I don't normally like long hair on boys but he has got amazing hair. It would be a crime to cut it short.

Any boy can have thick luxuriant hair at 12. Having it at 52 is the trick.

I would love to have hair like his! But how does he get on at school with it? Around here boys wouldn't be very accepting of that kind of hair style, which I know is very much their problem.

yoube when I was at school (single sex) the boys with hair like that tended to be the real hard ones you did not mess with (sorry OP if I've shattered any illusions about your DS).

He started collège (yr6-9) in September, he still occasionally gets other kids coming up asking if he's a girl or a boy, so times it's mocking, other times it's genuine curiosity, in either case he's pretty cool about it and doesn't get offended. There's one other boy in the year above him who has long hair, but he wears it tied up, so it's quite uncommon here too, I think he likes the attention being different.

His dad has light brown hair and I'm a dark blond, not sure if his will stay quite that fair.

Just shown this thread to my DD. She told me about her friend who is a lovely boy who had long hair, he had it cut for fear of ridicule!

I had talked to his mum in the midst of his decision and said his hair was glorious and they should leave it alone but he was too worried about reactions, that is sad!

Even more sad for those judged on their looks who cannot control them, like my DS with his droopy eyelid!

We seem to repel nits! Neither of us have ever had them.

As for hair products, I use whatever's going shampoo wise, but I swear by Pantene conditioner, it's the only thing that gets the knots out easily, that and a Mason Pearson brush.

Plenty of girls with long hair don't tie it up for school, don't know why people think it would be different for boys. When my son had long hair (longer than OP's son and curly) he never wore it fastened back except in science practical lessons when girls had to also.
