To not allow my mums dog in my house

I have invited my parents and DB, SIL and niece to visit next weekend to have a meet up before Xmas. I live 70 miles away and won't be visiting until Boxing Day. The visit was suggested by DB and SIL as they would like to do some shopping and visit the German markets and then they are invited back to our home for a late lunch, mulled wine and mince pies etc.
My mum is now saying she won't leave her dog at home (a friend has offered to look after him for the day) and she will either sit in my house alone whilst we go into town or not come at all.
I have just bought a new sofa and she will not stop him jumping up. He recently went to my DBs house and scent marked in every room.

AIBU to stand firm and say no? This bloody dog seems to scupper any plans we ever try to organise!

That sucks OP.

Hope your dad actually helps you out and respects your request.

FWIW my MIL's dog is not welcome in my house because it's batshit crazy. And I own a dog who isn't perfect, but won't destroy my house.

I know it seems hypocritical, but tough shit.

I don't have a dog and refuse to let any in the house or garden. Definitely YANBU.

That dog is alpha dog in it's own mind - it wouldn't be safe around dc!

HemanOrSheRa · 16/12/2014 22:45

YANBU. I agree with Across and LaGourmande

I adore my dog and take her everywhere I can. She is very well behaved. However, I always ask if it's ok to bring her along when we visit anyone. Even if we've done so before I always check if its ok. If its not then I make other arrangements for her care.

I also will NOT let my Sil bring her dog to my house. She is as mad as a bag of bats, pisses everywhere when she gets excited, knocks stuff over and generally destroys the general area she is in. To be fair Sil is ok with this as the dog is not much better at home.

You are totally NBU. I have a dog and wouldn't dream of having him in anyone's house if they didn't want a dog there. One of my friends won't have it and sometimes my dm won't either. He goes to the kennel if needed. He is also toilet trained!

Who are all these people in the world who assume it's OK to just rock up with their un-toilet trainee dogs to someone else's house Confused and for that matter have not house broken them?

livingzuid · 16/12/2014 22:55

Trained not trainee! Although if a puppy you hope it is a toilet-trainee Smile
