to ask if you'd like a meal for 2 on Christmas day in Somerset? (title edited by MNHQ)

I am abusing AIBU as I've searched alone with no luck. Please help me with ideas or where best on MN to post.

To keep it simple, I have a fancy Christmas Day lunch for two booked that I can no longer use and can't get refunded. It is silly for it to go to waste, so I'd like to pass it to someone who could do with it.

Currently booked for two adults but could be an adult and child over 3, in Somerset, menu choices haven't been made yet.

Being a Sunday I haven't had any luck contacting local charities. Dont seem to be any local shelters.

Can you think of the best way for me to find a taker?

I came here as I remembered the Christmas Appeal from years ago.

Thanks

But whereabouts in Somerset?

londonrach · 23/12/2014 22:52

Anyone watch the bbc news article about that lady in ottery st mary (just over the border, somerset bred here) who was alone for xmas and paid £1000 for lonely people to have a meal today. I bet 3 of them would love this!

HoHonutty · 23/12/2014 23:08

Caroline - Ilminster, just off the A303 between Yeovil and Taunton I guess. Know anyone?

London - Ive not seen that but will investigate.

Thank you for all the bumps!

Bump - OP, Have you tried local radio? I think your gift is very generous and I hope someone manages to take it up.

olympicsrock · 24/12/2014 02:32

Excellent idea Bunny Jo

TheHoneyBadger · 24/12/2014 07:39

go into the church local to the pub and ask the minister if he/she knows of two people who are alone for christmas who could stand each others company Wink and wouldn't feel insulted to receive this gift. that could be lovely actually.

BIWI · 24/12/2014 07:41

Keeping it bumped!

Tinkerball · 24/12/2014 07:43

How lovely, that's a shame you can't go.

Try facebook and twitter. Do you have a local FB group?

YonicSleighdriver · 24/12/2014 08:31

Well done, that's lovely. There are some RAF bases that way who might have welfare officers or chaplains working today.

Bohemond · 24/12/2014 08:32

Call Tone FM which is the local Taunton station

Bohemond · 24/12/2014 08:33

Or call Chair of local WI?

Aridane · 24/12/2014 08:50

Can't believe you haven't got a taker!

TheSpottedZebra · 24/12/2014 09:58

Also can't believe you don't have a taker.
OP you're very kind.

YonicSleighdriver · 24/12/2014 10:01

I expect there aren't that many MNers who would only have one other person to take and who haven't already got food and/or visitors.

GazpachoSoup · 24/12/2014 10:03

Lovely. I'm nowhere near though!

HerrenaHarridan · 24/12/2014 10:44

I really hope you find someone.

Honey badger, order a takeaway, honestly at least 2 Chinese takeaways and 3 Indian takeaways round here are advertising that they are open Christmas Day.

Treat yourself to the most expensive things one the menu abs it'll still be cheaper than rusting up a last min Xmas dinner :)

HerrenaHarridan · 24/12/2014 10:49

Gosh the things I do for mn.

Just joined the Somerset FB group and posted a link for you op
