To ask you if your poo ever goes up the wrong way?

ScaryHairyFairy · 01/01/2015 23:18

Seriously. This happens occasionally since I was small. Say, once every 2/3 years. I think it's one of those things that happens to everyone at least a few times in their life.

It hurts like hell. Like giving birth but I never knew that when I was a kid. I had it happen to me today and it was excruciating pain for about 3 mins I had to breathe like I was having contractions. It's the first time it's happened in about 4 years.

What's the scientific reason for it?

(I'm not a poo troll or anything, just want to know if it's one of those human bodily functions that are strange and happen to everyone).

I can't explain the feeling. It just feels like it's going back up and towards my tail bone. Like there's space it goes and lodges in instead of coming out properly. It's probably constipation. Thanks all!

Ah, javelin arse. Yes, it's excruciating.

LightNC · 01/01/2015 23:28

Could it be proctalgia fugax? Hurts a lot.

She means that when her poo is coming out the muscles don't do the job and it goes back in again.

I believe it can be considered to be a form of bowel dysautonomy, and is not unusual with people who also get nauseous dizzy and shock like symptoms when they have a shit

VivaLeBeaver · 01/01/2015 23:30

I get the javelin up the bum pain but it doesn't seem associated with constipation. I won't be trying to poo when it comes on. Can just be walking about and next thing I'm nearly screaming in agony. Don't feel that I need a poo ANd when I do next go im not constipated. Have noticed sometimes that farting seems to relieve the pain. Grin

NeedsAsockamnesty · 01/01/2015 23:30

Sorry that should start "I think she means"

Concordial · 01/01/2015 23:30

Sounds like it could be something to do with constipation or your lower bowel/ rectal muscles going into spasm when you bear down.
It sounds bloody painful and not something I've heard of before.

Is it similar to javelin arse?

LucyBabs · 01/01/2015 23:31

Do you meant the shooting pain up your bum? I get it when I have my period. Its definitely worse than childbirth!

farendofafart · 01/01/2015 23:32

I think I know what you are on about, although I wouldn't have described it as 'up the wrong way'.

Sometimes (like maybe once every couple of years) I feel like a poo is coming out sideways instead of on its end and it is excruciating. It feels similar to giving birth and I do the breathing thing too, just like contractions. Occasionally, whilst in the middle of a poo like this, I feel like it's slipping back up because I just don't have the space to pass it.

When I look at these poos in the toilet afterwards, they are invariably massive. Like "how the hell did I actually pass THAT" sort of massive.

Can't believe you just made me share all that OP Blush

LucyBabs · 01/01/2015 23:32

I didn't know it had a name! Javelin are yes that's it!

RudeBarbandCustard · 01/01/2015 23:33

I get Javelin arse when I have my period which gives me the shits. Definitely the opposite of constipation, it just feels like everything is inflamed inside my pelvis and just passing a normal poo makes me cry with pain.

If I hold in a poo during this time, it is excruciatingly painful. I wonder if that's what you're describing OP?

RudeBarbandCustard · 01/01/2015 23:34

Oh LucyBabs X posted - strangely good to hear I'm not the only one!

Fcukfifa · 01/01/2015 23:36

Sometimes I know I'm going to have a big poo as when it's coming down I get the worst pain ever in my tummy just before a push it out. Like it's stretching my insides?

The sweet sweet relief when it's out though!

Have never experienced javelin arse though, thank god

ScaryHairyFairy · 01/01/2015 23:36

I don't think it's javelin arse. I get that too sometimes and more often than this.

The reason why I asked is because today it happened whilst I was in bed and not on the loo. No urge to go which makes me think it's a muscle thing. Or a wind thing.

Thanks to whoever posted that link. I don't think it's either tbh. This is different.

I think you should see your gp. It sounds like an extreme case of constipation. i hope you feel better soon.

abigamarone · 01/01/2015 23:40

Is this one of those 'reverse' threads?

(sorry)

Icantstopeatinglol · 01/01/2015 23:40

Omg, javelin arse! I'm not alone!!
I get this when I go to sit down sometimes. Usually when I've been constipated and im on my period.
Sorry op, not sure on the poop going the wrong way up? Hope it calms down tho.

FoodPorn · 01/01/2015 23:40

I don't get the "going-back-up" feeling but I do get the excrutiating pain. I think it is endometriosis of the rectovaginal septum... that's my Dr. Google diagnosis Blush. Going to doctor soon to discuss.

ScaryHairyFairy · 01/01/2015 23:42

Ah thanks ReallyTired, but I am fine. The pain lasts for 3mins max and then dies away and doesn't occur for another few years. I do get anal fissures and piles but that's all due to having babies. I've been getting this pain since childhood so can't blame it on piles or childbirth injuries.

OP posts:
mymatemax · 01/01/2015 23:45

scaryhairy I think I may get it but not when having a poo but every so often I get a really bad pain, it will wake me. Its like a muscle spasm or contraction. Sometimes it can last a couple of minutes, sometimes half an hour. Warmth helps it a bit, but usually it just goes on its own.

SunshineAndShadows · 01/01/2015 23:48

I wonder if you might have a rectal diverticulum that could be causing your discomfort. I could be present from an early age. Best to get checked out
www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Diverticular-disease-and-diverticulitis/Pages/Introduction.aspx

watchingthedetectives · 01/01/2015 23:48

You need to get your bowels opening regularly - maybe use something like movicol which is very safe. That should reduce the fissures developing and limit the effects of the piles. If you don't want to take something regularly it maybe worthwhile getting referred for biofeedback which helps retrain the muscles and means you can evacuate properly.

The fissures, piles and this intermittent symptom are all likely to be a result of the same thing - made worse by childbirth

Good luck OP

Sacharissa · 01/01/2015 23:50

Since this thread is here can I ask if anyone else gets weird cold flushes when pooing sometimes? Blush

Like the OP I often get times when it's agony to go but I also get these horrible cold flushes. My entire body breaks out in goose bumps, I can even feel them on my face! But it's so painful - like my bone marrow has turned to ice. Makes me feel sick and shaky.
