I got married at our village church then had our reception on the farm. I was at a wedding in summer and it was beautiful. The caterers were local, as were the band and they had a bar. Kinlochard Village Hall

Doune Castle, where parts of Outlander was filmed, followed by dinner at the Woodside Hotel in the village and a ceilidh in the village hall. We loved all of it and the guests seemed to as well.

On a clifftop in east lothian looking out across a beautiful beach to Bass rock, with a bothy as rainy day back up!

The Caves , Edinburgh. Underneath Edinburghs old town. Take a look at the website. Not open to the public , super private venue, very professional to deal with. Totally different .

Bothwell Castle, which is a really gorgeous ruined castle. It was lovely, though it poured with rain so my dress got a bit muddy

But we were the first people to marry there since registration began, so DH and I made history!

I attended a lovely Humanist wedding on Inchcombe Island in the Forth.

The guests took this lovely wee boat from South Queensferry, wedding in the old ruins on the island and then buffet and band on the boat on the way back.

Cracking wedding.

Ours was at Duck Bay Hotel on the banks of Loch Lomond.

Local National Trust property near my parents - Threave Gardens, by Castle Douglas. Would def recommend any Nat Trust property up there that do weddings. Will be there for years to come so you can go back and visit. Many have preferred suppliers and they are a charity so the v reasonable venue hire charge is more justifiable as it goes to charity. Good luck!

I had my reception here www.sherbrookecastlehotel.com, and had the ceremony at the church right across the road.

Saved a fortune in transport

Orocco Pier in South Queensferry.
Food was fantastic and they looked after so well.
Steps down from the function room on to the beach and beautiful views over the Firth of Forth. We had fireworks and everyone stood out on the balcony and watched them being fired from the beach.
We went back for dinner on our 1st anniversary and got a complimentary bottle of champagne.

cuddybridge · 17/11/2014 18:59

The chapel of the North Church of St Andrew on King St in Aberdeen, we'd booked the church, but then realised that we could only invite 6 of our guests so we moved into the chapel.
It was lovely

Many years ago I got married in Eastwood House in the outskirts of Glasgow, it's a lovely venue & you can do your own thing. Worth bearing in mind that while there are fabulous venues all over the Highlands it can make attending the wedding expensive & difficult for guests. It might be worth looking at the Directory on the Glasgow Wedding Collective site lots of ideas re venues & other wedding services

bayrans · 17/11/2014 19:53

My best friend was married at Comlongon castle. In November. It was cold but beautiful.
Very intimate and informal and the guest rooms had a huge bath!

Backinthering · 17/11/2014 19:56

Another Park Circus bride. Such a shame it's closed now.

Goalie · 17/11/2014 19:58

We had our Civil Partnership at Edinburgh Zoo - in the Mansion House. Great venue, very friendly staff and very reasonably priced!

Turquoisetamborine · 17/11/2014 20:06

I didn't get married there but I've been to two amazing Scottish weddings.

My brother's in Gretna at the Blacksmith's then they took over a hotel for 40 guests. There was a full pipe band, the lot. It was amazing.

My friend'a at Culzean Castle in Ayrshire which was a humanist ceremony overlooking the most breathtaking sea then onto the nearby Trump Turnberry resort which was absolutely amazing. The food, service, setting, everything was just amazing. When you pull up at this hotel at night and it's all lit up it's something I'll never forget.

We go every year now around Christmas to stay at the hotel.

Bambambini · 17/11/2014 20:14

My friends got married at a small castle with it's own church in the borders. It was stunning. The whole thing was hired out for the wedding party and we stayed over. It really was perfect, stunning church, reception areas. The whole party could chill out and met up for breakfast. A piper led the bride in and their was a fab ceilidh and fireworks.

JennyBlueWren · 17/11/2014 20:14

I got married in the local church that I was a member of.

But recently went to a lovely wedding at Drumtochty Castle near Auchenblae Aberdeenshire. Would definitely recommend if you can afford it.

They have a little chapel and you get the castle for the whole weekend. We don't live far away but most guests had travelled some distance, especially family, and it was great that they all got to stay together before and after. Also meant the party didn't end!

When we were looking into getting married we did consider hiring a Youth Hostel for a similar idea (I believe the one on Loch Lomond is particularly picturesque).
