on monday is secret santa with the requirement of a hand made gift. i was well prepared and bought a kit online to make a soft toy. so fine and dandy but have spent the afternoon ripping the sodding house to pieces looking for it and cannot find it. i have cried but that is not solving the problem. i have no time left!!!!

so, what can i make that involves some degree of homemadeness that will not be totally crap and is suitable for an adult woman?

please please help- am fairly crap at creative stuff but can cook.

Yes, tablet is Scottish fudge! It's lovely, quite like fudge just a bit crumblier. The Thornton one use to be ok, tho I've not had it in a few years. Buy ready made, then ponce about wih the presentation?

Homemade brown cardy box thing with tartan ribbon?

Bifflepants · 13/12/2014 21:20

Step away from the gingerbread house ideas folks ... this person is clearly not crafty and it will be a complete disaster. Just make some mince pies, or some choc truffles and put them in a pretty box. Good luck.

TheSpottedZebra · 13/12/2014 21:21

Is she Scottish, or does she just like coos?

PoinsettiaGordino · 13/12/2014 21:21

This ribbon wreath requires no sewing, though you do need plenty of ribbon and a wire hoop. You could do a small one for indoors, doesn't have to be large

But the food options sound easiest

Ainmnua · 13/12/2014 21:21

Have a look at MN on you tube, really easy homemade chocolate blocks.

Bifflepants · 13/12/2014 21:21

Hang on yes, the Lidl fudge idea is perfect. Do that.

greenfolder · 13/12/2014 21:22

AdiposeLoveMe must confess that what started the whole thing was someone mentioning a site where people post pictures of their dire results when trying to make something on pinterest.

this has come back to bite me......

OP posts:
greenfolder · 13/12/2014 21:23

she is Scottish and she loves coos

TheSpottedZebra · 13/12/2014 21:25

Oh, don't do tablet then, she'll have had better.
Do fudge.

greenfolder · 13/12/2014 21:28

oh, tablet seems feasible- now where can i get tartan ribbon in a small market town on a sunday? or a posh box? argos, waitrose, card factory, 99p store and poundstretcher- oh and bargain booze!

agree biffle gingerbread house i could do (but am getting frazzled) and the thought of getting it to work on Monday might tip me over

i still have the bag of stuffing for the perfect thing i was making- could i use this to create a Santa beard or summat? Or just package it up with a carrot and some coal and call it a make your own snowman kit?

OP posts:
TheSpottedZebra · 13/12/2014 21:32

Are you making or buying the tablet? If you make it, it will be lovely.
If you buy Thornton's, she might have had better. But the lidl fudge is very very good.

So if you make - do either. If you buy, buy fudge.

StilleNachtCarolling · 13/12/2014 21:33

TheSpottedZebra · 13/12/2014 21:34

Could you be honest and say it is the coo's innards? Wih rest of the beastie to follow in good time?

wfrances · 13/12/2014 21:37

lavender bags?

RJnomore · 13/12/2014 21:37

Green make Xmas bark. Someone's told you how upthread. Stop putting stress on yourself! Take the easy option!

Fallulah · 13/12/2014 21:42

Make some simple sweets - choc truffles, peppermint creams. Roll a piece of card into a toilet roll sized tube, fill with sweets. Roll your roll in tissue/crepe paper so the there is a length of paper either end. Tie at either end so that it looks like a Christmas cracker. Et voila!

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 13/12/2014 21:43

Yes, really the Christmas bark is pretty well foolproof, very quick and looks great, especially if you can find a cellophane bag to put it in (Waitrose sell them next to the other plastic food bags) and tie with some ribbon.

Failing that, yes,Lidl fudge is bloody brilliant. The one in the black and white packaging.

Notmuchhaschanged · 13/12/2014 21:44

Have you got ground cinnamon, caster sugar and a mason jar? If yes I have the easiest present for you in the world

Gaia81 · 13/12/2014 23:15

Slightly different take on Christmas bark happyhourprojects.com/bite-sized-party-bark/

greenfolder · 14/12/2014 00:01

Right, going to have a go at making tablet, some bark stuff and will buy some fudge as a back up. Feeling cheered as have realised that the base of a card box is a ready made tray for it all to sit on. Will scout the town for suitable ribbon and stuff. Thank you all for your help!
