To not be able to stand Katharine Jenkins' voice?

Especially in her upper register? I can't understand what words she's supposed to be singing. It gives me the rage, I was always taught in singing lessons and county choir to enunciate clearly. No point in singing if no-one can understand you!

Her lower register's fine, BTW, even if what she does with her lips is just tortuous to watch.

I can't stand her either and I don't usually feel strongly about slebs.

I like adele though!

bumpthedoor · 18/12/2014 17:43

I like Adele, and would rather sound and look like her than Syrupy K.J.

NobodyLivesHere · 18/12/2014 17:49

Paperlace, she just always thought herself a cut above the rest of us plebs. That interview were she talks about how everyone hates her because Shes pretty sums her up really. She was syrupy sweet to teachers with an acid tongue when they weren't looking.
She cried when they didn't make her head girl. Lol.

I'm Welsh speaking and I can't abide her either. Lol

My objections to KJ are purely vocal (though I agree about the world-class simper), but am crying with laughter over the idea of someone throwing a hissy fit at not being made HG.

Theboodythatrocked · 18/12/2014 22:03

God just heard her on the heroes programme and it was painful to be honest. She warbles. And then screams.

MrsJamin · 18/12/2014 22:12

I also cannot stand her. Also she won't do any charity work besides stuff for the army because her brand is "forces sweetheart" Hmm

squoosh · 18/12/2014 22:17

Didn't she make some announcement on Twitter that she definitely had not had an affair with David Beckham. Apparently it was to put an end to rumours that no one had even heard of.

iklboo · 18/12/2014 22:20

We sing these lyrics to Skyfall

We've got trifle
And apple crumble.....

All in a Dick van Dyke cock-er-nee accent.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 18/12/2014 22:32

I think her audience is probably a late middle aged person who drives a Rover, reads the Sunday Express and has very strong views on Camilla v Diana

Spot on. My FIL is a fan and you've just described him perfectly :)

LuluJakey1 · 18/12/2014 23:15

Agree, can't stand it. Hate hearing her.

curiousgeorgie · 18/12/2014 23:26

So, knowing nothing about Opera at all... Was Charlotte Church good? Because I met her and she was absolutely lovely Smile

Theboodythatrocked · 18/12/2014 23:47

I already asked about charlotte as I like her but have no idea what's good:bad opera as commen as muck me!

David Beckham!!'??? In her fuckin dreams. Hope Vicki punches her. X
Cheeky cow!

SeriouslyIRegisteredtoAskThis · 19/12/2014 00:20

nobody so who was head girl in your year? I always assumed it was Katherine Jenkins.

montysma1 · 19/12/2014 00:30

I am an opera singer and hence a lot of my facebook friends are classical singers or musicians too. The news feed vitriol whenever she has been inflicted on us on TV is hysterical. She really is very poor. There are FAR better mezzos all over the country in amateur choirs.

MardyBra · 19/12/2014 00:39

I'm a mezzo in an amateur choir! Grin

montysma1 · 19/12/2014 00:44

And probably better than KJ!

Theboodythatrocked · 19/12/2014 00:48

Come in opera people!

Is charlotte good?

MardyBra · 19/12/2014 00:49

That's kind of you monty but I don't think I'll be giving up the day job just yet! But there are definitely some members of my choir who I'd rather listen to over Ms Jenkins. Smile

moonface1 · 19/12/2014 01:39

I'd be interested in opera people view on Charlotte. I thought she was good, for her age, though one of many such talents. Obviously it all declined and she didn't go on to achieve potential, I think.
In one way, similar to KJ, I think she was lucky in terms of contacts, pR and being in right place at the right time. Didn't she become famous after the This Morning phone-in, where she sang Pie Jesu down the phone to Richard and Judy (I was a teenager at the time but remember it well).

moonface1 · 19/12/2014 01:40

It was some sort of talent phone-in.

Kundry · 19/12/2014 07:02

I am sure Charlotte is lovely. However in opera terms her voice was a nice young girl's voice, not an opera singer's voice. Her voice was pushed into repetoire a real opera singer wouldn't have handled for years - opera is about adult voices that are trained to handle it and the voice can be irreparably damaged if pushed into that sort of singing too young.

LottieMumofWilfJenkins · 19/12/2014 07:17

I cant abide KJ, (no relation!! Xmas Wink ) I think Laura Wright has a wonderful voice. She went to school with my niece and nephew.

PunkrockerGirl · 19/12/2014 07:27

I don't like her voice. But I dislike opera snobs and music snobs generally even more.

Notagainmun · 19/12/2014 07:39

I am not a fan of opera so I can't tell if she is good or not. I saw her sing live in November and she is stunning. However, she has a powerful voice and then when she talks she sounds like a breathless little girl and bats her eyelashes like Betty Boo. She pretends to be shocked when she gets a round of applause and flowers. She blew kisses to the male voice choir that supported her and they all started to drool, DH included. Can't stand her falseness.
