Seriously isn't it just a bit of a waste of money, well apart from a couple of dresses I have which go static without?

Is this just me (well and dm) ......... or not?

Yes, but hair, that does not cancel out my experience at other people's houses that their towels have poor absorbancy.

Yes, you get dry, eventually.

And no need to shake yourself like a dog.

But personally I hate the feeling of wrapping myself in a towel with my wet skin just sitting, wet, underneath the softness.

My cardboard towels just have to come within a foot of my body to absorb all wetness instantly Wink

Chandon · 17/12/2014 07:53

What is the active ingredient of softener anyway? Is if like silicone in conditioner?

LST · 17/12/2014 08:14

I have no issue with my towels.

Marcipex · 17/12/2014 08:14

Apparently the ac is tallow from rendered down carcasses.

BumWad · 17/12/2014 08:38

I love it but don't use it on my towel wash. The towels get a good go in the tumble dryer which fluffs them up.

HeyheyheyGoodbye · 17/12/2014 08:46

I can't use it as DH is allergic to every type I've ever tried. I don't miss it on my towels (Team Crunchy!) but I do find my clothes go bobbly more quickly, which is annoying.

Minithemoocher · 17/12/2014 08:53

This is a stupid question, but do you put the vinegar in with the powder or in the slot for conditioner?
I don't use conditioner but keep thinking about trying some vinegar.
Also does anyone know if you can use vinegar if you're washing cloth nappies?

londonrach · 17/12/2014 08:53

Seems we never going to agree...either team crunchy (heyhey suggestion) and team softy. Think we just agree to disagree. team softy is better [fgrin)

Fail with the smily Xmas Grin

They don't dry you as efficiently though, MIL puts FC on her towels and they take most of the water off your skin but leave a sort of dampness, the squeegee analogy is a good one. I'm definitely Team Crunchy, but even if I craved softness I'd go for vinegar or Surcare (unfragranced) because most FCs smell rank.

mausmaus · 17/12/2014 09:29

vinegar in softener compartment.
yes can be used with cloth nappies.
the smell dissapears when dry.

iwantaginsoakedXmas · 17/12/2014 09:35

Does Apple Cyder vinegar work as well as white wine vinegar ?

iwantaginsoakedXmas · 17/12/2014 09:35

And yes, that is the spelling on the bottle.

Olde English Cyder,, innnit ? Xmas Grin

I will use fabric conditioner when I remember. But never on towels or jeans (not recommended for jeans - something to do with lycra?)

I like soft towels though, but i've always heard that you should NEVER use them on towels.

I do however use a scoop of soda crystals with my powder as the water is very hard in our area.

StepAwayFromTheMincePies · 17/12/2014 10:12

I wash towels but instead of conditioner I put dettol in the fabric conditioner drawer, they smell all fresh and yum. Sometimes I use lavender oil on my sheets instead of conditioner and that is fresh smelling too.

Sunnymeg · 17/12/2014 10:21

Fabric conditioner damages elastic. I have to wear compression bandages and was told never to use fabric conditioner when I washed them. So now I don't bother to use it on anything as so many of our clothes have elastic as a component.

ChristmasDawndonnaagain · 17/12/2014 10:21

Just out of interest (very allergic family) has anyone tried those knobbly balls that you bung in the tumble dryer?

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 17/12/2014 10:26

Yes but not for softness, just because they are supposed to speed up drying. They make a lot of noise in the drum and ours kept getting taken upstairs with the dry laundry so they were never by the dryer when you wanted them.

ChristmasDawndonnaagain · 17/12/2014 10:41

Thank you, Who Knows.

BreakingDad77 · 17/12/2014 10:53

Well depends on whose wearing it, in my area towels go all stiff and makes some clothes harder to iron.

MindReader · 17/12/2014 11:12

I use the tumble dryer with the knobbly dryer balls in for 10 mins, then hang.
Ds has bad eczema so cant use fabric softener.
We've not missed it.
