:27

I sort of get it (after looking a few times and at a push)

She's wearing pink? with oven gloves and an apron in the same colour, is could that a derogatory thing?

He looks a bit like a "mad" scientist, so if i was a scientist I might take offence possibly.... ummmm not really.

Tinks42 · 02/01/2015 21:28

is/could? I meant to take one those out Grin

CaffeLatteIceCream · 02/01/2015 21:29

It's not fucking "sexist" and I despair at any fool so lost in their bizarre take on feminism that they think it is.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 02/01/2015 21:34

Who is she? , an Actress?

bigbluestars · 02/01/2015 21:35

THere are a series of posters for this campaign though, near me is one of a female scientist and a man dressed as a chicken.

OmnipotentQueenOfTheUniverse · 02/01/2015 21:35

Is she a famous baker then? That would make sense. I don't recognise her though.

Tinks42 · 02/01/2015 21:37

Ive never seen her before to be honest. She's not hugely famous? is she?

unclerory · 02/01/2015 21:40

The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfGf90ixcTo Joey Essex] ad. Since they have done two different ads I think it's fine.

unclerory · 02/01/2015 21:42

Link fail Blush

steff13 · 02/01/2015 21:43

who is she? I didn't realize she was famous. I thought it was supposed to insinuate that by cooking cupcakes you were helping find a cure for cancer. Just not sure why the person cooking the cupcakes has to be a woman and the scientist a man.
