Do your children eat a full traditional Christmas lunch?

I was looking at my Facebook (I know) and I was amazed at how many children were sitting down to a full traditional Christmas lunch with no fussiness.

So are our kids, the only fussy ones out there, who turn their noses up at lovely turkey and roasties ?

oh and only one had a sprout but I never eat them either so can't really complain.

simpson · 25/12/2014 20:21

My DC do & DS is incredibly fussy but a roast dinner is one meal he will eat (bar sprouts!)

Tryingtobecalm · 25/12/2014 20:21

Yep. Although two were sick today so didn't eat but usually they do.

YoureAllABunchOfBastards · 25/12/2014 20:23

Mine both eat roast dinner - DS1 eats the lot, DS2 doesn't like mash. Veg wise they eat carrots, broccoli, cauliflower - DS1 had a sprout, but neither would entertain red cabbage or parsnips. All the more for me!

ChasedByBees · 25/12/2014 20:23

No veg sadly or stuffing, but wolfs down chicken / turkey / sausages (without the bacon wrapped round to cater for fussiness) and will eat potatoes too.

Quite fussy though.

AlwaysHoldingOnToStars · 25/12/2014 20:24

Mine aren't fussy so eat most things. DH and 2 DCs had roast parsnips, the rest of us don't like them. We had turkey, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, carrots, runner beans and sprouts. DH forgot to do mashed swede. Angry

We had yule log after as only DH likes Christmas pudding. There was too much other chocolate for them to go for the mince pies!

Purplehonesty · 25/12/2014 20:26

Mine usually do but today they filled up on the starters of melon and Parma ham, bread and pate.
So they didn't want a roast dinner after that! I let them play while we ate and they came back later and picked at bits.
Previous years they eat most of it but not overly keen on the meat.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 25/12/2014 20:27

Yes. Even sprouts Xmas Shock But they can be fussy about other things.
Ds wont look at a potato unless its roast or chips Xmas Blush

myotherusernameisbetter · 25/12/2014 20:28

its been a journey! but DS2 (13) eats Turkey, roasties, stuffing, Mash, pigs in blankets and gravy and a ton of sweetcorn in lieu of parsnips/carrots and sprouts. DS1 (14) is still a pain but will eat Turkey (leg only and no gravy) pigs in blankets, doesn't eat real potatoes so needs waffles/chips or something and has a tin of beans with it!......but we keep trying - they also both like yorkshire puddings if we have them.

morechildrenplease · 25/12/2014 20:30

All of mine had roast potatoes and gravy (known here as round chips to stop any complaints). Two had carrots, third refused. One had some chicken, the other two had chipolatas with ketchup (!). Still, last year none of them would eat any of it so vastly improved though still far from ideal!

myotherusernameisbetter · 25/12/2014 20:30

we didn't do starters and have't had pudd yet - we'll save that for having with a movie later.

cheminotte · 25/12/2014 20:32

Yes especially after putting cranbery sauce on turkey. We very rarely have roast during the year, but 7 yr old was happy to eat roast potatoes, parsnips, veg and pigs in blankets (his favourite). No sprouts on the menu though.

ouryve · 25/12/2014 20:32

Both of my kids are very fussy (ASD).

DS1 will eat the meat (he even had a little duck, today), stuffing and carrots and sprouts.
DS2 will eat meat, stuffing and roast potatoes (though not today, as he's sick and off his food)

Nervypreg · 25/12/2014 20:33

YANBU. My 3 yo dd had 1 spoonful of mash and 2 fingernail-sized bits of turkey. She threw a dicky-fit until MIL just gave her a choice of about 6 different puddings. Today she has successfully swerved all normal food, surviving only on biscuits, chocolate and said puddings. She is a fussy eater, particularly when with GPs as she knows they'll just shovel the nuggets, chips, sauce and general sugary shite down her throat with gusto.
I was less than impressed...

marne2 · 25/12/2014 20:34

One of mine does and one doesn't ( dd1 is very very fussy and I can't be bothered to argue with her ).

Artandco · 25/12/2014 20:36

Yes, they both love roasts. Lots of duck and red cabbage today

No sprouts in sight though as dh and I hate them.

Sirzy · 25/12/2014 20:38

DS is 5 and has always eaten Christmas dinner and loved it.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 25/12/2014 20:38

Mine ate Nutella sandwiches.

A lovely time was had by all.

Babieseverywhere · 25/12/2014 20:39

Mine had plain white rice and either ham or sausage.

None of them eat much and no way would they eat a full roast dinner but clearly my kids are in a minority.

Enjoy the rest of the Christmas evening Grin

Mine can be picky, esp one of them. I always put everything in serving bowls for them to help themselves to what they like. They seem to prefer that to a plated meal.

Starlightbright1 · 25/12/2014 20:40

Yep my DS 7 always does. Always has except the year he was too poorly to eat

TwoLittleTerrors · 25/12/2014 20:42

DD1 is very fussy and no way she will eat a roast dinner. We had a kedgeree for Xmas lunch. She likes carbs so it's rice or pastas. (Or chips, but not roast potatoes). She is 3.

DD2 also won't eat roast turkey but she is 3 mo Grin

ThereisnoFinWay · 25/12/2014 20:44

No. The 4yo had some turkey, one roast potato, a few carrot batons and two pigs in blankets (no gravy), the 19mo didn't eat a single bite.

SeasonsEatings · 25/12/2014 20:47

My DD loves roast dinner. I do a mid week roast for her. She loved her Christmas dinner. Age 2

naty1 · 25/12/2014 20:47

Dd 2.7 had pigs in blanket, melon, tomato, xmas pud and cream and maybe a bite or two of the roastie/parsnip/carrot.
But shes been off food last few days probably teething/tired
Because in last few weeks weve had 2 weatherspoons xmas dinner
And she ate all but brussels so: carrot/ potato, stuffing, cranberry, bit of turkey and gravy.
Also think excitement. But she did manage the puddings mince pie, trifle, sausage roll for tea.
