To ask if you like these shoes?

A first world problem, I know. I bought these shoes on a whim, but now I'm not sure. When I tried them on at home, DH's eyebrows simultaneously hit the ceiling. Now he's being over complimentary about them, which means he hates them. Are they actually horrible? I'm not sure...

they're fascinating in that they're so hideous

they'd probably be "okay" if they had the tassels cut off.

but for 50 odd quid, return them, and get yourself something much better for half the price probably!

1981 · 30/11/2014 11:04

oh god look at the black ones. they're shiny too!!

Romann · 30/11/2014 11:12

If my dh obviously hated a pair of shoes I'd probably return them just because I would almost certainly end up wearing them less and they would always annoy me. You don't really want to be feeling you're standing up for your rights every single time you get dressed.

DarkHeart · 30/11/2014 11:14

Sorry they are horrible

fatlazymummy · 30/11/2014 12:50

Someone mentioned the 70's - I can remember a friend wearing something similar then. She had a weird fashion sense though, even for the 70's.
Nah,sorry op. They're just wrong. Oh so wrong.

BolshierAyraStark · 30/11/2014 12:55

My nan would probably like them, I think they're awful-sorry.

Riverland · 30/11/2014 12:58

Very 70's! I like them.

Libitina · 30/11/2014 13:00

Very 70's. No, I don't like them OP. Sorry.

ClawHandsIfYouBelieveInFreaks · 30/11/2014 13:06

Wear them with stripey tights and a midi skirt! Add a polo neck and big hair and you're gorgeous!

Riverland · 30/11/2014 13:07

Claw utterly nailed it! Smile

WhereYouLeftIt · 30/11/2014 13:12

Umm - they look very much like shoes I used to wear to school in the seventies Blush.

Claw is very close - the tights were American Tan rather than stripy. although the over-the-knee socks were cream/orange/brown stripes Grin

JamTarte · 30/11/2014 13:21

I like them. I'd wear them with dark (thick) tights, a shortish skirt and nice thick jumper. All autumnal/berry colours.

(I do love to rock a preppy, slightly nerdy, bookish look).

I like them but think you need to be really trendy to pull them off. If your not trendy otherwise you would look nerdy and old fashioned.

Fedupmuch · 30/11/2014 13:34

I really like the black ones to the point I might buy a pair. I am very trendy though and could pull them off! ;-). I'm sure Paul Smith had a similar style recently.

addictedtobass · 30/11/2014 14:33

For me, no I think they're really tacky with the tassels. Kind of like two styles of nice shoe have merged into one odd one.

Hairtodaygonetomorrow · 30/11/2014 14:37

I agree with fedupmuch if you pull them towards trendy/secretary look, good, but they could be frumpy. I would wear them with tights and a casual type dress and a wrap, I think they'd look great for workwear- not weekends.

Even if you take them back though, Clark's shoes for women are really great for work, quite high heels but lovely and comfy, never rub, I have a patent leather black pair, a nice pair of boots (not mumsboots)- all work staples for me.

Solo · 30/11/2014 14:37

I like them. I remember that style back in the 70's. Lovely.

Solo · 30/11/2014 14:41

I reckon everyone will be wearing this style again soon, so you'll be ahead in the fashion stakes OP.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 30/11/2014 14:41

I've haven't read through the thread. I don't really like them, they look strange from the 'front' on the link that you posted. Maybe they look nicer on you?

It doesn't matter what your husband thinks about YOUR shoes. Only you and your feet matter. Do YOU like them? If not, take them back.

Hatespiders · 30/11/2014 14:45

Did they come with a free broomstick?

HumblePieMonster · 30/11/2014 14:59

I had them in the 70s! They were a bit clumpy but ok. The tag thing flapping about really annoyed me, but I'm Asperger.

sharon56bus · 30/11/2014 16:19

Excellent , give the impression of a grounded , and sophisticated woman ........good choice

ChickenMe · 30/11/2014 16:19

That kind of show had a revival around 1996 so since we are currently in around 1994 fashion wise you could be ahead of yourself.

Monica101 · 30/11/2014 16:25

My first thought was they are a bit witchy.

Also a bit clumpy and the heel is too high. Something like that with a lower heel would be ok.
