Although I gave up when breastfeeding both of my children, I've somehow landed myself (again) with a full-on Diet Coke habit. I drink at least a liter each day and I'd be seriously distressed if I ran out. I'm sure I'll have at least a week's worth of headaches when I quit.

I know it costs a fortune. I know it's not good for me. But somehow it keeps creeping back in, and I honestly find it harder than I did to give up smoking.

So has anybody else kicked a diet drink habit? How did you do it, and do you actually feel better for it?

Diet coke is horribly addictive. I drink tea since kicking the habit, plus sainsbury own brand squashes which contain no aspartame.

My sister is arriving for Xmas on Saturday (our addictions are twinned ) so I have just bought 60 cans of diet coke. My relapse begins now.

I drink a 2 litre bottle a week, used to be 4 litres a week so I have cut back.

Still off it! I did have 1 bottle left over that I caned on a super premenstrual binge, but I've resisted the urge to buy any more. Now to conquer the ice cream habit. Sad

I had a diet coke habit for years. I went completely cold turkey. It was horrendous for about a week. Then it was fine and haven't touched one for around 3 years. I didn't lose any weight or feel healthier but I'm glad I did it. Drinking ice cold water helps.

Stumbled across this as just gave up Diet Coke after surgery in October. Didn't have any while home recovering, then realised I hadn't had any for three weeks and decided consciously to keep going. Had some last week and to my surprise it tasted absolutely disgusting! I will never want it again.

I've also dropped two dress sizes without really dieting and lost the chapped lips I always seemed to have.

Initialy I had given up caffeine as well, but returning to sixty hour weeks put paid to that pretty quick! Stick with it, you'll appreciate it. And so will your bank balances and waistlines!

The best thing now is not to buy it. Hard if visitors are coming but you can always buy a couple of small bottles and chuck them in the shed or garage .... Out the way for you but fetch able if guests ask.

And bloody well done to you Thanks

I went cold turkey when I realised I was addicted and having withdrawal symptoms. I now drink a lot of sparkling water. Sometimes with cordial.
