Roussette, I definitely agree about the lack of tickers, sigs and like buttons. They clutter up forums and don't really add to discussions much. Edit and quote functions do.
I really don't understand why Mumsnet don't have them, when other large forums function perfectly well with them. I use quite a few forums and I find this one the most difficult to use.

it's frustrating sometimes when you can't edit but I think given the, er, heated debates in this particular site that no editing is probably best. I've been on other sites where people post things, goady things and the like, then edit their post afterwards to make it look like the responses to their post are wildly unreasonable. I think not being able to back away from what you've put on screen is probably a good thing.

How about a function which automatically and helpfully directs people to one of the billion and one other threads on a subject where it has been fully discussed and a decision made?

that's why I suggested a 30 second edit just enough time to correct grammar etc not to change because of responses

FLmummy I get what you say yes but as treaclesoda says... edit (unless it is a small time window to do) can create havoc when posters can say something - and then 'unsay' it or deny it ever was said by clever editing!
