According to dh it just be me not the quilt

Separate duvets here too. DH moans about being cold all year round, so he has 10.5 duvet and adds a growing selection of fleece blankets as winter progresses! Whilst I have 4.5 all year and add a fleece blanket if it gets really cold. The bed looks a bit like something from The a Princess and the Pea when it's made tho! Grin

Gatekeeper · 14/11/2014 08:58

4.5 tog here with the window open and no heating upstairs; can't abide heated bedrooms and loads of bedclothes

Hatespiders · 14/11/2014 09:01

Husband has his own room and has a much thinner duvet (5 tog) Window open too. I've asked him repeatedly if he's sure he's warm enough, and he always is. Good circulation I reckon!

Roussette · 14/11/2014 09:03

13.5 tog, thick throw, and velvety blanket on top. Electric blanket underneath. I get cold in bed. I would be shivering with a 3.4!

Iggly · 14/11/2014 09:06

To all the people who put blankets over their duvets, this squashes the duvet and reduces it's effectiveness over time yes I put a sheet under the duvet when it was really bitter. But DH doesn't like to be too warm so it has to go on top on my side. I didn't know it squished the duvet though.

Catsmamma · 14/11/2014 09:09

just a random mention here about carbon monoxide...have you just put the heating on? Maybe a dodgy boiler??

Aside from that I'd die of the freezing with a mere 10.5 tog...I have a 13.5 on all year round, plus a throw...and only occasionally in summer do I kick it off and use only the throw! I am a right ice queen in bed! :D
And i nearly had the leccy blanket on last night, but i am saving that for an really cold day.

canweseethebunnies · 14/11/2014 09:16

When I was on my own I had a 13 tog and when it was really cold , a quilt on top of that. Now, with my dp, we have a 10.5 tog and it's too hot! Wake up sweating every night. No heating on. We need to buy a thinner duvet, but dp wants feather and we can't afford one at the moment.

Amazing the difference an extra body in the bed makes!

britnay · 14/11/2014 09:25

We use a wool duvet as it self regulates, so its cool in summer and warm in winter :)

Fluffy40 · 14/11/2014 09:28

A light duvet, and a heavy fleece on top, always nice and toasty.

Piffpaffpoff · 14/11/2014 09:31

I can't sleep if my duvet is too thick. We're just switched from 1.5 to 4.5 but we've got a Superking on a double bed and we've found we need a much lower tog because the duvet is so huge and there's so much of it we're both kind of rolled up in it, individually. It's great! We also have a sheet under the duvet.

hiccupgirl · 14/11/2014 09:31

9 tog feather duvet here with a memory foam topper on the bed and it snuggly. The heating is never on overnight unless it's well below freezing outside and the window is always open a little bit. DH gets colder than me but he just buries himself under the duvet whereas I have my feet out.

If you know that duvet is too warm for you then get 2 singles. I would be alright under a 10.5 but only with the window open and a leg out.

PrincessTheresaofLiechtenstein · 14/11/2014 09:37

Separate duvets - so much better. I think both ours are summer weight and that is ok for me most of the year - DP often has extra blanket. And I never "make" the bed anyway as prefer to pull duvets back and have everything get some air to it during the day.

musicalendorphins2 · 14/11/2014 09:40

We have had separate top covers for years, as dh likes to cocoon in his sheet. It looks ok made up, we use different colours but they all cordinate. Comfy and inviting I think.

musicalendorphins2 · 14/11/2014 09:41

Last Ikea book I looked at was doing it I think? Lot's of co sleepers must too?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 14/11/2014 09:47

We only use the 10 tog one in the depths of winter, 4.5 tog most of the time here. No heating on overnight either (unless it is below about -10 outside, which is v.rare). If the winter is mild we don't use the 10 tog one at all. Leg out also works for me.

IckleBones · 14/11/2014 10:00

Im warm at night with a 10.5 tog but my dp is cold already with it and he wants to by another duvet.
I might stealth get him to try a blanket underneath and see is that warms him up.

TSSDNCOP · 14/11/2014 10:08

I sleep under a 10 tog. The thing I found that made me hot and sick was the mattress protector. I inadvertantly bought one with a nylon back, that was horrible to sleep on.

Callaird · 14/11/2014 10:12

I have a 3.5 tog on my bed, I sleep in my pants with both adjacent windows wide open. I would cook in a 10.5!

TallulahTwinkletoes · 14/11/2014 11:09

Regarding separate duvets, we have king size bed and I think two king size duvts. When we make the bed it put one on top of other.

Sometimes he sleeps on top of mine and I have both over me Grin

addictedtosugar · 14/11/2014 16:24

We've just moved to a 10.5 tog. Before that we had the 4.5, and over the summer DH slept under that, while I had a sheet.
The heating is off from about 7 til 5.30 overnight absolute max atm.
I think its too hot. DH is about right.
When we first got together before I reacclimatised him he had a 10.5 tog single duvet on top of whatever I was sleeping under....

But yes, I would think if your too hot it would be hard to sleep, and if you are sleeping badly, you could be feeling rough.

TimetohittheroadJack · 14/11/2014 17:47

I must live in a parallel, colder universe. I currently have a 13.5 tog duvet, an electric blanket and a spare duvet I pull on if I'm cold!!!

I don't have a partner though (unless you count middle of night dd visits), but I would freeze with anything less !

manchestermummy · 14/11/2014 17:49

13 tog goose down duvet all year round here. In summer dh gets a bit hot so I get the whole thing to myself.

House gets quite chilly at night.

shadowfax07 · 14/11/2014 18:01

I'm still sleeping under a sheet and a bed spread, I'm nowhere near cold enough to put the duvet on yet. The heating goes off at 22:30, but we have a ridiculously warm mattress and the OH reckons I turn into a radiator when I sleep.Confused

SpringBreaker · 14/11/2014 18:23

we have duvet wars in this house.. he likes something paper thin all year round and I need extra warmth all year round.. I am currently toying with the idea of buying one of those half and half duvets :)

TallulahTwinkletoes · 14/11/2014 18:36

I feel crazy saying this considering the amount that have mentioned it but surely if it's not warm enough for a thicker duvet, it's not cold enough for the heating on?
