To not want her to wear my jacket?

KimHollywood · 15/11/2014 14:00

Out last night with two friends, a work colleague of one of my friends happened to be in the same bar so joined us for a drink (have never met her before whether this is relevant or not)

Anyway me and one of the friends went to get another drink, it was busy so must have been waiting 10-15 minutes. Came back to the table and they were gone.

Assumed they'd gone outside, so went to join them and the work colleague was wearing my jacket and smoking. I didn't mind her wearing my jacket as it was cold, but felt she was taking the piss by smoking. Aibu?

OP posts:

Tally no it's always been like this. And unless you're new here, you should be aware that people post here for VERY minor reasons.

Why pick on OP?

BlueberryWafer · 15/11/2014 20:51

Tally you keep saying you're jealous because this is all the OP has to deal with. How the heck do you know this is all the OP has to deal with? Your posts are idiotic.

slithytove · 15/11/2014 20:53

Yanbu, I'd be fucked off at the jacket stealing let alone the pollution

TooMuchCantBreathe · 15/11/2014 20:57

Yuck, I smoke and I don't even smoke in my own coat! (Obviously I have a smoking coat but I don't wear that when I'm going out, it stinks! )

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 15/11/2014 20:59

tally victor meldrew I said spamming because you did not add anything to the thread apart from multiple 'I can't belieeeve it!'. We get it, you can't believe it.

Tallypet · 15/11/2014 21:00

This gist of the problem was this : l
i didn't mind her wearing my jacket as it was cold, but felt she was taking the piss by smoking. AibuI'm being pounced on because I think the poster is BU? and I have "issues"?

ilovesooty · 15/11/2014 21:02

So did you challenge her or not?

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 15/11/2014 21:03

No, you focused on how jealous you were of that problem. Which is quite patronising and you know it. You were laughing at 'silly OP'.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 15/11/2014 21:03

Anyway, come back OP. We've derailed Grin

fuzzpig · 15/11/2014 21:07

Bill her for the dry cleaning :o

AmIthatHot · 15/11/2014 21:09

OP I want to know what you said to her.

I would be disgusted. I don't even like sitting next to smokers, but for one to rake my coat and stink it out, god.

As for Tally, thought you were bowing out of the thread....

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 15/11/2014 21:21

Evening all
Peace and love eh

Castlemilk · 15/11/2014 21:24
Grin

I TOTALLY would have said EXACTLY that, except at the end I would have said- 'And now, it must become your shroud. Prepare to die.' and I would have whipped off my ankle boot and bludgeoned her smoky frame into a nicotine pulp.

Doilooklikeatourist · 15/11/2014 21:29

I would be very cross stamping mad if someone I didn't know took my coat , wore it and stood outside smoking in it
So YANBU

GeraldineFangedVagine · 15/11/2014 21:36

This op reminds of the time my best friends florist borrowed my gloves so he could use the urinal in the park. It wasnt so much the borrowing it was the fact he didnt even ask. Cheeky bastard.

MaryWestmacott · 15/11/2014 21:53

YANBU, but many smokers are in denial about how much they reek, so just don't get that borrowing your coat to smoke in is a horrible thing to do, most smokers don't notice that their coats stink and so don't think that by doing this she's made your coat dirty enough to need cleaning, and if dry clean only, given you an extra bill. To a non-smoker, it's like borrowing your coat so she could use it as a picnic blanket to sit on muddy grass- technically you could put it on afterwards, but really now you have to clean it.

Tally- it's broken legs vs stubbed toes, say I've stubbed my toe and you've broken your leg, a broken leg is far worse, but knowing there are people in the world with broken legs doesn't make my toe hurt any less. If I was talking to someone I knew had broken their leg, I wouldn't mention my stubbed toe, but the very fact that there exists broken legged people doesn't mean it's not acceptable to ever complain that you've stubbed your toe.

If you want to talk about your more serious problems, go start a thread to discuss your more serious problem, it's not ok to tell a stranger they aren't allowed to be annoyed by anything less.

Jolleigh · 15/11/2014 22:05

Geraldine - gloves to use a urinal?!? Confused.

Discopanda · 15/11/2014 22:20

OMG borrowing somebody's gloves to use a urinal?! That means that they touched their willie with somebody else's gloves, you should have burned them!

BlueberryWafer · 16/11/2014 07:32

Tally perhaps you should steer clear of the AIBU section while you're clearly feeling so emotionally sensitive? That wasn't a dig by the way, I've found this section too much myself at fragile moments.

ChasedByBees · 16/11/2014 09:05

Err, excuse me, what the hell do you think you're doing taking my jacket to smoke in? Do you think I want my coat to stink of fags? Get out of it right now!

Yeah..... sure you would have said this to the unknown colleague of a friend Castle

I'd have said that. With more expletives.

Bunbaker · 16/11/2014 09:12

I have stuff going on in my life as well and would be pleased if someone borrowing my jacket to smoke in was the worst thing that happened to me.

However, I am with the OP right now and would not be at all happy if someone did that to me. It is just taking the piss.

Cantbelievethisishappening · 16/11/2014 10:12

Chased
Nice.
You found very proud of the fact Hmm

RaisingMen · 16/11/2014 10:20

I'd have confronted her too! I have no problem speaking my mind, and I find it astounding that people DONT say anything when something bothers them. Maybe it's because we're British! I used to keep my mouth shut and then complain to other people about how annoyed I was, but what's the point in that?

OP, you were not unreasonable at all. Did you ask for your jacket back when you saw her in it?
