To think that wearing a digger jumper will not mentally scar DD?

Walking through town today with DD (16 weeks) in front carrier. She was wearing blue trousers and a jumper that used to be DS's which is blue with dark blue diggers and trucks on it.

A woman I know (friend of MIL) stopped us to say hello.
Woman - I thought you'd had a baby girl!
Me - er...yes. Still do!
Woman - but she's wearing all boys' clothes! (Shocked face)
Me - yes, they were DS's
Woman - (still looking aghast) But the poor thing! Are times so hard that you can't get her a nice dress!?
She then addressed DD along the lines of 'poor thing, mummy is making you very confused.'

What would your reply have been? I thought this was a bloody rude thing to say.

DD wears lots of boys clothes as I have a large amount of good quality, hardly worn jumpers/t shirts etc, all from next and mostly like new as I went totally overboard with pfb DS.

I didn't think that this was particularly cruel..? AIBU??

Bike: there's a lovely pink converse one on surfdome at the moment

BikeRunSki Look up blank shirts for screen printing. They'll sell all sorts of plain t-shirts, hoodies, and pants in all colors.

Like this

Or this if you're UK

They're very cheap too since they're used as supplies. :)

Oh I hate the obsession with pink. It's just a colour! It suits some people, others not.
Looking a old photos, in the 70s I was dressed in dungarees, plimsolls and sported a pudding basin haircut in most of them. Think we have gone a bit backwards now, looking at how you now get pink Lego and stuff like that.

Thank you Armani and Bulbassur. Time forces to put his money where his mouth is - will he wear a pink hoody to football??!!

My dc2 (due imminently) will be wearing hand me downs from Ds regardless of genitalia. I look forward to bringing out all these comebacks if it's a girl!

My son had a pink car seat and my daughter would rather die than wear ‘girly’ clothes so she’d have some form of stroke if she met my kids

This is from 2014. Bumped by a troll.

My son spent much of the first year of his life in pink babygrows with flowers on that we had been given for his older sister and were far too good quality to throw away just because he was a boy! Funnily enough he doesn't seem too traumatised.....

boogieboogie · 03/10/2022 14:52

I have a DS and often think if I had a Dd I would most definitely want to reuse his clothes to save some money!

Having said that.. I'm not sure I could force myself to put a digger top on, maybe something plain or whatever, but that's just me!

Good on you though for reusing!

Or puzzled look. It is nearly 2023.

Probably wife to the nutter who told my 3 year old "why have you got a pink one, you don't want pink!" when he picked up a pool noodle. I can't actually claim for gender neutral great shakes- he wanted it because it was "spider man red". I think I cheerfully said something "it's a nice colour, he's happy" and that was that.

The next week though my son was (through his choice) rocking his sister's old wonder woman one piece cozzie, so maybe I did confuse him? Who knows 🤷

It sounds like you’ve just run into my MIL. She had 3 boys and would have very much liked a girl. I had 2 boys, then recently baby DD. I have put her in mostly my boys old clothes much to my MILs dismay. She keeps buying DD ridiculous frilly dresses. I don’t know why anyone would put a baby that can’t sit up in an dress it just rides up and bunches up uncomfortably underneath her, I much prefer her in leggings and vests, so much more comfortable.
