I'm having frozen mash for Christmas dinner and one of those Iceland ice cream bottles

I hate doing mash, unnecessary labour for something dull.

I'm also doing the Roast potatoes in the Actifry.

AND

I'm having a chocolate ice cream bottle for pudding. With Heston Ponce Pies.

I'm not remotely unreasonable.

Nothing is unreasonable if it results in chocolate ice cream with toffee bits in a novelty shape.

I tried the Kiplings Mince Pies with Brandy Butter the other day - I'm buying those mmmmm (and they are 2 for 1 in Tesco)

Cheats ice-cream bomb thing is ace. It became my staple xmas pudding for non Christmas Pudding eaters: buy a couple of cheap chocolate Swiss Rolls and a pint of good quality vanilla ice-cream. Leave the icecream out to defrost. Cut the Swiss rolls into inch thick slices and arrange against the walls of a glass Pyrex bowl as tightly as poss. Fill in any gaps with mushed up Swiss roll. Wet the Swiss rolls with a juice of your choice (or booze if it's for adults - Creme de menthe is ace!). Pour the ice-cream into the middle and put the whole thing back into the freezer to set.

When you turn it out its a swirly chocolate cake Bomb and looks ace when you slice it - people oooh and ahhh and it only took you 10 mins to make. Result!

bronya · 29/11/2014 18:19

Might have to try the ice cream bottle, seeing as it appears to be gluten-free!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 29/11/2014 18:20

Frozen mash is not minging, Waitrose's version is just potato, milk , butter and salt.

Roussette · 29/11/2014 18:24

But mash takes absolutely no time to make! Just peel, bung in pan and errrrr mash! can't imagine what frozen is like, besides which I like a mountain of mash and it would cost us a fortune!

CatLady25 · 29/11/2014 18:27

Frozen mash is fine

usualsuspect333 · 29/11/2014 18:30

I will probably buy the chilled ready made mash you just bung in the microwave. I will buy ready prepared spouts and carrots too.

No peeling, chopping or mashing involved.

GooodMythicalMorning · 29/11/2014 18:32

I want one of those bottle cakes for christmas, been looking at them for ages! I need to empty my freezer quickly so I can fit it in! (And the three other iceland puds we want)

Behoove · 29/11/2014 18:32

Yup, Actifry roasties, teeny baby carrots that don't need peeled, prepared turkey crown, stuffing, gravy and other veggies from Waitrose. M&S for whatever bombe they are doing this year and as much sparkly fizz as I can possibly soak up.

I shouldn't tell you cos you'll all buy them but in the Asda frozen aisle, they have packs of 2 prepared fondant potato which are just delicious. Bung them in the oven for 40m, no faff and delicious with the following days turkey or beef or willie winkies or whatever needs used up.

EveDallasRetd · 29/11/2014 18:33

I don't like ready prepared carrots, they always taste 'old' to me. I love Tescos carrot & swede mash though, I cant remember the last time I mashed my own (since I discovered it).

basgetti · 29/11/2014 18:34

Aldi's frozen mash is lovely. Most our Xmas dinner will be coming from their pre-prepped range, we'll have a 2 week old baby so have no intention of doing anything resembling peeling or any other effort!

Tinks42 · 29/11/2014 18:37

Fresh is best. I hate anything "freezered", yuck. Mind you, I do go for the ready prepared fresh Grin

Chandon · 29/11/2014 18:37

Wondering, could you buy two of those half bottles.

Tie them together with a ribbon

For an even more exciting pud?!

Behoove · 29/11/2014 18:38

Not ready prepared, I mean the bags of fresh Chantenay (sp) carrot babies.
Nice to just sit and crunch too when there are no crisps

RyanAirVeteran · 29/11/2014 18:43

Are you having guests ?

I ask only because we went to my SIL's for Christmas and she did frozen turkey, frozen roasties, frozen mash and frozen anything that wasn't pinned down.

Money is/was no object so it wasn't from a cost point of view.

We never went again.

Result. Grin

squoosh · 29/11/2014 18:44

Mashed potato with Christmas lunch?! NO

Chocolate ice cream champagne bottle thingy as modelled by The Orange One? Yes, it did catch my eye.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/11/2014 18:47

Dh is off out to the fish n' chip emporium

RubySparks · 29/11/2014 18:48

bronya Grin my thoughts exactly! I was wondering if it was gluten free and someone helpfully listed ingredients, result Smile

SoonToBeSix · 29/11/2014 18:49

Ryan do you think your SIL enjoying having you as guests as much as you liked going?

NanaNina · 29/11/2014 18:54

What's an actifry please.

I am in no way tempted by Iceland's bottle - yuk!

A fish n' chip emporium open on Christmas day Laura - surely not.

minkymuskyslyoldstoaty · 29/11/2014 18:55

quick can't arsed ask, just me and dd for xmas lunch. she eats bugger all.
I love parsnips, what are the best frozen ones, because i cannot be f##ked to peel anything this yr.

minkymuskyslyoldstoaty · 29/11/2014 18:55

can't BE arsed i meant. oh what the fuck, really.

BreconBeBuggered · 29/11/2014 19:01

Bugger looking at the ingredients for that ice cream bottle. If it says suitable for vegetarians on the label, we'll have it. And if it's nasty, I shall make DS2 eat every last bit of it.

Is frozen mash very different from the ready-made chilled stuff?
