to really not like chocolate brownies ?

Every time I have sampled one I have decided it is a piece of under-baked chocolate cake. I don't see the appeal.

I have similar misgivings about carrot cake. Call me old-fashioned but I thought cakes were made from flour, fat and sugar. Not root vegetables.

I dont like jaffa cakes. I have never come across a soulmate on this matter.

professornangnang · 06/12/2014 22:16

Disagree. Love brownies.

professornangnang · 06/12/2014 22:17

redexpat I dislike jaffa cakes too.

steff13 · 06/12/2014 22:32

I think you're being terribly unreasonable; brownies and carrot cake are both amazing.

This is a strange sort of thread. Have you only recently been introducted to brownies OP?

redexpat · 07/12/2014 00:17

Yay! Im not alone Grin

Thisvehicleisreversing · 07/12/2014 00:28

Shop bought brownies are indeed shite.

The ones from the 'artisan' bakery in town are amazeballs however.

stopgap · 07/12/2014 01:23

YANBU. They are on my top ten most hated food lists, right alongside things most people seem to adore, such as coffee, doughnuts and tea. I'd much rather have a giant slab of cheese.

saintsandpoets · 07/12/2014 01:28

I have recently discovered Blondies, which are white brownies. Fucking heaven.

AlleyCat11 · 07/12/2014 01:41

I don't like Jaffa Cakes. Or anything orange flavoured. Terry's Chocolate Orange = bleurgh!
Chocolate brownies would be fairly low on my cake list, however agree that posh ones are better than shop bought, which can be bland.
Not keen on bagels, either. Hard, chewy, concentrated bread? My mother calls them stale doughnuts...

YABU. Please send all of your brownies and carrot cake (with the cream cheese icing only) to Canada and I'll make sure they don't trouble you again.

plummyjam · 07/12/2014 03:28

YANBU. They usually have too much salt in them. Caramel + salt = food of gods. Chocolate + salt = bleurgh!

vienna1981 · 07/12/2014 05:08

I agree with those who say brownies are overrated. Maybe my expectations are too high. Jaffa cakes are similarly yukky.

Mars bars. A simple pleasure but they keep shrinking.

Brownies, as a cold cake. No.
In a restaurant, warmed with some ice cream and a bit of caramel sauce - heaven.

cleanmachine · 07/12/2014 06:54

Hate Brownies, and doughnuts, cheesecake and jaffa cakes make me heave. In fact chocolate in general is not something I like. Give me a nice multi seeded piece of buttered toast and cuppa milky tea any day over any cake or biscuit.

See this is why I love northern Ireland. When I went there I discovered tray bakes - awesome

Jelliebabe2 · 07/12/2014 08:28

I hate caramel. People look at me like I have two heads!

I'm pretty sure red velvet cake is just chocolate cake dyed red and not beetroot.

mrspremise · 07/12/2014 09:04

The fact that I do not, and have never, liked chips gets me a fair few Hmm Hmm Hmm . I make amazing chocolate brownies, though... Wink

Poolomoomon · 07/12/2014 09:10

I'm not overly keen on chocolate anything other than chocolate bars iykwim. Not the biggest fan of chocolate cakes, muffins, cookies etc would ALWAYS choose a blueberry muffin if given a choice Wink. I hate chocolate ice cream and milk with a passion!

So yeah, brownies aren't the best. They're quite dry. I like a nice moist cake, carrot cake is delicious! Red velvet cake is gross. Cheesecake is by far the best, that's really the whole reason I failed at being vegan- my beloved cheesecake Grin. Blondies do sound amazing though, love white chocolate

vienna1981 · 07/12/2014 12:01

Lots of divided opinion here. I guessed this might happen on a site that is likely to be frequented by chocolate fans. On reflection I'm not really much of a dessert fan. I quite like cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. Ice cream is okay but not chocolate flavour - it tastes nothing like. Flapjacks are, however, excellent.

The Gower Cottage chocolate brownies (Qvc) are the best.

But you can't eat them cold as brownies are all just dry, mealy cake.

It says on the box to give them 15 seconds in the microwave - once you do that you are transported to chocolate heaven Grin
Soft, welcoming, delicious heaven.

ThrowAChickenInTheAir · 07/12/2014 12:08

I like Brownies but on another note I never understand the appeal of Jaffa Cakes. I'm never sure if they're stale cake or soft biscuits, either way I don't like them. And yet everyone else seems to love them Confused

Similarly muffins. Not too keen on them either. I'd rather have a proper cupcake than a muffin. I get fed up wading through them. They're hard work Grin

2kidsintow · 07/12/2014 21:48

YANBU! My sister offered to make me a birthday cake for my 40th and turned up with chocolate brownie.

I dislike chocolate brownie. Lots of people like hers, but I don't like it.
