Was this nurse right?

I am currently in hospital with my fairly sick 18 week old. While I was waiting for the doctors round the nurse with them (who has been looking after us this morning) came up to me and said in an angry way that it was professional courtesy for me to have informed her I was a nurse. I am a nurse but I specialise in dementia care and research so therefore didn't think it was relevant. AIBU to be a bit annoyed? (I presume they have a note that a parent is a nurse as my husband informed the dr last night that he is a paediatric nurse)

I'm a nurse and wouldn't broadcast it if I was in hospital as a patient.

To be honest, the only reason I can see for her being upset is that if she'd known, she might have been more careful about doing her job properly. I've come across colleagues who do everything "by the book" if they know their patient is also a nurse/doctor/social worker.

I think I would mention it, but then I am not the one in hospital with a young poorly baby.

We always have a note of it if a patient has told us they are a HCP. It does make conversation easier if we know, that is all. We do not want to be teaching our grandmother to suck eggs now, do we?

Why do you need to tell her. Your role is mum looking after sick baby. Hope your baby gets better soon. X
