I have seen quite a few houses decorated for Christmas now (already??) but they all seem to have loads of blue lights, their houses look like they've left the fridge door open! AIBU to think it just doesn't look festive?

arent the blue toned lights to stop junkies seeing their veins properly?
festive decor and stops people shooting up in your garden.... Hmm

My fridge light isn't blue Confused

TBH, I couldn't give a shit whether some Style Diktat states that only X colours are christmassy. My lights are purple and blue and are for me not anyone else.

Purplepixiedust · 01/12/2014 09:50

Ooh I want a fridge with blue lights :D

Purplepixiedust · 01/12/2014 09:50

Or purple...

I thought Blue and white were Chanukah lights. I know that when I lived in US, Chanukah gift wrapping paper and decorations seemed to always be in blue and silver.

Fudgeface123 · 01/12/2014 10:04

I also dislike the blue, it's just cold and not nice. I like my decorations/lights to look warm and cosy, this is why I dislike the really bright white lights. All mine are the standard more yellow lights which I think look a lot more homely :-)

SirChenjin · 01/12/2014 10:06

Hate the blue lights - they're not Christmassy at all, and they make my eyes hurt and go sort of 'funny'

HappyAgainOneDay · 01/12/2014 10:18

Well, what about the blue representing the night sky that held the Star? After the Advent there were several days so night sky and day sky (dark and light).

HateSpiders I like your post. Grin

I always like the 'traditional' Christmas colours and they seemed to be all of them - but not 'in your face'.

If you watch 'Box of Delights', the BBC series, the Christmas tree had all colours on it but not over-festooned and the paper decorations from the ceiling were charming.

Does anybody know the colours I mean - pink and blue weren't like the alost neon pinks and blues you buy now, and these were baubles and flower-petal fairylight things?

SirChenjin · 01/12/2014 10:31

I know the colours you mean - the soft blues/pinks/greens/yellows on the flower petal lights we had when I was little were lovely. I'm sure Amazon were doing them - search for retro lights, maybe?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 01/12/2014 10:35

Yes, thanks SirChenjin! I will wander over to Amazon and wallow in nostalgia for a bit.

ScrambledSmegs · 01/12/2014 10:37

We used to have these on our tree when I was little - Fairy lights

I loved them. Quite tempted now, actually, they looked so much prettier than the new led style ones. Although the bulbs were a bugger for burning out and then you had to test ever single socket to see which one had gone.

bouncinbean · 01/12/2014 11:04

Our house has warm yellowy lights (our very old lights we've had for donkeys years) in the hallway, multi-coloured extravaganza in the living room and icy white lights in the kitchen. So I like everything except blue!!!!
Outside is a yellowy rope light in the gable and led's under the eaves but they are the 'warm' version and I love them.
To be honest although I don't like blue - I'm such a sucker for Christmas lights that I'd prefer blue rather than nothing at all!!!
Trends change - I predict more purples and pinks in coming years to get people buying new stuff every year...

SirChenjin · 01/12/2014 11:08

Same here Scrambled - loved sitting in the dark looking at the tree all lit up with these little flower lights Smile. LED ones are too harsh.
