To go next door for a cuppa while the baby sleeps?

Charingcrossbun · 02/12/2014 18:57

My neighbour has invited me round for a cuppa, cake and catch up "when baby has his nap". Thing is we live in terraced houses and the baby monitor easily works between the walls but it just feels wrong and I'm not comfortable with it. If I'm being logical though I'd be closer to DS (8months) in my neighbour's kitchen than I am when I stay at my parents' house so what's the difference?
The point is fairly moot as DS never ever naps long enough for tea and cake but still - would it be unreasonable to pop next door with the monitor obv....

No . Don't do it . Eek...

Bunbaker · 02/12/2014 18:59

Why can't your neighbour come to you instead?

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 02/12/2014 18:59

Nope, I wouldnt. They could come to you or baby could nap there in the buggy.

SpringBreaker · 02/12/2014 18:59

why not ask your neighbour to come round to you with the cake and you make the tea.. its unlikely anything would happen, but its not an ideal situation and as you are not comfortable anyway, why even risk it.

ticktactoegivemeago · 02/12/2014 19:00

I wouldn't.

schokolade · 02/12/2014 19:00

I wouldn't. Might be closer direct, but not taking into account indirect route. Can neighbour come to you?

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 02/12/2014 19:01

I wouldn't.

cantpooinpeace · 02/12/2014 19:01

I wouldn't, I know the risks seem low but why would you gamble with the most important thing to you Smile

fourwoodenchairs · 02/12/2014 19:01

No.

RyanAirVeteran · 02/12/2014 19:02

You can't hear a fire on a baby monitor.

RabbitSaysWoof · 02/12/2014 19:03

I personally wouldn't see the problem.

notagainffffffffs · 02/12/2014 19:03

Hell no

Rhianna1980 · 02/12/2014 19:04

No. I wouldn't do it. She can come over instead.
Anything can happen. A fire might start, even though it's highly unlikely to happen, why take the chance?

You said , you feel uncomfortable.

You answered your own question.

coniferssilhouette · 02/12/2014 19:06

I wouldn't do it. I would just ask the neighbour round to yours.

Charingcrossbun · 02/12/2014 19:06

Fire is a good pint Ryanair!
My poor neighbour is going to have to be appalled at the state of my house - we rent and she recently bought next door, and spent 8 months remodelling because it looked -exactly like our house- "ghastly"
Glad to know I'm not being all pfb :)

My friend did this and got locked out...

MrsHerculePoirot · 02/12/2014 20:19

I would, and have done this, as has my neighbour come over to me. It is only on MN that I have encountered such hysteria about it.

18yearstooold · 02/12/2014 20:22

My mum did this when I was a baby but without a monitor

And then forgot about me!

It's a good job I was a 'contented' baby!

SophieBarringtonWard · 02/12/2014 20:25

What MrsHercule said. I would. If the baby monitor works I don't see the problem with it.

Gileswithachainsaw · 02/12/2014 20:32

I would tbh. In a terrace house your further away at the bottom. of the garden than what's effectively the next room

GraysAnalogy · 02/12/2014 20:33

No I wouldn't.

rastamam · 02/12/2014 20:35

This thread has been up here before surely? Im sure Ive read this already. is it deja vu?Weird. Its clearly a no though, I wouldnt even consider it.

rastamam · 02/12/2014 20:36

I think the verdict before was that if there was a fire you wouldnt be allowed back into your house by the firemen?

avocadogreen · 02/12/2014 20:39

I think I'd just go when the baby is awake and take a few toys.
