All these horse boxes on the roads. What's with this? I thought the point of a horse was that you ride on it.

I mean, really?

yeah and whats with all those lazy feckers with cycle racks? get on yer bike Grin

whitesandstorm · 03/01/2015 11:31

My only grievance is with some horse riders who think it's quite acceptable to leave a pile of steaming shit on the pavement.

usefully · 03/01/2015 13:20

What do you suggest they do with it, white?

whitesandstorm · 03/01/2015 15:25

I suggest they get off the horse and shovel into a bag, otherwise put a nappy on the horse like they have to with landau horses at the seaside. Are you implying its acceptable usefully?

usefully · 03/01/2015 15:34

Hahaha that's a good one! I nearly took you seriously there for a minute GrinGrin

sashh · 03/01/2015 15:42

I supose it would make the odds at races more interesting.

As for the olympics - just how do you ride a horse to Rio from Europe?

JennyBlueWren · 03/01/2015 16:01

YANBU and humans should walk everywhere too.

Honeydragon · 03/01/2015 16:06

What do we do about sea crossings? Can they go as pedestrians on boats? They won't be allowed the seats with extra leg room on planes as their hooves won't be deemed competent to open the emergency exit in the event of a crash. Those seats are discrimatry in favour of the ooposeably thumbed.

CallMeExhausted · 03/01/2015 17:21

It is the horses flying from place to place that really gets my hackles up.

Do you even know how few of them are toilet trained?

Ifyourawizardwhydouwearglasses · 03/01/2015 17:48

I ride a tandem with my horse.

whitesandstorm · 03/01/2015 17:54

I was being serious. Why should other people including children who play on pavements have to face big piles of horse shit. They should be banned from pavements and use the road.

FatJerseyPostXmasSpud · 03/01/2015 17:57

I don't know, when you bring them to Jersey maybe they can sit in the first class lounge, getting served carrotts and haylage...

IrianofWay · 03/01/2015 18:40

I live in a small town and I can honestly say horse shit isn't a bit problem. Even in the local villages there doesn't seem to be a great deal and we live in quite a horsey area. Is it rampant in cities perhaps?

Stillyummy · 03/01/2015 18:45

" They should be banned from pavements and use the road." They are.

Stillyummy · 03/01/2015 18:50

But, you wouldn't begrudge them walking on the pavement to avoid a hazard.

TeenagersDriveMeMad · 03/01/2015 18:53

Oh yes, let me just ride my horse down the M4 for 120 miles so that we can get to our nearest BE event. That'd go really well.

We get shouted at/attacked for riding on the road, and then slated for putting the horse in a box to drive them to somewhere that means we don't have to ride on the road.

Don't like it? Why don't you try campaigning to your council for more bridlepaths? As the transport of horses is clearly so important to you Angry.

(Yes, I've probably missed the point of this thread but after another speeding cunt of a driver missing my horse and I by less than half a foot I've rather lost my sense of humor).

Leela5 · 03/01/2015 20:15

I've never seen horse shit on a pavement. Horses aren't allowed on pavements.

I live in a very horsey area and I've never known anyone actually give a shit (pardon the pun) about horse shit on the road. It's naturally biodegradable and harmless, unlike carnivore crap.

If you ride you're damned if you so and damned if you don't. Fact is that bridleways are disappearing fast and forcing riders to have to take their chances riding on roads. Believe me we'd rather not!

YABU to turn this thread into another having a go at horse riders who have no choice but to ride on roads.

Fact is - not all of us can afford luxury of a horse box to take our horses somewhere safe to ride. But even if we do then it seems we're upsetting people, as per the OP.

:(

usefully · 03/01/2015 20:55

white no I'm sorry, I just can't take you seriously Grin

whitesandstorm · 03/01/2015 23:13

Sometimes when we hear things we know to be true we bury our heads in the sand. Horses aren't allowed on pavements. Neither are bikes but it still happens. Both hazardous in different ways.

ExitPursuedByABear · 03/01/2015 23:20

There was a thread a few years ago where a poster was outraged by a horse shitting on the road outside her house. I think she ran after it and scared the horse.

It was a great thread.

whitesandstorm · 03/01/2015 23:34

Btw I love horses.
