To not want this pile of nauseating drivel that passes for an email from Boden?

LiegeAndLief · 12/11/2014 09:19

I have just made my first Boden order and received an email acknowledging it. To quote directly:

Thanks for placing an order with us. You've made us happier than all our favourite things: tea, dogs, crumpets and bank holidays.

There is a fair amount more perky twee crap in a similar vein. A further missive suggests that if I do not dance around my living room with joy upon receiving my order, I should return it for a full refund.

I am a grown woman. I would like an email saying "Thank you for your order. Your order number is xxxx. Our returns policy is blah blah blah."

Am I being utterly curmudgeonly? Does this kind of thing actually make other people feel warm and happy and it's just me who's missing part of their soul?

I expect to be told that this is my own fault for ordering something from Boden - the only defence I can put forward is that it was a winter coat for my dc in the sale.

My best friend loves this shit. I take the piss out of her mercilessly.

AnathemaIsANiceNameForAGirl · 12/11/2014 11:45

I love Boden but hate the emails Grin

They are worth it though because they spawn threads like this on MN!

MonicaFree · 12/11/2014 11:57

Spend some time in a queue for a BT operator. You will be begging for Boden.

WallBox · 12/11/2014 12:08

My recent Debenham's email did not say Hello Beautiful. What have I done to deserve this? Do they have my photo? Who cares about 30% off if my looks are in question?

Marylou2 · 12/11/2014 12:27

I accept that I've been brainwashed by them over many years but I love all their nonsense. They even sent me some teabags in my order yesterday. Love their quick free delivery, UK based superhelpful customer service team. Go Johnnie!!!

Eastwickwitch · 12/11/2014 12:32

Monica I so agree Grin

offtoseethewizard64 · 12/11/2014 12:38

I'm afraid that I just scroll down to the important info - the delivery date - and then I hit the delete button.

The one that irritates me is when I log into a site and Google Chrome (I think) pops up in a window in the corner of my screen with "do you want us to remember this password? - Yes Nope.

Nope ffs - when was that ever gramatically correct? What is wrong with the word No?

minipie · 12/11/2014 12:47

Hopping that's hilarious

Grin at "he will send you increasingly sad emails suggesting you have ruined his life and possibly a free hat"

I am sorely tempted to try it just to see the cutesy angst ramping up.

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 12/11/2014 13:00

Ocado and RedSpottedHanky (rail booking site) do this too. I can't stand twee. I just want free or cheap stuff and very clear, accurate confirmation emails. Why is this so hard to understand?

Love this thread!

I agree that Boden is nauseatingly twee in their marketing.

I think their PR/marketing team believe that we all aspire to the Johnnie Boden lifestyle... stylish apartment in the City for City type job but otherwise spend time on the country estate for bracing walks with the terriers and lab, three or four genetically blessed children cavorting alongside, cocktails before supper, blah blah blah...

However they are awfully entertaining and have truly fantastic customer service with no quibble refunds, fast delivery and clothes which are well made and last for ages. They also act like they actually give a shit about keeping their customers [maybe too much at times!] but I think a lot of other companies could take note of this.

I think Boden are about to launch in the US and I imagine the Americans will be charmed by the idealised British jollity of the brand and also the fab customer service.

AdamLambsbreath · 12/11/2014 13:21

I stopped buying from NotOnTheHighStreet and got sadface breakup e-mails from them saying things like 'What did we do wrong?'

THIS, notonthehighstreet. THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE DOING WRONG.

Pinny22 · 12/11/2014 14:11

I got so annoyed with the Boden emails - was getting several a day! - that I complained at the same time as complaining about a parcel I never received. The customer service person kindly changed my settings and I no longer receive so many.. so thats an option?

Yonkersdoodle · 12/11/2014 14:31

Love the look of Loaf furniture although it's overpriced by about 20% but I will NEVER ORDER ANYTHING from them, thanks to their persistent 'ooh, look at our yummy Monty footstool!' type emails. It's like being stalked by a very needy marshmallow.

If I'm grown-up enough to stick £2500 for a sofa on my credit card, then I don't need to use the word scrumptious to describe a fecking chair.

Mrsstarlord · 12/11/2014 14:34

Now I want to buy something from Boden. I want to experience Norway Spruces descent into Boden addiction!

DialsMavis · 12/11/2014 14:38

I put up with the awful emails for the brilliant vouchers

murphys · 12/11/2014 15:02

We have an airline here who I think that the most amazing marketing. If you call through to book reservations instead of music you get to listen to bizarre facts, and if you book the emails are quite hilarious.

Even the planes are each painted differently.

The black box which is actually orange

nose cone

this way up

Just something different from your everyday boring communication. I quite like it.

windchime · 12/11/2014 15:52

I have always regarded the whole of the Boden empire as a complete pile of wank anyway.

poolomoomon · 12/11/2014 15:57

Definitely trying too hard. They thank you a million times for shopping with them in the emails, send a free gift with the order to say thank you AGAIN and then today I received yet another thank you in the form of a £10 off voucher. I will be using said voucher, DH needs slippers for Christmas so it's perfect Grin and I'll silently seethe at the million and one thank yous...

MadamNoo · 12/11/2014 16:02

I got one from Naked Wines saying 'you intrigue us..' and professing to be baffled as to why I haven't engaged with the community by posting my opinions everywhere... I am cancelling my account, I wanted to buy bargain wine not join a cult

SophiaPetrillo · 12/11/2014 16:04

I'd NEVER heard of Boden until I started lurking on Mumsnet. Have never logged on to their website and wouldn't recognise one of their items from a bar of soap.

elfofftheshelf · 12/11/2014 16:43

Hoppinggreen has just described more or less exactly what happened to me over the last few months. Over the last 5 years or so I must have easily ordered £hundreds per season on Boden. Through the summer / autumn I took a break from spending and on my, the emails, the discounts, the vouchers (£15, £20) and when I gave in a couple of weeks ago (and used said vouchers and codes) 2 little gifts in my parcel. You've got to hand it to Johnny and his marketing team. They get it right! I'm hooked again.

beachywaves · 12/11/2014 16:43

ScarletFever - I have visited Innocent and it is very "cool". They have astroturf instead of carpet and a ping pong table downstairs and a huge open plan kitchen where you can help yourself to smoothies and toast. My son is under the impression that everyone in London works in offices like this. It just made me very grumpy as everyone was so bloody young and positive and "up". It wasn't for me.

ChickenMe · 12/11/2014 17:29

Patronising LOB. It's insincere, fake and anyway a lot of dogs get on my nerves so it's poorly aimed.

I like a kind note if it's individual. Eg I bought a print from an artist and she wrote a note in there saying Hi I hope you like it and sent some little samples of her other prints. I thought that was sweet.
Boden are sickening. Women hop-skipping around in awful garish clothing. Boak indeed!

ChickenMe · 12/11/2014 17:30

I must add that I am quite grumpy
