Do your children eat a full traditional Christmas lunch?

I was looking at my Facebook (I know) and I was amazed at how many children were sitting down to a full traditional Christmas lunch with no fussiness.

So are our kids, the only fussy ones out there, who turn their noses up at lovely turkey and roasties ?

DS doesn't like sprouts (sprouts and eggs are the only foods he wont eat so not bothered about it), DD2 struggles with mash (reflux) and DD1 doesn't like stuffing but other than that they eat the rest with relish Smile

My nearly one year old did - Turkey, pigs in blankets, carrots, parsnips, cauliflower cheese, gravy, asparagus, courgette and potatoes :) most of it went in him and not the dog!

5ChildrenAndIt · 28/12/2014 12:42

They eat the whole meal.

One whole meal.

Between the 4 of them.

DD1 eats only turkey.
DS1 is vegetarian but does a good job of potatoes and veg.
DS2 swipes pigs in blankets from anyone careless enough to not guard their plate.
Dd2 tries to get away with a cranberry sauce filled Yorkshire pudding.

5childrenandit that was refreshingly honest and funny :)

Mine eat most of their Christmas dinner with no fuss. The other 364 days of the year however...

skylark2 · 28/12/2014 15:57

Yes, and always have done. It's not THAT different from a normal roast dinner.

I mean, there are things they won't eat (neither likes parsnips or bread sauce and DD won't eat carrots) but they have certainly never had a special meal made for them on Christmas day, not even as toddlers.

HamishBamish · 28/12/2014 16:59

They didn't eat everything, but ate a reasonable amount. DS2 didn't eat as much as I had expected, but fell ill the following day so that may have been why. DS1 is 6 and has a fairly large appetite. He ate it all apart from the bread sauce.

I think what 5childrenAndIt said is quite accurate for our family. There's such a wide variety of things on offer that they both eat everything between them! That's the great thing about a roast, there's usually something for everyone.

Roast dinners are my DS's favourite meals so Xmas dinner is always going to be a hit.

Although DS1 only has turkey, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, carrots and gravy and DS2 has everything except parsnips and sprouts.

My 3 year old was asleep when we sat down (tired after a visit to A&E with a pulled shoulder ??), but he sat down and ate most of it when he woke up, I was v proud of him.

minibmw2010 · 28/12/2014 17:08

Pulled Elbow that should have said ...

unlucky83 · 28/12/2014 19:45

mini is that his first pulled elbow? Poor thing Flowers If it is -and you haven't been told - be really careful...DD2 did one arm and then the other one within a week - (and I thought she was pretending because it was the other one Sad) Someone told me it is a growth stage - their DC did it 4 or 5 times! I started holding my DD by the upper arm rather than hand when we were out and warned her nursery etc...

namechangerandachristmastree · 28/12/2014 20:02

roast dinner was always my favorite

minibmw2010 · 28/12/2014 20:08

Thanks Unlucky, good to know (??). He's had a broken arm and broken collar bone before so we took him straight to A&E, it was v clear something was wrong. Physio Nurse we had was brilliant after X-ray, it took about 30 seconds to fix and was horrible as clearly it pained him loads but she said she felt it pop back Into place and loves it when it works. Fingers crossed and we'll be careful, thanks.
