to think that Yodel must deliver for free

because I can't believe any company would willingly entrust them with their deliveries?

It's that time of year again where I depend on internet shopping and twice in this past week I have had the unfortunate experience of getting an email from Yodel telling me that they are delivering my parcel that day.

So first things first, telling me in an email at 12.30 that day that you are delivering my parcel is not great. I could be anywhere. Secondly, there are no time indications, I check their tracking facility and it says out for delivery. Their web chat person tells me it could be anytime up til 7pm. Right.

So you race home, checking for a note to see if they've been but no, you're safe. You wait in for the rest of the day and they don't fucking bother showing up and then at about 11pm they may, if you're lucky, update the tracking to say 'delivery not attempted' and 'your parcel needs a signature' (just to make sure you waste the next day waiting for them too).

Twice in a week they have done the same thing the bastards, like I've got nothing better to do than wait in all day for them. I can't be the only person they do this to surely? So why would any company use them when they are so unreliable? They're free aren't they?

They all sound bad don't they. I usually get a woman who drives round in her car delivering, she's always here on time. I wonder who she works for? It's usually Amazon stuff.

I just had the same problem trying to send a parcel with what turned out to be Yodel (was on money-saving website). Said something like noone there to collect at 5.45 when there is always someone there (business address) til 7pm at least.

We are rural and up here, Parcelfarce never deliver. Always put it in the post. So it takes a day to get from, say, Cornwall up to Scotland, then another whole day to go the last ten miles from our nearest town!

DPD is the best where we are.

dailygrowl · 25/11/2014 13:23

It's not just Yodel. I often get delivery people from various different companies (male and female) who ring the doorbell and then immediately walk off to another house to ring all the bells, then start writing the "while you were out" cards, and hoping to hand over the parcel to the first person who comes to the door. One of them once parked in front of my home but walked off as I opened the door and didn't turn back even though I yelled loudly "I'm HERE!! Do you want to deliver that??!" When she walked back, I called out to her and insisted she walk back to get the parcel to hand it to me, as I hadn't made her wait. She did. PS I think you can leave customer feedback online to all retailers about the delivery service, or lack thereof.

Last week I was expecting a parcel - I work from home so there is ALWAYS someone in, either me or OH. I heard someone pull up on the gravel and opened the door to see a Yodel driver running back to his van with my must besigned for parcel lurking on the step.

Later, the tracking showed a signature. Definitely not mine, or OH's. I don't know whether my cat has learned how to sign as he was the only one in the garden at the time or whether we have a poltergeist who likes to sign for parcels. Especially as there was no knock or ring on the doorbell.

(Wish he would put the laundry on or vacuum instead, much more useful! )

Unless... the Yodel guy faked a signature for a quick get away Shock

Is it a requirement to work for delivery companies that you are a people fearing introvert?

gamerchick · 25/11/2014 14:18

I know OP I honestly wasn't being narky, should have stuck a smiley in... moan away Grin

SlightlyJadedJack · 25/11/2014 14:25

Sorry Gamerchick my misreading, can you tell I'm a bit agitated by this? Grin I'm getting more nervous as we creep closer to 3pm when I have to leave the house for ten minutes.

It obviously all depends on the delivery man my Yodel man always leaves parcels in the chicken shed if I am out Grin The last time he did that and pushed a note through the door to tell me, he added 'your smallest ginger pecked my boots, cheeky mare, tell her Christmas is coming'

My postman knocks, then opens the door and leaves stuff in the hallway (I work from home and am often on phone calls so do not answer the front door always).

The only problem delivery I have lately is from Viking. They are out and out liars and a disgrace to deal with.

SlightlyJadedJack · 25/11/2014 14:37

I want your Yodel man Toooldtobearsed!

Toooldtobearsed · 25/11/2014 14:45

He is about 4ft 5ins of pure lovelinessSmile

I am lucky, due to where I live probably, it must be a total PITA to have to constantly rearrange. As it needs a signature, do you not have nice neighbours, in case you are not in?

To be honest, my postman signs on my behalf. Very naughty, but we have a nod, nod, wink wink agreement about it.....

Aeroflotgirl · 25/11/2014 14:46

My Apple [sp] driver told me he had 230 parcels to deliver after my delivery. So from 3.30pm-5pm on minimum wage. That they are fined £1 on every parcel they don't deliver that day which is shocking. He was a lovely chap, but he said that the company set impossible targets. How the hell is he going to deliver 230 parcels in a couple of hours. He has to drive safely first and foremost, it's impossble. Felt really sorry for the chap!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 25/11/2014 14:51

my yodel man is great, he comes saturdays and sundays too and if i get a card he has his number on it so i can and rearrange delivery, so far this has been the same day. i buy from a cheap online site who use the post office but for some reason with them i always get an e mail saying royal mail will attempt to deliver a parcel from xxx today so i know its coming.

