Just seen this on Twitter. I think its bloody hateful tbh.

I think it is offensive

Esmum07 · 07/12/2014 11:32

It's on the Independent website with all the various tweets etc listed against Clintons. No comment from Clinton's yet...

Itsfab · 07/12/2014 11:43

I don't shop in Clinton's so thought Bill and Hillary too and was surprised.

Link doesn't work. Has the charming "Apologies, our bad" instead. Horrible phrase.

Buttercupsanddaisys · 07/12/2014 12:59

I clicked on the link to find that it's been withdrawn. So, what was the fuss about, please?

SunnyBaudelaire · 07/12/2014 13:03

"We apologise but this card in our range has been withdrawn immediately. It is in no way reflective of our views and we apologise without reservation. We are investigating how this offensive card got through our quality control procedures, which we will review and tighten as a result of this incident. This was a mistake and we deeply regret the upset that this has clearly caused"
LOL
so could anyone describe its offensiveness please?

Card

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 07/12/2014 13:15

This link that was linked to earlier by AuntieStella in the thread has it.

SunnyBaudelaire · 07/12/2014 13:20

downright fucking offensive IMVHO

BackOnlyBriefly · 07/12/2014 14:13

I have a sense of humour and I don't mind jokes that are not PC, but that wasn't funny at all.

We have enough people even on MN who think living on a council estate means you are on benefits, lazy, dishonest and so on.

Buttercupsanddaisys · 07/12/2014 14:44

Thanks for the link everybody. The only (slight) smile I had was the Clintons apology. Loved the way 'they' tried to distance themselves from it.

KoalaDownUnder · 07/12/2014 14:56

Ugh.

The fact that it's deeply unfunny just adds insult to injury, really. Hmm

Birdsgottafly · 07/12/2014 15:08

I think given the attack on the poor, disabled and unemployed by this government, in the form of the Bedroom tax and benefit reforms, the card perpetrates the "undeserving scrounger" myth of HA etc tenants.

If people wasn't suffering the way they are, food banks, homelessness, communities being destroyed, deaths/suicides, by the cuts, then there might be some humour to be found.

As things are, it didn't have a place on the shelves of Clintons.

TheVioletTinsel · 07/12/2014 17:41

Yeah birds got it on one as to why these crappy unfunny stereotypes are pretty unpleasant

LonelyThisChristmas28 · 12/12/2014 23:56

i thought it was hilarious!!! god lighten up people

CrazyOldBagLady · 13/12/2014 00:16

I grew up on a council estate and I know you get all sorts. I wasn't offended and thought it was mildly amusing.

Neverbuyheliumbalonz · 13/12/2014 00:33

What the fuuuuuuuuuck?

Can someone explain to me how that is funny? Seriously I am normally a bit Hmm at the professionally offended, but that card is just Shock

(And for the first time in my entire Mumsnet career I think, I totally disagree with Worraliberty!)

CrazyOldBagLady · 13/12/2014 01:16

Well it's just comparing Santa's much loved and innocuous character traits with the worst type of criminal underclass, and drawing unexpected similarities. It's tongue in cheek. Don't you recognise a few of the traits on that list from any of the bad eggs you know on your council estate Neverbuy?

LonelyThisChristmas28 · 13/12/2014 12:45

Haha 'CrazyOldBagLady' I certainly do that's why i find it hilarious x

Pyjamaramadrama · 13/12/2014 12:52

The link didn't work but I found the card.

I live on a council estate (sort of), and I don't find it offensive, although I think it could be offensive in light of all the bad press council estates have been getting over the last few years.

I think it's great to be able to laugh at yourself.

What I did think is that it just isn't very funny.
