Not strictly aibu but what are your favourite low calorie snacks? I have been hitting the sugar free jelly hard this summer but the cold weather is here and I am not so keen for it anymore. What helps you get through to dinner time??

microwave a cored quartered eating apple (sprinkle with nutmeg and cinnamon and stevia) for a couple of minutes, eat with dollop of 0% fage if feeling particularly indulgent. Warm and v filling snack.

TattyDevine · 26/11/2014 09:27

Soup. Chuck various chopped veg in a saucepan, cover with boiling water, and several spoons of Marigold Boullion. Simmer till soft, liquidise with a hand held mixy thingy, just keep it there on the hob and when you are hungry, heat up a mug. Very warming and filling at this time of year. Good for low carbers as well. Also slimming world, weight watchers, just about every diet would allow this.

Naicecuppatea · 26/11/2014 09:31

I don't do snacks but if I do it'll be fruit or a piece of cheese.

bodhranbae · 26/11/2014 09:36

Chewing gum - every time you feel peckish - takes the edge off. It is amazing how fast the munchies subside once you give your mouth something to do.

Otherwise -
Popcorn with salt
Ryvita with marmite - no butter.
Rice cakes - the cheese ones are very good.
If you really are gagging for crisps - Square Crisps are a good option - 95 calories a bag.
A hard boiled egg eaten with a plain Ryvita.
If you need a choccy fix Options Bournville instant hot chocolate is superb and low cal.

The winter is a bugger isn't it - I just want to immerse myself in a large lasagne followed by bread and butter pudding and custard. Grin

Nightboattocairo · 26/11/2014 11:35

You're right tatty! Except, as a LCer I'd add some vintage cheddar and a dash of double cream to it. Kept me in lunches last week, celeriac & broccoli.

avocadotoast · 26/11/2014 13:58

Gherkins as well! Sprinkled with a little bit of sea salt. So good.

MrsMarcJacobs · 26/11/2014 14:03

I find carrot and cucumber sticks in Philadelphia are a nice snack cause they are crunchy.

pinksquash13 · 26/11/2014 21:20

Thanks for all the ideas so far! I'm keen to try frozen fruit, home made spring rolls and the apple in the microwave!! Today has been a BAD day! But I am ready to start a fresh tomorrow and I've got some healthy soup and to take to work! It really is much harder to be good in the winter!

Benchmark · 26/11/2014 21:39

Dark chocolate rice crackers, space raiders (20p and less than 100 cal) and skips.

Purplepixiedust · 26/11/2014 21:39

Dark rye rivita with low fat cream cheese (low low with pepper is my fave)
Muller light or other fat free yoghurt
Alpen light bars
Mug shots
Suger free jelly
Grapes
weetabix
Low fat creme fraiche, berries and merringue
Chopped cucumber, cherry toms, few tiny bits of cheddar
Cold potatoes (sprinkled with salt and pepper)
Melon

MrsRonBurgundy · 26/11/2014 21:44

Pickled gherkins when I need something savoury. Yum. Plus nobody else in my house seems to like them so I don't have to worry about them getting demolished

needtomanup · 26/11/2014 22:24

I love carrot/cucumber sticks with chilli humus. It's fabulous.

Also like yogurt covered rice cake and Greek yogurt topped with fruit and chopped hazelnut/almonds/coconut.

RobotRuthy · 26/11/2014 22:33

Need to mark this to have a look later.

Pickled eggs is a favourite for me and no...I'm not pregnant. Smile

Mitchy1nge · 26/11/2014 22:44

the cinnamon nutmeg apple in the microwave is the perfect seasonal snack

is like an actual pudding but only around 50 calories

Twrch62 · 26/11/2014 22:49

Chocolate whey protein, frozen blueberries, couple of spoons of oats, fresh spinach all mixed with almond milk in a blender, around 300 calories, but filling and a good meal substitute.

MrsWembley · 27/11/2014 19:54

Not very helpful, Christina.Hmm

I second Tatty's suggestion of veg soup with Marigold! My soups are sooooo much nicer now. I particularly like the simplicity of browning some onions, boiling up some broccoli, adding some stock and blitzing it all up. Mmmmmm!Grin And if you roast some carrots whilst sweating down some leeks, add stock and, again, blitz, you can have an equally lovely soup!

Are you doing any particular diet it just calorie counting?

I make Chia seed pudding for a nice afternoon 'snack'. That's blueberries, raspberries, Chia seeds, acai berry powder, banana and a little honey. Blitz and then I heat it up and have it with a few extra berries. Not sure on calories but very good for you and yummy. (you need to make it the night before though)

thegreylady · 27/11/2014 23:04

A mug of Bovril with a little bag of cheddar nibbles is my favourite.

YonicScrewdriver · 27/11/2014 23:07

Quavers are only 84 calories per bag.

deste · 27/11/2014 23:23

What is this fat free Maple syrup because I buy the other kind and it's full of sugar. It kind of cancels out the natural yoghurt.

RobotRuthy · 30/11/2014 19:26

I'd like to know about the fat free maple syrup too, please.

RaisingMen · 30/11/2014 19:31

A crumpet is only 90 cals, so if I'm desperate I have that with a tiny bit of jam. A boiled egg is approx 70 cals, popcorn isn't too bad if salted. I found when I was dieting a heavier lunch and a lighter dinner worked for me - the hairy dieters cook books were a godsend x

Selinasupreme · 30/11/2014 19:34

I'm starving now Grin as long as it's not a f*cking mugshot, muller light or alpen bar! Envy (hating slimming world)
