All these horse boxes on the roads. What's with this? I thought the point of a horse was that you ride on it.

I mean, really?

Horses are lazy feckers. I thought everyone knew this.

HeraldAngelSinging · 02/01/2015 20:22

Car transporters! When delivering, they clog up main roads by parking at the side on double yellow lines. When car showrooms are built, they should allow enough land for the car transporter to enter the property and turn round in there - not park at the side of the road outside after churning up the grass verge.

Thanks to everyone who treated this seriously and replied to it. I feel a bit guilty now...Wink

As long as they're not using the parent and child spaces in Tesco I couldn't care less.

thecatfromjapan · 02/01/2015 20:26

Don't feel guilty: I needed some humour today.Smile

By the way, it was my 'phone that put the rogue apostrophe in the possessive 'its' (and it tried to do it again just now .... but I was on to it, oh yes).

wanderings · 02/01/2015 20:26

You do realise that horses can't move as fast as cars, even when galloping?

It's true that horses were once (i.e. many decades or centuries ago) the main mode of transport, when "motor cars" were the preserve of the very wealthy and one well-known toad, but things have moved on, and now our lifestyles mean we need to travel quickly by road.

CatCushion · 02/01/2015 20:30

Wow, I stand corrected! Grin I honestly thought that horses and riders were not allowed on duel carriageways and most roads with national speed limit. I must have been getting mixed up with footpaths, and then just got it in my head that it would follow that they'd be in danger on fast roads.

thecatfromjapan · 02/01/2015 20:30

The way mn is going at the moment, you'll probably get a slapped wrist for starting a goady thread, for trolling, or trying to be funny in a built-up area without having placed the requisite 'light-hearted' warning sign in a prominent position.Hmm

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 02/01/2015 20:34

not really an option to ride all 4 there
Well now you are just being lazy Fabulous46

Ride Horse A, lead B. Leave A at event (give him some crisps and your iPad) ride B home. Collect C. Leave B at event, (more crisps) ride C home, collect D ...........

Or re-enact the Ben Hur chariot scene (I cannot watch that, he's pulling the reins and using the whip. I know they're actor horses 'n' all...) Sad

usefully · 02/01/2015 20:35

My mil thinks it cruel to make horses stand in horse boxes.

She thinks they should be made to lie down.... Wink

nocoolnamesleft · 02/01/2015 20:36

I once saw a horse on a motorway (M6). Scared the living crap out of us...though clearly not as scared as the poor animal galloping along the carriageway. Fortunately help arrived before disaster struck. Many years ago...but I think the coppers had the wit to arrive without sirens blaring!

Fabulous46 · 02/01/2015 20:40

Ha ha ha if only I had a chariot. They're that knackered by the time I get them back in the lorry they'd lie down and sleep if they could on the way home if they could.

Leela5 · 02/01/2015 20:44

Moving yards
Events
Beach rides
Joy riding/ boy horse racers (ok that one's a joke)

Lots of reasons :)

My horses old owner once suggested we lead the horses across a motorway. Strangely I didn't fancy that so I paid for a horse box to take us instead...

Goldmandra · 02/01/2015 20:46

to think that horses should just walk everywhere?

That would be rather boring. What about trotting, cantering and galloping?

Mine does have a Nice bed she could lie on in the trailer ( shredded tea bag anyone) but cruelly I tie her up, so she can't lie down, or turn round to see if there is anything interesting following us Grin

usefully · 02/01/2015 21:05

Horses knees lock, so standing up doesn't make their legs tired Smile

Leela5 · 02/01/2015 21:19

You could hook up a stereo - music ideas:

Pulled apart by horses
Chariots of fire
Wild horses

Wouldn't Racing Stripes or something be better for the way there? A more uplifting film to motivate top performance on arrival?

IrianofWay · 02/01/2015 21:31

DD looks after miniature horses every saturday. They go for a walk on a lead rein along with with the owner's german shepherd.

roundrobinhell · 02/01/2015 21:42

Horses used to be able to travel by train. There is a stately home near us which was a bit of a Society hotspot in the 20s and 30s - apparently guests used to bring their horses on the train when they visited for the weekend (and probably left their children at home with the nanny).
