To wonder how many coats duchess of Cambridge has?

Just that really, every outfit has a whole different coat. I'm in clothes awe, mainly because I couldn't afford a maternity coat and instead sewed extra buttons onto my old one.

She must have the strangest life. To have been born into an ordinary family and now be a princess, fêted wherever she goes. I can't get my head around how that must feel.
I think she always looks really nice.

wowfudge · 09/12/2014 20:05

Yep - you're right Idontsee. I was coming back to say just that. They can't be seen to be advertising a particular designer or brand and accepting freebies would be like taking a bribe.

simbacatlivesagain · 09/12/2014 20:05

Well she must accept freebies as there was a story about some earring designer who sent earring and she wore them

I like that Mulberry coat....

Her necklace underneath looks like a cock ring though

DrSeuss · 09/12/2014 20:11

No amount of clothes, free or other wise, would make up for becoming public property 24/7.

Oakmaiden · 09/12/2014 20:16

Goodness - they list EVERYTHING! Including the postal service giving them a box of letters they had been sent, and someone giving them two child's drawings! I thought that was rather cute!

wowfudge · 09/12/2014 20:27

Hmm - quite a number of Howard and Hilda sweater gifts on there!

PoppyField · 09/12/2014 20:33

Yes wouldn't it be totes awful if they were a laughing stock worldwide?

Y'know, what would people think if they were just lording it around the globe and having people bow and scrape for no apparent reason. Thank God they're on a business trip otherwise everybody would think they were totally useless freeloaders!

FATEdestiny · 09/12/2014 20:38

So many gifts!

I wonder if they ebay them off? Something has to happen to them.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 09/12/2014 20:44

I only have 1 extremely good coat.

Kate always looks so good and well presented.

DinoSnores · 09/12/2014 20:49

"but one thing you can be sure of is that we paid for all of them!"

No, we haven't. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's public spending comes from the income of the Duchy of Cornwall. Prince William is independently wealthy as a result of the inheritance from Diana so could pay for coats himself too.

Suefla62 · 09/12/2014 21:29

Each person in the UK pays about 81p to support the whole Royal Family, money we'll spent in my opinion.

Moln · 09/12/2014 21:36

I'm not sure I agree that she dresses older than her years (what is someone her age supposed to wear though?)

She has a 'classical' style and she looks well in what she wears (I saw a picture of her in a blue dress (and coat) and it looks very sophisticated - not something I'd wear but then I'm not classical and sophisticated!!

Redcoats · 09/12/2014 21:37

I bet Pippa does well with all the excess coats her sister has.

BeeRayKay · 09/12/2014 21:43

Well I have three smart winter coats, and two every day wear, three autumn jacket s, two macs, four summer jackets and two for spring.....I'd certainly expect her to have more than that

Namechangeyetagaintohide · 09/12/2014 22:05

I thought it was normal to only have one winter coat and possibly a mac or jacket !! For non royals anyway.

ScrambledEggAndToast · 09/12/2014 22:13

That list of things they get given is fascinating Grin

Why do they get given so many cowboy hats??!!

FairPhyllis · 09/12/2014 22:16

I want to know what her wardrobe looks like and if it's a computerised system like Cher's in Clueless. Or perhaps if it is so big it has to be kept underground, and you call up coats on a conveyor belt, like the Bodleian Library.

PoppyField · 09/12/2014 22:24

Can I have back my tuppence that goes to Prince Edward?

Redcoats · 09/12/2014 22:24

Fairphyliss - I bet there is a database of some kind. What she's got, where she wore it last, that sort of thing.

Aherdofmims · 09/12/2014 22:25

Yes yabu to wonder anything about her. It only encourages them.

I like Kate. I like her coats.

Whatever else you think about her, think about this - a story was reported recently in connection with the East Anglia hospices she supports. There is a family who lost their young daughter, not many months older than George. The mother wrote to Kate about the services they got from the hospice and she got a reply. So far, so standard royal stuff right?
But at the recent BIG event this woman was attending. Kate met her in the line up. Again, so far so standard royal stuff. But then before she left, she found that woman again and hugged her, told her she was so sorry. Nobody made her do that. She chose it. I give her credit for that.

WandaFuca · 09/12/2014 23:25

I could well be a bit old-fashioned in my views. When she wears a long evening dress, with her hair up, she looks very elegant. But when she wears short dresses/coats, with her hair down, she looks like a WAG.

America doesn't have an official aristocracy, but there is a lot of "old money" on the east coast. And they seem to go mostly for elegance rather than legs.

Yes, I know that makes me sound like a bitch - but I don't think Kate has yet got a hang of this potential queeny thing.

Bodicea · 09/12/2014 23:30

I have a lot of coats ( not quite as many as her). I prob get one or two each season but they never seem to wear out so I have amassed a large collection now. I think it's worth spending a bit on as cost per wear it works out good value.

But I am mad at Kate for making reiss so expensive - used to regularly shop there but the prices have shot up due the the late factor ( quality hasn't)
