Whatever happened to rum and raisin ice cream?

Or am I just trawling for ice cream parlours shopping in all the wrong places?
Any favourite/long-lost/dream flavours? I'm quite partial to a good vanilla but if you could offer me buttered popcorn, or guava, I'd seriously consider marrying you. Oooh: maybe fig and marscapone...?

Gino ginelli was lush

Rainicorn · 10/12/2014 21:23

Lolita, cherry Garcia can be purchased from your local cinema complex. You can buy Cherry Garcia frozen yoghurt in Tesco, but it's not the bloody same and tastes like vomit.

Love Rum Raisin Ice Cream, it's pretty much the only ice cream I like.

Thornton used to have ice cream in their shops, but they closed the shops and their chocolates are not nice anymore so I haven't had it for years.

FriedFishAndBread · 10/12/2014 21:37

Iceland sell rum and raise Smile

Aeroflotgirl · 10/12/2014 22:18

Carte Dor do rum and raisin ice cream

Aeroflotgirl · 10/12/2014 22:19

I miss Gino Ginelli Tutti fruity I ice cream.

Oldraver · 10/12/2014 22:21

I had some in Whitby in the summer in a little shop just before all the steps up to the Abbey

sockmatcher · 10/12/2014 22:44

Oddly been craving the same and just brought and ate some carte d'or. Disappointingly not how I remembered it:-(

alseb · 10/12/2014 23:11

I used to love having rum and raisin chocolate at my nanna's house when I was a girl. Was it called Jamaica Inn? All of us in a tiny living room watching the generation game. Oh how I miss those days.

Purplecircle · 10/12/2014 23:13

I love rum and raisin. Carte d'or is fine. Yorkshire Dales do a nice one

MrsCakesPrecognition · 10/12/2014 23:15

Some places have refused to sell me rum and raisin ice cream in case I feed it to my KS2 aged DD. Not sure whether to be cross about being mollycoddled or happy at the sheer volume of rum they must be squeezing into those raisins.

alseb · 10/12/2014 23:26

I plan to make christmas pudding ice cream this weekend. our local parlour sells it and it is divine. Has anyone else made it?

JeanneDeMontbaston · 10/12/2014 23:38

I love it. It is very 70s over here - not sure why?

I'm bemused as to why it's less 'authentic' (whatever that means Grin) than anything else?

Carte D'Or is too sweet, but it's really easy to home-make because the alcohol means it won't ever set too hard.

magicstar1 · 11/12/2014 00:07

I make it for my mam and for Fil all the time

CallMeExhausted · 11/12/2014 00:45

Not sure where it has gone, but I want it back!

Boo hoo!!!!

moxon · 11/12/2014 03:30

Apparently I am just searching in the wrong places. Also, apparently I need to move to Amsterdam! Or at the very least to wales...
Who are all you people that you are making ice cream at home? I thought only Bake Off contestants did this, and that all ice cream makers languished at the back of kitchen cupboards with the triple decker steamer?

mathanxiety · 11/12/2014 03:34

My favourite flavour. I really want some now.

Though dulce de leche is also very nice.

Erzsebet · 11/12/2014 04:29

Rum and raisin yummy yum yum! The carte d'or one I'm afraid is a bit of a disappointment as are most of the frothed up mass produced ice creams but Waitrose do their own in the Hagen Das type tubs and it's quite often on special offer. Either buy two get one free or half price.
A scoop of that with a scoop of their coconutty one and I'm purring like a cat that's got the (ice)cream.

I can't btw stand anything with a 'cookie dough' or 'cake mix' in it. Don't get me wrong 'licking the bowl' is one of life's simple pleasure but freezing it and adding the congealing lumps into icecream... Why? Yuk.

GamoraStarlord · 11/12/2014 05:12

If you have a fairly large Thorntons near you they may well have a freezer out back with their tubs in.. They sell them for £20ish for 3.5l.. pop in and ask.. I love it!

murphys · 11/12/2014 05:34

Our rum and raisin ice-cream is orange these days... its not the same anymore and if you get one raisin per serving you are lucky...

SteamTrainsRealAleandOpenFires · 11/12/2014 06:12

Asleb "Jamaica Inn" was the chocolate bar.

Thumbnutstwitchingonanopenfire · 11/12/2014 06:21

It's a standard flavour over here in Australia, although I have to admit I haven't tried looking to buy it in supermarkets!

Love Rum'n'Raisin, and used to love Dayvilles ice cream too.
My favourite now though is Baskin Robbins' Love potion #31 - it's FAB.

BikeRunSki · 11/12/2014 06:38

R&R ice cream is horrid, but alive and well at the farmyard three ice cream palours near me (dairy farming countryside),

BikeRunSki · 11/12/2014 06:39

The chocolate bar was called "Dark Jamaica", my (Jamaican) dad lived off them and reminisced lot.

member · 11/12/2014 06:50

Old Jamaica was the chocolate .
