SEH23 · 17/11/2014 15:55

aaaaahhh!!! i made my annual trip into the town shopping centre for christmas shopping today with my 5 month old DD.

LIFTS!! wow i hate them more than ever. waiting alongside 4 other pushchairs and then the mom with her 3-4yr old in pushchair pushes infront of me... WHAT?!?

a) wait your fucking turn
b) do you really need a buggy for children that old?

i hate my pushchair and can't wait for my DD to start walking so i can leave it behind. absolutely acknowledge shopping centres are busy etc but this child looked miserable, had a dummy stuck in his mouth and could be on reigns? surely?

Wow OP, you seem a great parent and truly an example to the rest of us useless fuckers.

Have you thought of applying for a job as Pushchair Tsar?

The pushing in front of you YADNBU

the child 3-4 years old in a pushchair - kids get tired, kid might have problem with legs/tiredness etc... so you are being a bit unreasonable there imo.

LoisHatesChristmas · 17/11/2014 17:26

My DD looked older than her age, hated people staring at her in the buggy. You are right that she shouldn't have pushed in front though. Very rude!

RitzyTurnip · 17/11/2014 17:26

My dad still used a buggy regularly at 4 yrs old.

She's got IBS so if she was having a particularly bad day, I'd pop her in the buggy to help ease the pain she got when walking.

Maybe think about hidden disabilities before you hoik those judgy pants up...

Mrsfrumble · 17/11/2014 17:32

Can those of you who are issuing the blanket statement that children over 2 or 3 should walk, please clarify how many miles a day a child of that age should walk, and at what speed? Thanks!

Kellie1991 · 17/11/2014 17:34

And anyways if the child was older say 4 years old... They wouldnt have been in a shopping centre this morning they would have been in school or nursery unless they were slightly under the weather!

And u don't know if the mum has issues either... I have health problems and I struggle to walk some days and I would never be able to carry my large 2 year old and some days the buggy holds me up flip sake!

Hmmmwhatnow · 17/11/2014 17:36

Hmmmm knows the child has no SN but has no idea of it's actual age.

I actually just bought a double pushchair even though DD2 is coming up to 2.5 and has been running since 11 months. She still has a dummy too.

She has no SN I just CBA to chase or chivvy her on trips out.

fairnotfair · 17/11/2014 17:40

Forever The dummy confirms probable lazy parenting in this case

Are you a social anthropologist or something? Confused

AlexD72 · 17/11/2014 17:41

You say that you can't wait to get rid of your buggy! Be careful what you wish for. The transition between buggy and walking everywhere is a hard one. It's also hard to push a buggy and chase a toddler as you start to get them used to "walking" everywhere i.e not far
Please don't judge other parents. Saying "I would never...." is very easy.
She should not have pushed in...that is rude but still you don't know what her life is like.
Don't judge a person until you have walked two days and two nights in their shoes

You won't get a straight answer, because they all have cars!

YABVVVVVU

Just you wait until you try and Xmas shop in 3 years time them come back and post with how you get on .... No helping , leaving Ds with relations , babysitters , you have 4 hrs to do the whole lot and hold onto your child. Good luck

loveandsmiles · 17/11/2014 17:51

YANBU about bad manners but YABVU about judging mothers with children in pushchairs and dummies - it must be great to be a perfect mother......

I don't know what I will do with all my shopping when I don't have a buggy to hang it onGrin

formerbabe · 17/11/2014 17:53

Pushchairs are very handy to hang your shopping bags on...that is reason enough.

ghostspirit · 17/11/2014 17:53

No nned to push in pushchair or not...

3-4 year old in pushchair whats the issue, why does it matter? my child come out of push chair when she was about 3.5. because A, i wanted somewhere to hang my shopping. B, she was a pain in the butt, C, it was easyer/faster for me.

haha queetilly thats funny i know lots people like that. oh my dd/ds have not used pushchairs in month. oooo where does he/she walk down the drive hahaha. mind you i guess it can be quite a bit of walking in shopping centres.

BerniceBroadside · 17/11/2014 17:57

You are most definitely being unreasonable about buggy use.

It was a sad, sad day when dc was too big to use the buggy and I had to carry the shopping with my poor, aching arms.

The most judgey parents tend to be those who drive everywhere and like to self congratulate because little Timmy happily walks the three feet from P&C parking to the door of baby yoga. Try getting little Timmy to walk three miles in the pissing rain and see how far you get.

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/11/2014 17:59

I love that you know the child doesn't have an additional needs. How? Are you their GP? People tend not to put a sign around their children's necks. Some people are open about their children's additional needs and get judged some aren't and get judged.

BTW DD was out of a pushchair at 18 months and could walk miles at that age. I got judged for using reins. Twas ever thus.

BingBong36 · 17/11/2014 17:59

yabu

If you are that bothered why not put your child in a sling?

Mrsfrumble · 17/11/2014 18:05

Exactly QueenTilly!

I've never understood why - if I walk downtown with my children to visit the library or bank or post office, which is a 5 mile round trip, and I let my 3 YO hop in the bottom seat of the double pushchair for the last mile - this makes me lazy. And yet if I'd driven the equivalent journey (which I'm guessing most people who have a car would) and my children hadn't walked at all, this would be fine. Confused

QueenTilly · 17/11/2014 18:11

ghostspirit

Yep. Used to get "helpful" comments from the children's centre when I went along to toddler groups. Hmm I was not driving there with a two year old/three year old. It was 1.2 miles each way in a straight line if I didn't buy any shopping on the way back and just let the fairies teleport the shopping to my kitchen, instead of stopping off in Tesco and Aldi.

We won't even mention that the Stay and Play sessions tired them out and they used to conk out on the way back. I'm sure it would have been a wonderful time for me if I'd been fucking stupid enough to walk them there and then walk them back.

Purplefrogshoes · 17/11/2014 18:16

Yabu my dd was a very late walker, didn't take a step until she was 22 months, she was very tall for her age so looked older

IdaClair · 17/11/2014 18:17

My 2.2 year old hasn't used a buggy in 2.2 years.

So from my perspective your 5mo is a bit big for the buggy now.

See that? Perspective. Isn't it great?
