Not to want to eat Xmas day leftovers today?

AmserGwin · 28/12/2014 18:47

Went to my mums for lunch, all very nice. She had some trifle and Black Forest Gateau left over from Xmas day, I politely declined. I would eat it 1 or maybe 2 days later but no more. Was I BU? How long do you keep and then eat leftovers? Or does it depend what it is? Confused

Yes. You're being very silly indeed

Sirzy · 28/12/2014 18:50

Depends what it is but I wouldn't have any problem with finishing off cakes and things today

ssd · 28/12/2014 18:50

YOU SOUND HARD WORK OP

AmserGwin · 28/12/2014 18:50

So how long would you keep it for? Genuine question

skylark2 · 28/12/2014 18:51

Provided it's been refrigerated I can't see why it wouldn't be fine.

Why would how long it is after Christmas Day matter? Surely the relevant date is when it was made?

Altinkum1 · 28/12/2014 18:51

We had leftover Pork and Turkey left over from Christmas Day, we ate it at 93.4c today, it was blooming lovely.

arlagirl · 28/12/2014 18:51

Im with you op.

AmserGwin · 28/12/2014 18:51

How does it make me hard work? I didn't say anything and I had a piece of Xmas cake instead! Hmm

Sirzy · 28/12/2014 18:51

Cakes until they had gone. Unless they were there for ages it wouldn't cross my mind to waste them

Christmasbargainshopper · 28/12/2014 18:51

3 days is probably fine for most people. I would be like you though Smile

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 28/12/2014 18:51

I only eat left overs the next day. The rest goes in the food recycling bin.

AmserGwin · 28/12/2014 18:52

skylark it was made for Xmas day so the day before I assume

TheyThinkImCool · 28/12/2014 18:52

AmserGwin I only keep left-overs for ONE day, I'd never eat something that is 3 days old, so you are certainly not being unreasonable.

Fabulous46 · 28/12/2014 18:52

I binned the gateaux and trifle that were left over yesterday. I wouldn't have eaten it today not that I'm sick of rich food or anything.

LadyLuck10 · 28/12/2014 18:53

Yanbu, the day after is fine. Anything more is won't eat it.

Boomtownsurprise · 28/12/2014 18:53

Bet she thought Pratt and rolled eyes.... It's what I did!

OddFodd · 28/12/2014 18:55

When you have cake when you're out, do you have any idea when they made the cake? Do you ask?

gamerchick · 28/12/2014 18:55

Oops are they okay today? I've just chucked half of a FG out.

In fairness I don't eat cakes and thought it would be off.

skylark2 · 28/12/2014 18:55

" I had a piece of Xmas cake instead!"

Which presumably had been around for a whole lot longer than since Xmas eve.

I don't get what's so magic about trifle which means it becomes "left overs" the moment anyone puts a spoon in it.

teacher54321 · 28/12/2014 18:56

I've been quietly throwing away leftovers today as 3 days is my entirely arbitrary cut off date.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 28/12/2014 18:56

No, I don't even want to eat them on Boxing Day. We try and make sure we don't have much in the way of leftovers. Hygiene wise no issue though, just don't fancy any of it.

teacher54321 · 28/12/2014 18:56

Apart from cake. Obviously. And mince pies.

AmserGwin · 28/12/2014 18:58

Normal cake is different, I know that keep longer. This was trifle and Gateau with cream. We sell fresh cream cakes in the shop where I work, we are only allowed to sell them on the day they come in and the rest is thrown at the end of the day!
I know they would be fine to eat the next day, but not 2/3 days later.

merlehaggard · 28/12/2014 18:59

The Xmas cake would have a very long life and doesn't contain dairy. That's the difference. I wouldn't have eaten it either.

AmserGwin · 28/12/2014 19:01

merlehaggard thankyou, that the point I'm trying to make Smile
