AIBU?

Bastards parking on pavements!

People that completely block the footpaths with their cars. AIBU to have pre-printed some notes to leave on windscreens because on a 5 minute journey I counted 12! There is NEVER an excuse!

This boils my piss! Angry (in case there was any doubt)

YANBU. I was once nearly hit by a 4 x 4 trying to park on a pavement I was walking along, as it skidded on ice.

I'm quite disgusted by posters on here that think they are entitled to cause criminal damage to a car.

Fair enough if you feel the need to put a note on.. That's your choice. And same to go down channels to report it that's fine too...

Scratch someone's car to 'prove a point'? Causing 200-300 quids worth of damage.. Then post here like it's justified ... Shame on you. What great examples of human beings you are to your darling little children.

Nobody is advocating damaging cars for fun. But if there is a choice between pushing a wheelchair into a road or scratching a car that shouldn't be there why should anyone take a risk?

Who cares if a car gets a scratch? If the owner cared they wouldn't block a path.

I absolutely agree with the above. Let's face it, the inconsiderate car owners are more concerned about their convenience than the injury that could be caused to other human beings by their actions. Why should any of the rest of us be bothered about the injury we cause to their cars by our actions?

Really lilmiss? I'm quite disgusted by posters on here who are attempting to justify parking on pavements.

Just the other day I pulled my car off a busy road onto a side road to look at a map near to where a pavement started but not actually on it. Next thing I know I hear a great clunk on the side of my car - a woman with a push chair decided she would prove a point that she couldn't get to the start of the pavement via the bit of road that I had parked on by bashing her pushchair into my car. I drive an old banger so I wasn't too bothered but more concerned about the poor kid in the chair. Never mind that I was actually parked on a road - I just looked at her, though she didn't look at me, and thought - you look knackered love, I remember being a bit of a mad cow too in those sleep deprived days. Someone else might not have been quite so forgiving.

Accidental damage is one thing, deliberate damage quite another. I agree that if you really have to squeeze past and damage occurs, the car owner should suck it up. But wilful damage is not acceptable. This is the whole reason I'm armed with notes - so that the whole thing can be avoided. We have the neighbourhood watch on board now as well Smile

What pisses me off is the fact I'd get a parking ticket in a flash if I parked like that. How do people get away with it??

Totally selfish behaviour. Where I live (in Dublin) people do it right outside the police station. When a friend of mine called in and objected because she had to go out into the road with the buggy, the policeman on duty told her it was okay because people parking there were 'calling into the station on official business'. Presume that would have stood up in court if a small baby had been seriously injured or worse as a result of having to be wheeled out into a busy main road Shock

YANBU.

When my twins were babies I had to walk down the middle of Vicarage Road in Watford for a short while, as even thought there is clearly marked residents parking, most people park on the pavement.

If anyone is familiar with the area you'll know it's very busy and it was not at all safe.

Nope... Still disgusted at anyone who scratches a car on purpose ...
Be all up about it as you like, pavements parking civil dispute, criminal damage... Criminal record.

And if someone had pushed their pram into my car whilst I'd have been there.. I'd have arrested her from criminal damage ... Simple.

The type of people that do this wont pay your note the slightest bit of attention and will throw them on the floor. Whilst understandable all you will achieve is litter......

I hate inconsiderate parking, although the thing that really angers me is people without blue badges parking in disabled spaces - I have several relatives with blue badges so I see the impact it has if they can't get a disabled space due to other people's lack of consideration. But parking on pavements can be just as inconsiderate. I would never advocate deliberately causing damage, but I do think people need to be challenged. Clearly they don't like being challenged because they almost always become verbally abusive. I've been threatened with physical violence twice, so I guess it's not for everyone. But yeah, I think it's a good idea to put a notice on inconsiderately parked cars. It might not make a huge difference to people's inconsiderate behaviour, but it does send the signal that their behaviour is not universally condoned.

I spent a few minutes on the pavement right outside my own house once (barely able to access my own front door with a pushchair full of heavy baby), spitting on my finger and writing in the dirt on a badly-parked van, 'PAVEMENTS ARE 4 PEOPLE'.

I felt a lot better for doing it, but I have no idea if the driver of the (filthy) van even noticed.

I think a note that said 'I have taken a photo of your parking/ note of your registration number and emailed it to the police' might be more effective.
At the top of my road, v close to the junction with the main road, lives a inconsiderate asshole man who has concreted over his front garden to park two of his vehicles there. The garden was never intended for this and is not deep enough so the arse end hangs onto the pavement. He then parked his van half on half off the pavement at the side of the road, so there is no room to get through with a buggy. He hasn't done it recently, wonder why? Wink

Lorrys around here park on a 60mile road. Some park in the road, but some totally block the pavement which means 3-4 mornings a week on my way to work I have to walk in a road around a lorry with cars going along at 60, sometimes there are two or three lorries parked up in a row and its terrifying. Theres no other way to get to work and no pedestrian crossing and the council arent interested in putting one in because "most people drive to work on that road" but it still infuriates me

Part of the problem round here with cars is that its mixed private and housing association. The housing association refuse to put drop kerbs in and generally put up fences along the drives if there isnt one already which means that the people living there have a drive big enough for 2-3 cars and instead have to park mostly on the pavement because its a narrow road, its madness and a total waste of space, and they make it very awkward for those of us who do have drives to get on and off, because of where they have to park

Criminal damage is related to intent. If I'd pushed past a car with a buggy to avoid being hit, and inadvertently scratched your car, it isn't criminal damage.

To the people prepared to commit criminal damage...

The person who keyed our car a few months ago for parking on a pavement was just last week convicted of criminal damage by the crown court and forced to pay a substantial amount of money.

So I urge you to think twice about doing that, it may bite you on the arse.
