To leave a friend's wedding 'early'?

I think I have upset a friend by leaving her wedding early. When I say early I mean I left at 10.45pm. The wedding was scheduled to finish at midnight.

I don't have a 'valid' excuse to leave early, as in I am not pregnant and don't have a young child to get back to.

The reasons I left at 10.45 were because I had left the house at 6am to make the long journey to the wedding and had to make a 4/5 hour journey back home the next day. Also the wedding was last Friday and I still had loads of Christmas prep to do (we are hosting this year) plus I felt like I was coming down with a flu/cold and didn't want to stay up too late and party too hard and make myself ill for Christmas, so I took it easy at her wedding (i.e. not drinking much and leaving early).

Was I BU?

YANBU. At my wedding, older family members and those with young kids started leaving about 8:30pm and friends started leaving about 10pm, and while I was sad that they left I wasn't annoyed at them or anything. I'm sure they were grateful that you came in the first place :)

At my wedding people left at all sorts of different times. A bride and groom have no right to tell people what time to leave.

You feel you have upset her or she's articulated you upset her? Twos v diff imo.

Maybe she thought you would be drunk with them after the party in the bar til wee hrs...? Romantic view but common one

I left my Dsis wedding early, my friend was my lift and wanting to get home and I was babysitting the bride and grooms children for the night. So I went back to theirs. She didnt care, she was too busy on the dancefloor.

As long as you said goodbye. My bridesmaid had to leave at 9pm. She was there for the important parts x
