Booh fay sounds wrong and pretentious. It should be Buh fay.

(even if the first version is correct. it sounds wrong/stupid or stoopid

And if we're talking about scones, some say the word is Dutch, others that it comes from Gaelic sgonn (= lump or block) - which would be 'skon'.
In Scotland, scones used to be called bannocks. Scones were the triangle-shaped sections
And what the English drop-scones were - and very much still are - pancakes.
And, of course, the town is 'Skuin'.

should be 'English call'. Sorry!

I think that barth, parth etc must be a SE thing as flat a's seem to be a SW and Northern thing.

My grandma used to say Keenyah for Kenya

NoLongerJustAShopGirl · 01/12/2014 14:24

Both Keeenyah and Kenya are correct pronunciations...

the first person to speak to me at Nairobi Airport on my first trip their said "Welcome to Keenya", others call it Kenya... more so nowadays (after Jomo Kenyatta became first president) many older Kenyans will still say it Keeenyah...
