To not get what the fuss is about Angelina Jolie

Apart from the fact that she sounds like those cartoon ballerinas Grin.

Never seen her in a film, 'cos the films she makes don't really appeal to me. Same with her husband, Mr Pitt I believe.

She's attractive, but in a normal sort of way.

She now says she doesn't want to be an actress anymore.

And is also sniffy about London "mansion tax", lol.

I'm just not getting the non-news about an averagely attractive actress truth be told.

I'm sure she's a fine person and good luck to her, but why she is on the news as if she was some latterday Mother Theresa, is beyond me.

OP posts:

YES! We should only have REALLY attractive women on the non -news.

What is this world coming to?

Of course she's attractive - just not to your taste. Not sure why you care.

She is very beautiful and she was fantastic in malificent

Sheitgeist · 27/11/2014 09:24

I started to feel, during Maleficent, (just for the duration of that film, mind) that I was now batting for the other side.

Average she ain't.

seasalt · 27/11/2014 09:27

Well she should share the blame with Brad Pitt for the marriage wrecking. The whole world knew he was a married man so she did too! Anyway I think JA is better off without him!

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 27/11/2014 09:31

Neither do I to be honest.

Bumbiscuits · 27/11/2014 11:22

Maleficent was excellent. This comes from someone who usually hates kids' films. YABU.

Bumbiscuits · 27/11/2014 11:23

TBF Jen's probably over it by now. I know I am Grin

SaucyJack · 27/11/2014 11:26

"Averagely attractive" and makes crap films is how I'd describe Jennifer.

Team Angelina all the way. Good-looking, talented and she has an actual personality.

TheChandler · 27/11/2014 11:26

Well, I guess OP, theres nothing to stop you from propelling your own idea of beauty and acting talent and putting yourself forward for a Holywood film role and seeing if you can match her?

IMHO Angelina Jolie is a unusually beautiful woman and talented actress.

Fallingovercliffs · 27/11/2014 11:26

She's a talented actress who is also incredibly beautiful (whether you admire her type of looks or not). She is married to a very famous film star, is the daughter of another famous actor and has quite an unusual family set up herself.
She is certainly not average!

theressomethingaboutmarie · 27/11/2014 11:30

She's stunningly beautiful, a terrific actress and a philanthropist through and through. She gives away a third of her earnings (I read that somewhere a while back), casts light on many causes, goes out to inhospitable places to raise awareness and with her husband is helping to rebuild homes ruined in Hurricane Katrina. What's not to love?

squoosh · 27/11/2014 11:33

I'm sure she does a lot of good charity work but I wouldn't say she's loveable.

squoosh · 27/11/2014 11:34

Also her acting has always been a bit one note for me.

FollowTheStarship · 27/11/2014 11:35

I have to hand to to Jolie that she is a good actor and uses her fame for some great campaigning. I loved her for standing up next to William Hague to raise awareness about sexual violence in war. That is the kind of cause that involves no vanity. She obviously feels strongly about that and other things like gay marriage. Not many Hollywood stars will stand up for those causes.

OTOH I do get irritated by everyone thinking she's the most beautiful woman on Earth – I just cannot see it! My irritation is probably certainly compounded by the fact that DP lurves her Hmm I see people like Jennifer Lawrence, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Lupita Nyong'o etc and think "now SHE's stunning!" Angelina Jolie - can't see it.

FollowTheStarship · 27/11/2014 11:37

(Though I stress that's that not her problem. It's other people trying to convince me she's Helen of Troy that bugs me)

Riverland · 27/11/2014 11:37

squoosh nailed it, there, for me.

No, I never said I assumed I knew her character?! I don't really look at Sleb pics, saw one here the other day of her in the precipitous heels and sardine holding technique. Glad to hear she also does comfy clothing. Maybe she also dresses in colour, idk, really, I'll get me coat...

squoosh · 27/11/2014 11:39

'I don't get why people watch or don't watch films based on who is in them. You watch a film for the story, writing and direction.'

Really? People watch for the story, writing and director? So whose name and photo goes on the poster? The actor's. Because they're the main draw.

There are quite a number of actors whose work I actively avoid.

DoraGora · 27/11/2014 14:09

I rather suspect that the same amount of perplexity attaches to any celebrity.

Bumbiscuits · 27/11/2014 14:10

Kevin Costner, Tom Cruise, Sandra Bollocks, Keira Knightly are four actors I avoid. There are probably many more. If Jim Carrey was starring as my DH in a film about my life, I'd probably still not watch it!

She is very beautiful - she wasn't always. she's had a lot of work done.

I think she's a perfectly ok actress. Not brilliant, not wooden.

Lottapianos · 27/11/2014 15:02

People who enjoyed her in Changeling, check out 'A Mighty Heart'. Its a film about the kidnap and execution of the journalist Daniel Pearl - she plays his wife. So definitely not a laugh a minute, but a very good film. It was a controversial choice as she plays a mixed race woman and wears dark make-up to look more like Marianne Pearl. She's really amazing in it and gives a gut-wrenching performance.

Thought she was highly over rated in 'Girl, Interrupted', as was the whole film
