Romeo Beckham gets £45 grand for a days work.

How much does this family need. Burberry have paid 12 year old Romeo £45.000 for one days work modeling. I don't wear Burberry myself but if I did that would probably put me off ever buying it again. How far will this family go for publicity and money. Small change to them though. But isn't there something wrong when a 12 year old gets in one day what it might take most of us a year or two to earn?

So the poster who said "greater chunks of taxes paid into the British pot* is acceptable. My "logic" was this..... the national minimum wage in the UK is one of the lowest in Europe. This enables big companies (including Burberry)) higher profits. If wages were higher the tax would still be going into the pot, but not into the pockets of the super rich.

slithytove ....it's not a ridiculous leap. My original post is about the unfairness of a 12 year old getting paid more in one day than what most of us get in a year. The nmw is relevant to that.

Polly,life isn't fair.

As for how he got the job - I feel sorry for him, he's 12 years old and is well and truly on board now as part of brand Beckham.

And is this the lad who has also been 'signed' or something for Arsenal football academy in the same week the pics were released?

I think the Beckhams are a bit daft with every part of their life apparently being for sale but they do appear to be good parents, and for sure building up the fortune they have would have taken hard work even though its not what we may recognise as hard work. You would also have to be very smart to keep on top of all the goings on in meeting associated with fortune - I dont for a minute think V&D are the numpties people try and make them out to be.

I saw her once on Parkinson, she was bloody funny and not the dour person she tries to make out to be.

Andrewofgg · 13/11/2014 05:26

He is worth what the market will bear. End of.

Brooklyn has supposedly been offered a contract at Arsenal's academy for the U16's, not Romeo.

LePetitMarseillais · 13/11/2014 07:11

Wonder why he isn't modelling for Asda.

Mummy will have hand picked said job and frankly given the minimum wage the shop workers selling the stuff will be on I think it's extremely distasteful.Makes you realise the huge amount of unfairness in the wage system in this country. The rich just get on becoming richer- on the backs of those paid fa.

Also let's be honest, it is no diff than any other mother hawking their dc round the child modelling houses,it's for them pure and simple.

I never understand comments like this.

I've read all the usual tabloid tat about the Beckhams - but I've never read anything that makes me think they're good parents. How would you know? Other than the fact that obviously they can provide very well for their children financially, which does not automatically a good parent make IMO...

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2014 07:23

The celebrities I REALLY admire are the ones who I have no idea what their children even look like.

WalkingInMemphis · 13/11/2014 07:27

Yes - and those who, despite their jobs, seem to have 'normal' family lives and spend a lot of time with their dc.

I don't know the Beckhams that well so obviously may be wrong, but it's certainly not the impression I get from them.

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2014 07:29

They seem to get lots of time with their DC on long haul flights back and forth to the US Memphis.

ssd · 13/11/2014 07:32

Grin," yes darling we have 5 hrs quality time this week", "oh mummy are we going to new york"....fairly common conversation round here..

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2014 07:33

I am curious about their DC's routine re school, hobbies, friends etc.

BIWI · 13/11/2014 07:39

ArsenicSoup

Why twee irrelevancies about the woman? Just to be 'nice'?

Not twee, not irrelevant, and not about being 'nice'. Just pointing out that she has done a lot to commend her. But she (and her family) are being slagged off here. She, particularly for earning her money off the back of her husband.

Misogynistic as well as snide and jealous posting going on here, and hardly runs with the ethos of Mumsnet, does it? 'By parents for parents;

ssd · 13/11/2014 07:50

and yes, I'm jealous, of their money, nothing else, my kids are living normal lives and go about as they please, not with security and camera's in their faces, I wouldn't wish that for them for all the money in the world

so actually no, I'm not jealous

have I just answered myself there

ArsenicSoup · 13/11/2014 07:54

Your post exhorting us all to start randomly praising her entrepreneurial achievements was entirely twee and off-topic for the thread.

RabbitOfNegativeEuphoria · 13/11/2014 07:57

VB has not got where she is now through who her husband is. She was more famous than him, and richer than him, when they met. He has got where he is endorsement wise through being married to her (his endorsements etc far outstrip any other former football player - and yes, he was good but not that good, he never won a golden boot for example). I do not worship her, I don't even like her particularly, I find the fashion industry objectionable on many levels but anyone who knows anything about business (so, clearly not you) understands that she works very hard and has achieved massively in that sphere. Is it a sphere worth achieving in (other than financially?) well - she provides jobs, so there's that. And she's an example of a successful woman, so there's that. But to say she doesn't work hard, or to say that her son doesn't deserve to be paid what his employer feels he should be paid (which will be less than they feel the value of his work has been to them) just because he is her son and not someone else's is indeed stupid.

Did you start a thread complaining about the Harry potter kids being paid? If not, why not?

Many 12 year olds are ambitious and would see this job as a step to a future career ( modelling/acting/fashion) as well as a seriously good earner.
Maybe it's nothing to do with pushy, grabby parenting, maybe both Brooklyn and Romeo are driven, hard working and want to succeed just like their parents.
If Burberry had offered my DD a role in an advert when she was 12 and I'd turned it down I can't imagine I would ever have been forgiven!

ArsenicSoup · 13/11/2014 08:08

The Beckhams have never struck me as a couple who 'sell every part of their lives' to the media.

They appear to have it under very strict control.

I don't know what their kids look like.

Oh MrsDV you must be joking, i've never read a sleb magazine in my life but there is no escaping these DC's faces. And you haven't heard of 'Brand Beckham'?

Southeastdweller · 13/11/2014 08:11

Come on caria, nobody's saying their Beckham's are numpties, on here or anywhere else. Having a consistently strong brand for over a decade is proof they're two very shrewd businesspeople. I can remember when the Rebecca Loos thing came out in 2004 - they deserved some kind of P.R award for staying strong about that (their brand, I mean - obviously I've no idea what goes on behind closed doors).

notascientist · 13/11/2014 08:15

Well, I've just re-watched the advert and it is easily the best Christmas ad we've had for a long time - The dancers, the music, the way it's shot - everything.
I could watch it over and over - and usually I hate Christmas ads.

(I love it when he kicks the snow at the end) - little nod to dad?

Sparklingbrook · 13/11/2014 08:16

Nooo. Aldi with Jools Holland is THE best Christmas ad this year. Grin I didn't think the Burberry ad was particularly Christmassy. All a bit beige.