LisaMed · 25/11/2014 14:53

I live on the internet, if it isn't delivered we don't get it. All local delivery people know me, humour me and can find our house. We did have a blip when a stand in delivered a re-delivery and then took it away as 'we weren't in'. Hmm. I was in, father was in, windows were open in both rooms and the parcel had a 'if we are out please deliver to next door' note and next door was working outside on a car and offered to take the parcel.

Most of the time they're lovely.

LisaMed · 25/11/2014 14:55

Amazon have their moments, though. I got a phone call a few months back to say that they were sorry I wasn't in, but they had handed my parcel to my mother. I paused and then told them that my mother had died in 2003. There was another, very long pause. Then I realised that it was a parcel delivered to my friend who did have a mother handy and able to take in a parcel.

I was quite relieved.

SlightlyJadedJack · 25/11/2014 15:22

OK so back from school run and no sign of Yodel or the red card of doom BUT Hermes collected their parcel. Luckily I had let them know it would be hiding in the garden if I was out. So one down one to go!

230 parcels in 1.5hours? Unless that's everyone on the same street that's never going to happen!! Shock

Clutterbugsmum · 25/11/2014 15:43

The only courier company I have issues with is parcel force, but that because they always come about 9am when I'm doing the school run. But most couriers come and if they don't get answer they just take my parcels to my mums around the corner.

Jewels234 · 25/11/2014 16:36

I DETEST Yodel, and agree that I actively avoid companies who use them as their delivery service.

A few months back I had a fairly expensive piece of jewelry supposedly delivered by them. It never turned up, and despite me being in the house at the time of the alleged delivery, and the driver swearing blind that he had delivered it to me, there's no way he had done. Luckily I got my money back.

ghostspirit · 25/11/2014 16:48

There have been many times i have waited in for them not to turn up. so i call the place i made the order to chase it up. they say they tried to deliver. but no card left. this happend 3 times. told argos i think it was. that their delivery drivers are lying they have not foot near my house if they had there would have been a card. i orded hand/body creams for my friend. when arrived all the box was torn and crushed :(

MargotLovedTom · 25/11/2014 16:48

Haven't had much experience of Yodel but it's MyFuckingHerpes, sorry Hermes, whom I detest. I nearly had a nervous breakdown one Christmas over a Toys R Us delivery which went beyond incompetent into the realms of a stage farce.

ghostspirit · 25/11/2014 16:51

i get mixed up with hermews and yodel... they are both shit

SlightlyJadedJack · 25/11/2014 17:08

Well they are still not here. Hands up who think they will actually show up today. I am going to email the original company now and let them know this isn't good enough.

OP posts:
Fluffyears · 25/11/2014 17:34

I've got my mum waiting for Hermes.hope they bloody turn up as it's 17.35...

SlightlyJadedJack · 25/11/2014 18:32

The lying bastards have sent me an email saying they tried to deliver but missed me! Their tracking says they left a card at 5.24. I am here right by the door all our lights are on there is NO CARD!

I am sooo cross!!! Two fucking days wasted!!!! Angry

OP posts:
wheresthelight · 25/11/2014 18:38

I used to work for the Internet side of a high street retailer and we sacked yodel for exactly this behaviour!! hermes were also on a final warning!

I cringe when I order stuff and it is being delivered by either and try to avoid yodel at all costs. our local hermes driver is rude and obnoxious. he posted a note through my door saying no one was in i my I was but he never knocked and certainly didn't use the bell. luckily he was just getting back in his car when I went out to the bin so called out to him and he swore at me for not opening the door when he was stood there. I asked him if he had knocked and he said no so I asked him how I was supposed to answer the door when he gave no indication he was there. he asked me if I wanted the f##king parcel or not. needless to say I reported him to hermes

DillydollyRIP · 25/11/2014 18:46

Cheeky bugger! Such a shame you've wasted 2 days waiting for a parcel that didn't her delivered. Awful service.

SlightlyJadedJack · 25/11/2014 18:47

I emailed the retailer earlier and now I think I'm going to tell them to cancel the order as I'm not wasting anymore days on this. I'm not that desperate for it. I am out for the next two days so not around for them to pretend to deliver.
