To think 'feeling blessed' is a disguised brag

Lighthearted

The status update starter "I'm feeling blessed because......." shouldn't end with a brag about what you have materially.

Am I alone in noticing this and has anyone got some funny examples to share?

I just read one "feeling blessed because my gorgeous hubby bought me some amazing presents"

OP posts:
MistressDeeCee · 25/12/2014 17:09

A good few of my friends have put up "christmas cards" featuring themselves smirking...I dunno..I find it all a bit "cringe" maybe Im old fashioned. & the boastful "I Am Blessed" thing is silly. Nobody with the perfect life has to advertise trivial aspects of it. Im already fed up of the christmas dinner/breakfast pics

usualsuspect333 · 25/12/2014 17:09

I might go and brag on my FB

usualsuspect333 · 25/12/2014 17:10

Isn't that what FB is for?

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2014 17:11

Do it usual. Grin

haphazardbystarlight · 25/12/2014 17:11

I don't use Facebook now. What's feeling blessed?!

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2014 17:12

I guess it's just feeling happy with your lot and that people have bought you some nice gifts?

usualsuspect333 · 25/12/2014 17:13

I will post a photo of my present haul just to give the miserable fuckers summat to moan about on MN.

CombineBananaFister · 25/12/2014 17:13

I used feeling blessed (in a phrase today, not on FB) because that's how I was genuinely feeling - Dh got a new boss recently who gave him the day off work at the last minute and so he got to spend xmas day with me and DS Grin - suppose it wasn't owt to do with material things.

YANBU though with some of them, it really should read 'feeling smug' or feeling ner ner ner ner ner 'cos i got this and you haven't'.

McSqueezy · 25/12/2014 17:14

I agree, it's just a way for people to brag/boast OR to pretend they are doing better/are happier than they actually are. One reason I don't really like social networking.

usualsuspect333 · 25/12/2014 17:14

Noooo Sparky,Mnetters status updates are worthy and intelligent. No niceness allowed.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2014 17:15

usual. Tall things like perfume/smellies at the back, smaller expensive things at the front and don't forget to splay the bank notes out fan style and prop up any gift cards with the value clearly visible. Wink

usualsuspect333 · 25/12/2014 17:16

I might take a selfie in my new coat.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2014 17:17

Selfie in new coat holding all your other presents? Make sure new coat price tag on show.

angeltulips · 25/12/2014 17:18

I think Christmas Day is the best time to check facebook - lots of lovely pics of people with families and lights and food and warmth and everyone feeling kind and glowing.

Sadly my in laws are rabid ski nuts so I am checking my facebook from the ski lift as we have been skiing all day am totally fed up, just want to go home and eat and open presents so it's nice to see others doing normal Christmassy things!

angeltulips · 25/12/2014 17:19

Ps do agree with the op that "feeling blessed" is an odd construct to use for non religious people

Fabulous46 · 25/12/2014 17:20

I said to my sister this morning I felt blessed to have all my kids home for Christmas. How that can be construed as boasting is beyond me.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2014 17:24

The OP did say it was bragging about what you have materially that 'feeling blessed' shouldn't be used for Fab.

usualsuspect333 · 25/12/2014 17:25

It's not boasting, it's just updating your status about your day.

I've loved looking at my friends and families pictures and reading about their Christmases.

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2014 17:26

I am off to have a mooch through DS's feed. Teen FB is really something.

Fabulous46 · 25/12/2014 17:29

I have too Usual. I've loved seeing all the photos of people's presents and of little ones having fun.

Shonajay · 25/12/2014 17:31

My feeling blessed is all about recovering from a serious illness. Not material shit.

usualsuspect333 · 25/12/2014 17:37

I've a few things I don't feel blessed about, but that doesn't stop me enjoying seeing other people happy.

slithytove · 25/12/2014 17:40

I'm feeling blessed I still have two children to share today with.

JeanSeberg · 25/12/2014 17:43

I really want to see your new coat now usual!

hmc · 25/12/2014 17:49

My friends don't do a whole lot of bragging on Facebook - I think the trick is to be selective about your friends list. Better
