So I just had a knock on the door and behind it there were a man and about 10 year old boy. Guess what? Boy starts talking to me about god. Jehova fucking witnesses!!! I cannot close the door in the boy's face and I feel sorry for him, as he is clearly nervous. Eventually I brought an excuse that I can't stand for too long, being 37 weeks pregnant, so they left. Before leaving man opened his mouth finally and said: read the website, blah-blah-blah(usual BS).
Is it the case to report to police/social services? What kind of parent would drag their child to knock on the door of the stranger?
AIBU to be angry about the matter?

I genuinely don't get why JW think it is ok to knock on people's doors though to peddle their ideals.

I am fully behind everyone's right to practice religion as they see fit. However, I resent that my right to not practice religion is disturbed by people ignoring the signs on my door and hammering away.

It's called evangelism- and is central to some faiths.

JingleBellSniffer · 23/12/2014 16:03

only read the top few posts.
they knock on people's doors because of the same reason they go to the streets.

Mark 16:15,
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

There's a reason why they do it and also reasons why Witnesses don't celebrate christmas:

Jesus commanded that we commemorate his death, not his birth.—Luke 22:19, 20.

and birthdays too, both mentions of birthdays in the bible, Matthew 14: 6-10 & In Genesis 40:20-22, mention murder and aren't very nice things to celebrate on birthdays. also back to Luke, Jesus wanted his death celebrated. Also birthdays put you above God, the same way wearing precious metals & jewels, and having something that you see as more precious than God in your hands is forbidden by Allah in islam.

They can't have tattoos, as said in leviticus: 19:28, Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD.

Or blood transfusions: 6"The Old Testament law required people not to eat flesh with the blood in it; rather, they were required to pour the blood out. See Gen. 9:4; Lev. 3:17; 19:26; 17:10-15; Deut. 12:16,23-28; 15:23; 1 Sam. 14:31ff. Further, they were not to directly eat blood of any animal - Lev. 7:26,27; 17:10ff; Deut. 12:23.^

The point of Jesus was to eradicate these laws such as wearing two different types of cloth: Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together. (NIV, Deuteronomy 22:11)
cross dressing: A woman must not wear men's clothing, nor a man wear women's clothing, for the LORD your God detests anyone who does this. (NIV, Deuteronomy 22:5) this is one of the reasons Joan of Arc was prosecuted.
Circumcision: And on the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised. (leviticus, 12:3 as well as many OTHER ones. in 1 Corinthians 7:19 it says it doesn't matter if you are or aren't, god still loves you)

also locking your menstruating girls up, not washing when menstruating, etc etc etc were all supposed to be eradicated with the birth of jesus. they weren't. There are reasons for living your life in the bible, every choice has an explanation.

That's fine. Good luck to them.

But it doesn't give them the right to ignore the requests of home owners for no cold calling.

BackOnlyBriefly · 23/12/2014 22:31

What the comment states that religion should be banned until children reach the age of reason.

No it doesn't, Toadinthehole. This is the problem. You don't understand what's being said.

BackOnlyBriefly · 23/12/2014 22:35

JingleBellSniffer I agree that it's an explanation. Not sure if you were saying those are good reasons, but I wouldn't.

JingleBellSniffer · 24/12/2014 08:42

backonly no not good reasons at all, i was just saying thats what they belive in. they turn to the bible for every aspect of their life. although, the original abrahamic laws such as two seperate cloths and such aren't really followed anymore.

BackOnlyBriefly · 24/12/2014 14:52

Ah I hoped that was what you meant, but wasn't sure.

Gingerfudge · 24/12/2014 15:02

You need to ask them directly not to knock on your door. I did this 7 years ago and they have not bothered me since. My mil is a JW, she suggested I did this if I didn't wish to be disturbed. Smile

BreakingDad77 · 24/12/2014 15:06

My standard response is 'Why don't you do something useful like refurbish areas/buildings etc for the community, people would see you in a different light rather than all the wasted effort trawling around peoples houses, kthanx bye'

BackOnlyBriefly · 24/12/2014 15:06

A sign saying no cold callers should be enough.

mimilovell · 08/01/2015 13:58

you should be more scared on what is on your TV when it comes to brain washing.

LaLyra · 08/01/2015 14:07

The JWs round here are the only ones who don't pretend they 'didn't see' the no cold callers sign.

Also you can call the local Kingdom Hall and ask that your address be removed from their field service lists (or ask the ones who come to the door).

GlitzAndGigglesx · 08/01/2015 14:27

I had a JW banging on my door until I answered. I thought someone had been hurt! I said "no thank you" when I saw his badge and he was still yapping as the door was closing

GlitzAndGigglesx · 08/01/2015 14:28

They often approach you on the street too where I live

LongDistanceLove · 08/01/2015 14:52

This came out yesterday as a reaction to what happened in Paris, after reading this thread I thought it would be apt.
