Seriously isn't it just a bit of a waste of money, well apart from a couple of dresses I have which go static without?

I don't use it but that's due to allergy reasons not for cost.

YANBU. I never do - saves money, doesn't smell of anything (which I prefer).

My washing crackles at me if I don't. But yanbu. Obvz.

its just I was having a conversation with a friend a couple of weeks ago about this and she had never done a load of washing without it . It made me wonder who was in the minority that's all. It's lighthearted obviously

I never use it either, op. I stopped using it over 20 years ago and at 1st my clothes felt a bit stiff. Now I'm used to it, and clothes washed with conditioner feel and smell wrong to me.

I stopped using fabric conditioner a few years ago but was left with a huge container of it. It went very quickly on Freecycle. It was very useful on tights and popsocks though.

I always use it, but i like the "fresh" smell while I'm drying my clothes! But know many people who don't

I haven't used it for about 2 years, after reading other people didn't on here. It hasn't made the slightest bit of difference IMO.

I haven't used fabric softener for years. I switched to white vinegar after reading an old school tip on MSE. It's brilliant! I go to a Chinese supermarket once a year and buy 4 x 5 litre catering bottles for £20. Lasts the whole year and my laundry is lovely and soft; no static and no nasty sticky residue either.

I can't stand the feel of fabric that's been washed with FS anymore.

Never used it - hate the smell and it's a pointless waste of money.

Doesn't vinegar stink? I expect by the time its dry it doesn't smell of anything...?

Stopped using it about 6 months ago. Just seemed to be a stupid waste of money when the washing powder does the cleaning and smells nice enough. Clothes feel the same. The only thing that doesn't is white company kids nightgowns and their checked pyjamas too, come out all rough and stiff.

YANBU. I have never used the stuff.
I like the towels all stiff and crisp, but like anything else, they soften up within ten secs of use/wear.

Thanks everyone, this isn't just me being slovenly then. Now I must admit I've never heard this vinegar thing. How much do you put in? Can imagine me getting a bit carried away, lovely non-static clothes with 'eau de chip shop'.

Personally I hate the feel of my clothes without fabric softener but each to their own!

I used to use it on my teenage sons' manky socks and pants but that was all I used it for.

Never use it on towels. Causes a waxy residue that inhibits absorbency. Plus there's nothing better than a crisp towel to rub yourself dry. Gets the blood flowing.

we tumble dry and use a static cloth. we make our own detergent, so our clothes are soft, fluffy and ever so slightly citrus scented
it costs about 4 cents per load.

I don't see the need for fabric softener, we live in a soft water area so maybe detergent is enough and leaves clothes smelling lovely.

I've never used it. It's just marketing hype.
