After what she has tweeted about David Cameron. here

Like him or loathe him to describe the way he talks about his deceased son as 'misty eyed' and used for political gain is disgusting.

The greatest loss any of us can imagine is the loss of a child. Shock horror, even politician have real feeling. It's just awful that she would say that about another parent.

I don't care what she can do with a bloody lentil. Something's are just too low.

OP posts:

I completely agree aermingers, what sort of person tweets stuff like that? I may agree with the sentiment: after all it can't be denied that DC HAS used his sons death as a way to make a point or illustrate his feelings. And is destroying this country's welfare system and NHS. But to say "misty eyed" and tweet about a child's death as a way to make a political point strikes me as nasty in the extreme. In fact, not really a political point, just a self serving political vox pop with no real analysis. Its a shame she has garnered so much attention from it and for her minging recipes

Clarabumps · 24/11/2014 12:42

She was spot on. YABU. That man would stoop as low as to use his son's memory to gain some sort of empathy from the British public. Don't let him fool you.

Marylou2 · 24/11/2014 12:45

YANBU.What she said was completely unforgivable. Ghastly woman.

fromparistoberlin73 · 24/11/2014 12:49

expatinscotland

I have seen you post so cheerily many times, and I never knew that. My heart goes out to, you, may she rest in peace. bless her x

KneeQuestion · 24/11/2014 12:49

All the 'vile woman' type comments prove what an effective method of shutting people up it is though.

Samcro · 24/11/2014 12:55

Expat
thank you for posting, I hope people will take the time to read your post.

merrymouse · 24/11/2014 12:57

I agree Kneequestion.

Again, if this was something he was saying privately or at times when you could argue that he had been 'caught out' I would have more sympathy.

However, this was front and centre at the annual Conservative Party Conference. He knew exactly what he was doing. My only slight sympathy with him is that he might have been under pressure to make more mileage out of his son than he wanted - politics is a dog eat dog world. Once he has said it though, I think it is open to public debate.

NancyRaygun · 24/11/2014 13:02

Expat so very sorry to read that - thank you for posting. Yours is a viewpoint it is important to hear. It's helpful to think about the realities of people affected by actual policy rather than bleating about words on twitter.

Clarabumps · 24/11/2014 13:04

expat I'm so sorry for your loss. I've seem you on here loads and I didn't know that about you.
Thanks

BarbarianMum · 24/11/2014 13:04

In this instance I agree with her.

Shockingundercrackers · 24/11/2014 13:13

ThanksThanksThanks. Expatinscotand.

Cameron does make political capital out of his dead child. Sounds outrageous doesn't it? That's because it is.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 24/11/2014 13:19

He does make political capital. But he is still genuinely bereaved.
I used to like Jack Monroe but it was an extremely unpleasant post. Describing what he is doing is one thing, the sneering at him as 'misty eyed' is extremely unpleasant. Just because someone is rich and, yes, doesn't get what most people with disabled children go through even though he thinks he does, doesn't make his grief for his own child any less genuine.

youareallbonkers · 24/11/2014 13:19

Haven't seen the tweet but I'm not a fan of hers. I'm still wondering how she can have been so poor. Still she has done ok for herself from it!

OfaFrenchMind · 24/11/2014 13:23

Disgusting. Lowest form of politics.
Even if you do not agree with DC's ways, you lose all high ground when you act like that. You are just a bottom feeder.

TheFairyCaravan · 24/11/2014 13:25

Jack Monroe is 100% spot on. People are frothing because the truth hurts.

I'm disabled and I voted bastarding, cunting Tory much to my shame now and I will never, ever make that mistake again. I did it because I saw David Cameron go round to Riven's and promise he'd make things better. I very naively thought that as he had experience of disabilities with Ivan and his dad, he wouldn't slash benefits and help for disabled people, I thought he might help us because he said he would. He lied. I hate him for it. He can not be debated with in "the house" over it because he shuts it straight down as he goes back to Ivan.

And OP, if my DH or my DS got killed because the MOD is underfunded, has been cut back too far and too fast, they have inadequate equipment and not enough personnel I would hate him even fucking more!

OnlyLovers · 24/11/2014 13:34

He does make political capital. But he is still genuinely bereaved

I'd turn that round. He is genuinely bereaved. But he does make political capital.

He should know better. Well, actually, I think he does know better, and still does it. Which is more reprehensible than not knowing.

expat, thank you for posting that. I can't begin to imagine the pain.

TheCraicDealer · 24/11/2014 13:45

I see what point she's making, but Twitter isn't the place for that. She has a blog with a massive readership which she could make these views on without having to be confined to 140 characters. What she posted just read like a catty remark- she could have written a blog post and linked to it on her Twitter page, expanding on her position. It was phrased very badly and insensitively and I'm not in the slightest bit surprised she's got flack for it.

Viviennemary · 24/11/2014 13:49

She shouldn't be saying this. End of story. There is simply no excuse. Horrible woman. Guardian columnist. That says it all. I expect she lives in Islington.

Neverbuyheliumbalonz · 24/11/2014 13:50

Hmmm, this is a tricky one. He DOES speak of Ivan to shit down debate - he did it when he was questioned about the whole 'disabled people shouldn't get minimum wage because they're not worth it thing' - he just said, 'I don't need to be lectured about looking after disabled people' which was a completely irrelevant thing to say as the issue wash about 'looking after' them. But he knows that even politicians aren't cunty enough to press the issue after he has mentioned his son.

I also loathe the way he makes out he knows what the average family with a several disabled child is going through day to day. He doesn't, he cant and its just so insincere. He has no idea what it must be like to worry about whether you have enough nappies for your child, or whether you can access respite care when you need it etc. he must know that everyone knows this, yet he still pretends.

Having said all of that, I still think that tweet is fairly vile. I don't know, I think it's the 'misty eyed' bit, it makes it sound like she thinks he is faking it or something, it just leaves a bad taste (pardon the pun!). Jack Monroe is on my list of 'people I dislike for no tangible reason' although I do admire her for all she jas been through as well.

She is either naive in the extreme or has some sort of plan.....Sainsburys have already tweeted to distance themselves from her comments. Her income relies very heavily on people's perceptions of her, so it was a risky move from her to tweet that.

Ultimately, Ivan should be left out of it completely.

26Point2Miles · 24/11/2014 13:51

As bit of blogging fame has gone to her head... Don't follow her but from what I've heard on MN shes a bit of a bore

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 24/11/2014 13:53

She should be saying it, because it's true. Everyone should be saying it, especially people with a platform. Cameron and the tories try to shut down debate at every possible opportunity using every tool they have to hand. People have a responsibility to speak up about this.

OnlyLovers · 24/11/2014 13:57

Ultimately, Ivan should be left out of it completely.

Yes, he should. The responsibility for bringing him into it lies squarely with Cameron and the Tories. As Rabbit says, the responsibility for calling him out on it lies with us all.

Neverbuyheliumbalonz · 24/11/2014 14:01

I just think she could have worded it much better - it just makes her seem like a bit of an arsehole.

Viviennemary · 24/11/2014 14:05

That's probably because she is. I feel like boycotting Sainsbury's till they get rid of her from their advertising.

Lovecat · 24/11/2014 14:07

She lives in Southend On Sea, VivienneMary, but don't let your kneejerk prejudices get in the way of the truth, eh?
