Romeo Beckham gets £45 grand for a days work.

How much does this family need. Burberry have paid 12 year old Romeo £45.000 for one days work modeling. I don't wear Burberry myself but if I did that would probably put me off ever buying it again. How far will this family go for publicity and money. Small change to them though. But isn't there something wrong when a 12 year old gets in one day what it might take most of us a year or two to earn?

Aside from anything else.... I'd be very surprised if that was only one day's work.

Jealousy is such an ugly trait.

lottie I draw the moral line at ridiculous. You know and I know that £5k on a car that you will have for years is not ridiculous. £45k for 8 hours work is absurd. And yes I do have treats and I shouldnt give all my money away but what I should do once I am comfortable is give back. And by comfortable I mean not worried about every penny. When you are out of poverty you should recognise your good fortune and use the fact that you can sleep at night to help others. There's no point all of us being rock bottom poor with damp on the walls.

TranmereRover · 13/11/2014 10:32

given the "money can't buy" editorial coverage that those images have generated because he's a Beckham, I'd say that fee was actually pretty light.
Cara etc will have earned more than that number with a zero on the end for their Mulberry / Burberry collaborations. And it's worth it to the brand... those £900 raincoats are 90% advertising and marketing expense

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 13/11/2014 10:34

I always think it looks a bit rude when I misspell someone's user name though. As if I couldn't be arsed to copy it properly when I'm looking right at it! But my iPad has NO MANNERS.

TranmereRover · 13/11/2014 10:46

sunshine you're looking at it all wrong to call it payment for 8 hours' work. It's payment for use of his name and image for a fixed period, likely to be around a year. HOw long it took to shoot isn't what they're paying for, and the very fact it's his name / image makes it much more expensive but much better value than other, better looking but anonymous kids with parents who have ordinary jobs. Same for any job Cara Delevigne / Kate Moss gets rather than other prettier models.

Pollyteacakes · 13/11/2014 10:51

Quite a few on here have completely got my point about the Beckhams and not made the usual but predictable jealousy comments or the equally predictable "if your child got offered it you wouldn't refuse"
My whole point is mainly about the analogy of a 12 year old earning in one hour what hard working people have to work about 2 years for. It's the injustice of the whole rich poor divide, the fact that if you are born into money your life is never going to be a struggle, as in the case of Romeo, money is literally thrown at you (in his case from the age of 12) literally because of your name.
A poor child will never get that chance, if you are born poor the odds of ever becoming rich are comparatively rare. Bright intelligent children going through university will struggle when they leave to make use of their qualifications and can quite easily end up stacking shelves in a supermarket.
The Beckhams are just an example of the inequalities between the rich and the poor, I don't think they are particularly good role models either, I'd rather kids grow up to be unconcerned about designer clothes and want to achieve something worthwhile with their lives.
It's life's injustices that prompted my post but certainly not through jealousy.

You are very naive. Or closed minded. One of the two.

I'd rather kids grow up to be unconcerned about designer clothes and want to achieve something worthwhile with their lives.

So you wont be encouraging your children to go to university and aim to earn well in their careers? You'll be happier if they commit to a life of volunteer work, never moving out of home and never buying anything nice for themselves?

pictish · 13/11/2014 11:07

Remember the thrones they sat on at their wedding? Thrones!

Catsarebastards · 13/11/2014 11:11

David Beckham was playing football from he was a tot. IIRC he was signed to a team (not sure if man u) well before he was 12. Hardly surprising that his children are being supported in what they want to do when he/she have the means to support it.

Beyonce was singing before she was 10.

We dont see the same outcry against her. I wonder why.

AliceLidl · 13/11/2014 11:15

That's not how you said it in your first post though OP.

Everything until the last sentence was specifically about the Beckhams, and you didn't say you were only using them as an example or an analogy, rather than attacking them personally.

Because your first post did come across as a very personal one about the Beckhams in particular. It was all about how far they would go for publicity or money, very personal statements about them in particular rather than a general observation about the division between rich and poor.

I work part time. £45,000 is something I would earn in nine years. I'm re-training for a different career, with the hopes of changing that for myself and my family.

I agree with you that the children of wealthy or famous parents have more doors open to them right from birth, but I don't begrudge Romeo Beckham his opportunity, just because it isn't mine.

pictish · 13/11/2014 11:22

Here they are on their thrones.
How much did that lad, who let's face it, is an average looking kid, get paid for a day's work again?

Romeo Beckham gets £45 grand for a days work.
Catsarebastards · 13/11/2014 11:26

£45k but no goat. Poor kid. Sad

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 13/11/2014 11:26

I have no problems with a thread about society's inequalities. This thread isn't that, though. And the comments about people not working hard were just plain dumb.

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 13/11/2014 11:27

And people being cruel about a 12 year old's appearance should take a long hard look at themselves.

curiousgeorgie · 13/11/2014 11:30

I think the thrones were supposed to be tongue in cheek... ?

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 13/11/2014 11:32

pictish · 13/11/2014 11:33

I'm not being negative - I said he's average, which he is. He is nothing special to look at. Most people aren't.

Southeastdweller, I didn't say people here had referred to them as numpties, but it is something Ive often read and its mostly aimed at DB.

And I thought it was obvious I had respect for their business acumen.

slithytove · 13/11/2014 11:48

£45k for 8 hours work is absurd

Just for children, or everyone? Many actors get paid far more than this.

pictish · 13/11/2014 11:53

You know what I think is the most absurd thing of all? People that defend it as something that's understandable, acceptable, and even deserved.
